What students say about Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology - [Thapar University]

Likes

  • The college also provides sports facilities and students are very happy to be here
  • Socieites and clubs are one of the best part of any college.
  • Campus life is very good, if you want to make the best out of your 4 year, Thapar is the way to go!
  • Campus life is very good, I will say it's one of the best.
  • Very good opportunities for students who need to learn Computers and want to skill in it even after being from non CS branch.
  • I Also like the hostel facilities provided by the campus these are very good and well maintained
  • TIET has very good infrastructure including lecture hall, library and synthetic track

Dislike

  • The faculty-student ratio is not good (1:100) for the CSE department, which is one of the flaws here, and many labs are taken by PhD scholars who are just awful.
  • There is no job placement and no help available, even though they have received the fees. They are least bothered, Mr. Bawa, the placement head.
  • There are various types of scholarships in our college, which enable even poor students to study here.
  • The campus is very big, but the medical facilities are very poor. No ambulance service is provided during emergencies.
  • Now, the hostels for the 1st year are the worst, whereas the hostels for the 3rd and 4th years are newly built, so they have all the amenities.
  • The only negative thing is the intake of students, which is increasing year by year and could prove to be stressful for the placement cell and staff.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements mainly from the 4th year onwards, although on-campus internship opportunities start coming from the 3rd year onwards. Some of the top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Amazon, JP Morgan, TCS, Reliance Industries, HSBC, Zomato, Wipro, Samsung, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Deloitte, Infosys, IBM, L&T, Accenture and many more. Around 1653 offers were made in 2021-22, out of which 1357 single offers and 148 multiple offers were made. The highest salary package in 202 was 39 LPA; the average salary was 7.2 LPA. The highest package offered was 43 LPA in 2019 by Microsoft. More than 79% of students with an above 6 CGPA were placed, and around 38% of students were placed with less than 6 CGPA. As a student, I plan to pursue higher study in my interest field.

Remarks:

Generally, admission to Thapar University takes place on the basis of JEE mains ranking. There are no entrance exams as such. The application form for admission can be found on the TIET website. There is an application fee charge, i.e. Rs. 1500. Application dates are generally from June to July of every year. There are reservation benefits for all sections of society, i.e. SC, ST, OBC etc. Students residing in Punjab get a lower cut-off in the admission merit list for selecting an engineering branch. In my opinion, the admission process is good and provides good chances to people who have a percentage/JEE ranking near the cut-off but couldn't make it. There are spot rounds and open counselling for further chances of getting their favourite stream/branch.

Placement Experience:

Placements are top-notch. 7th-semester students are eligible for campus placements. Amazon, Microsoft, Google and various PBCs visit for placements. Avg package is 11.92 lakhs. Around 92% of students were placed. Around 500 companies visited this year. I plan for MS after my degree.

Remarks:

Eligibility is 75% attendance in 10+2 The application form is available on www.thapar.edu Admission was based on a 10+2 PCM percentage and JEE mains score combined. I did not avail of any reservation. Cutoff for COE is usually 98% in PCM 10+2 and 96-97 percentile in JEE mains

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for placements after the 5th semester. Apple offered a 90k per month internship. Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, and Zomato offered great packages to students. The highest package was offered by De/shaw of 60lpa. More than 90% of students get placed through campus placements. Talking about my plans after my degree, I would love to pursue MBA and then maybe a job.

Remarks:

Students can get admitted on the basis of jee mains score and board result and PCM aggregate marks must be 75 or 75 or above. All admission process details will be uploaded on Thapar's site after jee mains. The only thing I want is for the admission process should be completely online to avoid visiting campus multiple times.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am doing BE in EIC (Electronics Instrumentation & Control), and the course curriculum is good as it is set according to the need of the time. I chose this course because this branch of engineering studies the measurement and control of process variables , and design and implementation of systems that incorporate them. Choosing EIC pays off well as the placement of TIET is good. The faculty: student ratio of lectures is 1:120 and for practicals 1:30. All the faculty of TIET are well qualified and studied at IITs or abroad. They mainly are doctors in their respective fields and teach in the most effective ways using projectors and different visual methods. They clear all the doubts of students and help them in every way possible. The exam papers are difficult in ESTs and easy for MSTs and always take place timely.

Remarks:

I filled out the application form as my marks in 12th boards were more than 60 which is the eligibility criteria of Thapar. Most of the information regarding the admission which is the application form release and its end date is uploaded on the main website. The application fees are also given in the brochure. I am a General Outside Punjab, so there was no reservation for me and if there is any reservation in admission, I don't have knowledge about it. I filled in my JEE marks and Boards marks and the admission was merit based on these particular marks. Boards marks were checked for eligibility and branches were allotted on the cut-offs of JEE marks.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I personally feel that TIET offers highly qualified teachers for almost all subjects and you when in class will feel the same as well, however, the problem comes when we sit in the lecture hall due to a large number of students in a class it sometimes feels that you are sitting in a coaching institute and thus lose interest in the subject despite the talent of the teacher.

Remarks:

I got admitted to TIET through my Jee Mains score, however, you can also join the institute through your Class 12 Boards Marks. According to me, this brings a diverse set of students to the university so that the students with competitive as well as holistic aptitudes can come together and have a diverse and inclusive place to discuss ideas. The improvement that I want to see in the admission process is that TIET should pick students on their merits and not award seats to students based on quota.
