Hostel Facilities:

The hostels of Thapar Institute are good enough. There are facilities like proper Wi-fi, laundry system, proper drinking water system, good furniture with proper study tables, and good bed with cushions. All hostels have small separate grounds and gardens. The quality of meals is satisfactory. Breakfast consists of Eggs, Paratha, omelettes, Milk, Bourn-Vita, Coffee, Tea, Bread-Jam, and also some other food items. Lunch and Dinner have also a separate menu, which has a decent variety of menus available. The registration process for Hostel is very simple, just go to the hostel manager and fill out all the information, pay the fees, and confirm the hostel you want to stay in. Affordability is good, the fees are about 1LPA, including the mess fees. There are many PGs available near the college, but I don't know much about them.

Campus Life:

The campus life at the Thapar Institute is adequate. There are many fests held in our college. The annual fest is SATURNALIA which is conducted in any month of the odd semester. And also many tech fests are conducted every month. All the fests including SATURNALIA are gracious. The library of Thapar is huge and beautiful, with several books and journals available in it. If not, there are facilities for e-books, which are easily accessed by the students. These facilities are good and we don't need to buy any books on our own. Classrooms are decent with proper amenities available. The lecture hall is quite big, with a good sound system with proper reverberation of sound and also 2 big projectors. There are numerous amount of sports and extracurricular activities conducted on campus. Sports facilities are good, we may get any equipment with proper grounds and courts. There are many social groups and clubs run by students depending on the field of interest. URJA is one of them.

Campus Life:

Campus life, as of now, is far away from good. Fests are treated as a formality only. Earlier it used to be good, but with the change in administration, things have not gone uphill. The library is one of the best, with a huge amount of books. Sports facilities are also quite good.

Ques. How are Thapar hostels for 1st year students?

● Top Answer By Rudra Ghose on 24 Aug 21

The hostel for the 1st year students is the most loved hostel in Thapar University because of numerous reasons. The hostel is huge and every room in the building is spacious. It has grounds huge enough to play cricket, football, or even kho-kho. The mess workers are better than every other hostel and they provide good food, although not as good as the J hostel.  It has stable and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity.  Since this will be the first hostel in your college life you will always have a special place for it in your heart. The facilities provided by the hostel are good....Read more

Ques. Thapar University(Patiala): What is so special about Hostel-J that makes it one of the top hostel complexes in India?

● Top Answer By Keshav Salwan on 10 Aug 21

My brother is a graduate of Thapar University. This answer is based on his experience at the hostel of the university. Here are some of the things that made Hostel-J special among all of the hostels of the university.  Hostel-J has a 7-storey building, which surely makes it to be among the top hostels of India. The hostel offers both Single Room and Shared Room facilities to the students. There is a group of 11 single rooms in each wing with a common hall and a common restroom. The hostel has a 24*7 running Mess facility. No other hostel at the university offers such facilities.  There is 1 LED television available for each group of 11 students.  The hostel has an awesome location -- from each one of the rooms you can have a beautiful view of the university campus, the football ground, and the greener all around the hostels. There is a Balcony for each room of the hostel. Separate sports equipment like Cricket bat and ball for each hostel wing.  A refrigerator, a water purifier, a sofa set is available in the hostel for each wing of 11 students. I don't think that any other academic hostel in India would have such a ratio. At times, you can have Domino’s Pizza at the mess of the hostel for lunch! These are a few specialties regarding Hostel-J in Thapar University. However, the experience can vary from student to student. ...Read more

Ques. What does a new student joining the hostel at Thapar University need to bring?

● Top Answer By Jiya Palit on 10 Aug 21

According to one of my friends studying at Thapar, generally, the basic items that are required to avail hostel facilities can mostly be found in the nearby departmental store in the COS Complex at Thapar University. However, it is suggested that you still bring items as listed beneath, You should bring both buckets and mugs, as per your need. Garbage Can Different sanitary products, such as Soap, Shampoo, Toothbrush, and other necessary items.  Mirror, as per your requirement. Room Freshener, if required. You should most definitely carry your laptop. A portable laptop table, since it will assist in reasonable ways. Pillow and Bed Sheets A lock paired with at least 3 equipped keys. Apart from that, you should get a mattress, shoes, and other relevant items from the nearby store, if required....Read more

Ques. How are the hostels of Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Rajeev Chopra on 10 Aug 21

Thapar University offers hostel facilities to the enrolled students which are spread over a large area of land. You can opt for two-seaters, three-seaters, and four-seaters rooms as per your requirements and budget.  The hostels are divided into several blocks. All of the blocks have been well constructed with plantations everywhere.  The hostel rooms are spacious and will not cause any sort of trouble to you during your stay there. There are a total of six hostels at the university. Each one of the hostels has high-speed internet (Wi-Fi) connectivity, geyser in every room, 24 hours power supply, Water purifiers, clean bathrooms, etc.  A Gym facility is also available for students along with several halls and courts for sports, cultural and extracurricular activities.  An in-house marketplace is also available which has a variety of shops. The students can even opt for in-house laundry services at the university.  The mess food is of good quality and is made hygienically under supervision keeping in mind the health of the students.  If you want to study, you can go to the Reading room. One of my friends is pursuing his B.Tech from Thapar University and he used to stay in one of the hostels of the university. He has had a very good time there....Read more

Ques. Thapar University(Patiala): How is the life in Hostel C?

● Top Answer By Krishna Srivastav on 09 Aug 21

I have a friend who attends Thapar and here is his insight about hostel C. Hostel C is one of the top choices for students to move into. Life here is much better in comparison to the other hostels. Here are some of the points for you to consider. Mess: The mess serves decent food. You may not like the dal and rice sometimes and the Chinese food is not that great either. But, the gulab jamun, chocolate, and custard are some of the things that are very tasty.  Bathrooms: The bathrooms are pretty clean usually except during the monsoons. You might find a few frogs in there, sometimes when it rains. Sometimes, the good showers could be occupied and there could be a tussle for the same. They have also installed new washing machines for you to do your laundry. Rooms: The rooms are designed for three people. The ceilings are high enough for summer to be bearable and there is good ventilation. Not many students install coolers during the summer unlike in other hostels. Internet: The internet speed is about 250 to 400 kbps. It is quite consistent and this should suffice for you to do most of your work. If not WiFi you can even try a LAN cable. That should help as well. Hostel C definitely offers a better experience as compared to the other hostels. You are good to go with hostel C, it has a good balance of everything and you will not face that many issues here....Read more

Ques. Which hostel should I take in Thapar University as a first year student?

● Top Answer By Singdha Roy on 11 Aug 21

Since my sister recently graduated from Thapar, I think I can answer this. Only three hostels, hostels B, C, and H are available for first-year boys. Out of these hostels, at hostel H there are some AC rooms. It depends on your JEE Mains whether you will get any of the AC rooms at hostel H. Having a good JEE mains score will be beneficial. However, since everyone prefers AC rooms nowadays, the AC rooms get allotted very fast. Hostel H is also closest to the academics block. It is pretty good. The rooms are spacious. But it lacks interaction with hostels B and C. It also does not have a badminton court or a garden area....Read more

Ques. In Thapar University, which is better, Hostel C or Hostel J?

● Top Answer By Akshay Shah on 12 Aug 21

Check the following points to understand a basic difference between both hostels: Internet facility: In terms of Wi-fi or internet connectivity, TIET - Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology or Thapar University, both C and J hostels are equal.  Food: In terms of food, Thapar University Hostel J is far better than Hostel C. Sports: In terms of sports, both Thapar University hostels C and J hostels have their own advantages. Hostel C of Thapar University has a playground, but Hostel J has a badminton court. But if you are a sports enthusiast then Hostel C of Thapar University would be better for you. Therefore, both Hostel C and J of Thapar University are good. Try to live in every hostel for different years of your student life. As each of them will give you different experiences each year....Read more
