Course Curriculum Overview:

Computer Engineering(COE), B.E., is the oldest course in Thapar, and also Thapar is a very old college. So, it has many alumni from all over India. This course has a decent average placement record, which also attracts me to choose this course. The faculty members for my course in Thapar are decent. Some of them are great, but at the same time, some of them are boring lecturers. The faculty-student ratio is quite good. For the lecture on a common subject, we have 1 lecturer per 200 students. And for lab works and tutorials class, we have 1 teacher for every 40 students. The qualification of the faculty members are impressive, they graduated from auspicious colleges in India. The teaching method of them is good enough, except for some of them(Some of them have old and boring teaching methods). We have one Mid Sem and one End sem exam in a semester, and also some projects. Those exams are of decent levels and are easy to pass with a mere amount of effort on the study.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Interest and high demand in the market are two of the major factors for choosing this course. The student-faculty ratio is quite good. In labs and tutorial classes, there is one teacher for about 25-27 students. In the lab, there are other teachers also present. The faculty is highly qualified and has great teaching experience and skills. The exams are held twice a semester and there are many sessions and evaluations timely which help one to prepare for exams by a uniform distribution of syllabus.

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Interested in Computer Software. 2. It is 1:30 which is a quite good ratio as the teacher is able to pay attention to all the students. 3. All the professors are Ph.D. and they try to improve their teaching methods by taking reviews from students. They already have nice teaching methods. 4. They happen to be 2 exams per semester and it's quite easy to pass but difficult to score well.

I guess Computer Engineering was something that excited me from the very beginning and the Faculty here too shows full support and interest in new innovative ideas of the students. Moreover, it is fully digital here so there is no need for a traditional notes system and regular evaluations to help in understanding the course well.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted to pursue Computer engineering, it is a bit different from computer science engineering since Computer engineering is a bit more inclined towards hardware but most of the things are still the same. In lectures, the ratio is 1:150-200 In labs, the ratio stands at 1:30 We have a semester of around 5 months, and two major exams each sem i.e. midsem and endsem. Before both, we have sessionals and lab evaluations probably of around 10-20 marks. They are quite easy to pass by studying just a week before exams

Course Curriculum Overview:

We have around 5-6 subjects per semester and different teachers for all subjects. All the teachers are very cooperative and give us the best guidance. We have two exams per semester. First, the mid-term generally takes place after one month of the start of the semester and then at least we have our end-semester exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose the CSE branch because the total number of subjects per semester is lesser than in the other branches you will find 6 subjects per semester whereas, in some other branches, there are 7-8 subjects per semester which makes it comparatively easy. The average package of cse branch is also more than other branches. The class size is a bit more. In one class there are around 100-150 students present which make faculty to students ratio 1:150 or 1:100 The faculty here is highly qualified. The teachers who teach us have completed their doctorate as well as post-doctorate with a good amount of experience. Mid terms start within 2 or 2.5 months after the beginning of the semester and End sems begin after 2-2.5 months after the mid sems.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Faculties are well-versed in their field but the course curriculum definitely needs improvement. As the semester passes there are more subjects with little to no relation to the course and don't provide any actual knowledge. There is a need for more industry-knowledge subjects.

Ques. How is Computer Engineering at Thapar University different from the usual CSE courses in other institutes?

● Top Answer By Ajay Taneja on 10 Aug 21

A few of my friends have pursued CSE from various universities and institutes. If looked into their experiences, I will tell you to go to Thapar University. Following are some of the reasons why Thapar is preferable for CSE: Faculty are young, motivated, and dedicated, with a high proportion of Ph.D. holders. Many faculty members hold certifications in cutting-edge computer science and engineering fields. Extensive student engagement framework based on regular interactions, annual educational tours, a feedback mechanism, and professional chapters and societies. The department has a long list of prominent visitors for research and academic research from India and outside. The department is ISO certified and NBA accredited. The department has an innovation lab with high-performance computer technology. Many sponsored research projects from the MHRD, DST, UGC, AICTE, TCS, and others are being carried out by the department. Google, Microsoft, DeShaw, Adobe, Amazon, Yahoo, Samsung, NVidia, and a long list of other dream firms are top recruiters who visit the campus every year for placement drives. As a result, Thapar is without a doubt the best option for computer engineering....Read more

Ques. Should I go for CSE or COE at Thapar Patiala?

● Top Answer By Shubh Sharma on 05 Aug 21

A few of my friends graduated from Thapar University and here’s what they have to say about it. While discussing both the branches, they consider COE to be better than CSE because of several reasons. These include: COE is the oldest branch at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. COE being a bit experienced has better placement records than CSE.  COE also has a strong alumni network. The subjects of COE are related to both software and hardware. Thus, students will learn about programming languages too. If we see CSE it is a new branch started this year only and has no placement records. Also, little or no hardware knowledge is given to CSE students as compared to COE....Read more

Ques. What is the difference between COE and CSE at Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Rachita Sengupta on 04 Jul 22

CoE stands for Computer Engineering. This course includes the study of software and hardware. While CSE stands for Computer Science and Engineering and the course work revolves around programming languages, developing software, theory, and algorithms.  If you are more interested in coding, CSE will be a better choice. The placement record of the branch is also good. The highlights of Thapar University placements show the average CTC for CSE to be around INR 13 LPA. ...Read more

Ques. Is it worthy to join computer engineering in Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Pankaj Mehra on 07 Aug 21

Yes, according to my preferences a computer science and engineering course at Thapar University is definitely worth it. One of my friends studied there, and here are some things I got to know from him. He was recruited via on-campus placement by Oracle for a prominent job role at the corporation.  The University provides you with a relaxed course scheme and many skilled and experienced faculty members.  The placement scenario at the university is also good. If you maintain a CGPA of around 7.5, there is a very high probability for you to get recruited on-campus.  Given below are some facts about the University: Categories Computer Engineering at Thapar University Course Fee 13.23 lakh Course Duration 4 years Highest CTC 23-24 LPA Average CTC 16 LPA Lowest CTC 4.5 LPA The major recruiting firms that visit the campus of the university for recruitment almost every year include IBM, Oracle, Wipro, D.E. Shaw, Microsoft, TCS, and Infosys. ...Read more

Ques. How is the new branch computer engineering with honours in machine language and data analytics at Thapar University?

● Top Answer By Aniket Saha on 12 Aug 21

My brother is currently pursuing CML at Thapar University and he highly recommends the course as you will get to learn a lot compared to the core CS. Here are some of the reasons why he chose this course. In the current industry, Data Analysis and Machine Learning have high demand. Almost every big company needs Data Scientists.  In CML, you will get an extra degree of honors in Machine Learning and Data Analysis apart from the normal BE in CS. The only startup of the first year is run by students of CML.  CML is the only branch that got a 200% increase in seats from the original plan to the second year. If you talk to the graduates from IITs who are currently working as Data scientists in the industry they will definitely recommend this course. As it offers immense opportunities. ...Read more

Ques. Which is better, a COE at Thapar or a CSE at IIIT, Una? Does IIT Una come under NIT Hamirpur?

● Top Answer By Sugandha Tiwari on 01 Apr 21

Currently, IIIT Una facilitates education through two temporary campuses of Dev Bhumy Group of Institutes, Himachal Pradesh and the NIT campus at Hamirpur, the main campus is still under construction and the placement is average.  The first batch of IIIT Una passed in 2018, with an average salary of INR 3-4 LPA and highest salary of INR 10-12 LPA. In 2020, 90% students were placed and the average salary increased to 8 LPA and the highest to 16 LPA, hence it is being assumed that these statistics will improve in the upcoming years to reach the level of performance of NIT Hamirpur.  For now, you'd like to know these - NIT Hamirpur has been ranked #98 by NIRF and Thapar ranks #29 on the same. As IIIT Una is working under the aegis of NIT Hamirpur, the institute receives the same companies for placement as does NIT Hamirpur. This year, names like Infosys, Reliance and IBM graced the campus and the highest package offered was INR 62 LPA. For COE, Thapar University students receive an average salary of INR 6-7 LPA. It is difficult to assume anything in the case of IIIT Una, it has improved from the 2018 statistics, but it cannot be said how successful it'll be in four years' time. Whereas Thapar University is developing well as far as placements are concerned, in 2020 the highest package offered to Thapar University students was INR 39 LPA and 990+ companies made offers to them....Read more
