UBC is close to my home and is in the top 3 universities in Canada overall. Additionally, I want to apply to the Dietetics program here which is offered at select institutions.
Having all my schooling in the British School System I wanted to try out the North American system. Canada seemed like a better option than the US (mainly for political reasons) and after being accepted into a few Canadian universities, I chose UBC because the city of Vancouver seemed to be the most appealing. I consider the city/town to be as important as the institute itself.
Canada was my first option and UBC is one of the best universities in Canada. They also have a very rewarding engineering program.
The co-op program is where you're able to get related work experience to your program. So when you come out of the program as a fresh undergrad, you already have contacts and work experience under your belt. Most Canadian universities have this program, which is great.
I chose this university because it has a program that I am really interested in and it is one of the best universities in Canada.
I wanted to study on the west coast of Canada because of the weather, so I focused on the University of British Columbia from the start. I love that campus is so close to Vancouver. Every city doesn't have the transit system set up with students in mind but in Vancouver, UBC is the starting point for a lot of bus lines, making it super easy to get around the city. UBC Psychology is also one of the best faculties in Canada and ranked in the top 15 worldwide, which definitely helped while making my decision.
My university is the best one in my province and was near where I reside. My mother works at this university and my sister had done her undergrad there too. Some other reasons I wanted to go to UBC were that it was absolutely beautiful, it has lots of research opportunities and volunteer places nearby (eg. a hospital), and it has a good Science program. I chose my major because I was really interested in the immune system and parthenogenesis in humans so choosing an integrated science degree where I can combine microbiology, immunology and human physiology was perfect for me.
It's one of the best research universities in Canada and has a really diverse student body. The scholarship was also an added incentive, but the beautiful campus, and the engaging community within, had appealed to me already before I found out about the scholarship.
