Musa Habib Review at The University Of British Columbia [UBC], Vancouver | Collegedunia

My Experience at UBC is Fantastic!

Having all my schooling in the British School System I wanted to try out the North American system. Canada seemed like a better option than the US (mainly for political reasons) and after being accepted into a few Canadian universities, I chose UBC because the city of Vancouver seemed to be the most appealing. I consider the city/town to be as important as the institute itself.

Course Curriculum :

The curriculum is very intense, yet enjoyable. I find the courses are well thought out and the school also provides very helpful resources to get by.

Exams :

I submitted a CV highlighting my volunteer work, involvement in various high school extracurriculars, as well as internships, and certificates. I also wrote many university-specific essay answers which each college asks for.

Internship :

Did not apply.

Fees :

UBC charges approximately 1400 CAD per credit (most courses are 3 credits however there are also 1 credit courses, such as labs, and 4 credit courses which have more content). Tuition varies for each student depending on how many credits they take each year. Students in most faculties take about 20-30 credits per year, whereas engineering students generally take 35-40 credits per year.

Faculty :

The faculty has room for improvement. Most engineering classes have 100+ students enrolled in each class so it's difficult to stand out.

Hostel :

I have lived in on-campus accommodation for 2 years. My experience has been absolutely fantastic, however, this is mostly because I was lucky to be given the opportunity to live in the newer residences. They were incredibly clean, well furnished, and well planned. Most students do not get so lucky in receiving such nice residences, however. It mostly depends on how early you apply.
