What should I do to get into FMS or XLRI?

Let’s discuss both Institutes one by one to know what’s better for you.

FMS:

Admissions:

• If you're in a general category, the cutoff required in CAT is around 98. As a result, a reasonable score should be 99 or higher to receive a call. Because the weightage is quite high, you must be as close to 100 percent.
• The extempore and PI have 15% weightage, so they can be decisive as well. Prepare thoroughly on current events and general topics, and be confident while giving your answers in PI.
• The cut-offs are much lower if you are OBC or SC/ST.

XLRI:

Admissions:

• There are no reservations, this is purely based on merit. To advance to the GDPI round, you must have a XAT score of around 95–96. The weightage varies from year to year, but it isn't as biased toward your entrance exam score as FMS is.
• For the GDPI round be confident about what you say, and accept your ignorance where it exists.

Comparison: 

• When it comes to HR, the XLRI label is highly valued, whereas FMS is the top choice for marketing. Choose according to your future plans. 
• If fees are an issue, FMS (which falls under the DU) charges way less than XLRI.
• For campus, XLRI outperforms FMS. If you want a proper lifestyle, XLRI is the way to go. When compared to XLRI, FMS's infrastructure is quite poor.
• FMS has a location advantage over XLRI because it is in a major metropolitan city whereas XLRI is in a small township.
• FMS's ROI (placement packages) is really good. Both b-schools have similar median packages, but FMS has lower fees.
• The alumni networks of XLRI and FMS are both long-standing and well-regarded.

Weigh out the pros and cons of both the institutes and choose the institute that is better suited for you.
