Based on my research and experience, I have tried my best to give a general overview of the CAT cutoff of these institutes individually. IIM Ahmedabad: The minimum CAT score required for admission in IIM Ahmedabad MBA (PGP) for 2023 Admission is the 80 percentile. However, the actual CAT Cutoff for IIM Ahmedabad usually ranges between 99-100. They shortlist the top 50/100 people from different academic fields provided they clear the basic cutoff. IIM Bangalore: The minimum cutoff for MBA Admission at IIM Bangalore is 85 percentile. However, candidates having a CAT Score of 99 percentile or more can expect a call from IIM Bangalore. They weigh in things like academic records and work-ex for giving out interview calls. So you can receive a call at a score of 95 and you can also not receive a call even at 99.99 %ile. IIM Calcutta: Candidates must have obtained at least 85 percentile in CAT overall. IIM Calcutta gives major weightage to the CAT score and gender diversity. FMS Delhi: FMS gives calls solely on the basis of CAT score and does not give any weightage to past academics at all. So the FMS CAT cutoff is as high as the 98 percentile. MDI Gurgaon: MDI Gurgaon CAT Cutoff range between 93 and 95 percentile for admission 2023.

For other categories, the percentile is slightly lower.

FMS Delhi releases a composite score and the candidates are called for the personal interview round based on the cutoff of the composite score for each reserved category. Interestingly, the composite score used for shortlisting candidates for the interview comprises only the CAT percentile and the gender diversity points. Unlike many other top B-Schools, FMS Delhi does not consider past academics and work experience for the interview shortlists, so an outstanding percentile in CAT will almost guarantee a call from FMS Delhi, the chances being even more for a female candidate.

The composite score is calculated by assigning weightages to different sections in CAT. VARC has the maximum weightage of 40% while the remaining two sections have a weightage of 30% each. Additionally female candidates are awarded extra 5 points. Usually a CAT percentile of 98.5+ overall can be considered a safe percentile to get a call from FMS Delhi. The selection of the candidates is based on the marks obtained in the CAT exam which is followed by GDPI and extempore.

How FMS Delhi Calculates Composite Score?

FMS Delhi calculates composite scores by giving different weightages to certain sections of CAT. Check below

FMS Delhi calculates composite score as

Composite Score= ?(Score in section * Weightage)/ Max Marks for the section (Round off upto 3 decimal places)

For Example consider the scorecard of the candidate who got 49.83 in Verbal, 41.47 in DILR and 34.13 in QA.

The maximum marks for each of these sections are 72, 60 and 66 respectively. So for this particular candidate the composite score will be calculated as [ (49.83*0.4) / 72 ] + [ (41.47*0.3) / 60 ] + [ (34.13*0.3) / 66 ] = 0.639319 which is 63.932 when rounded off to 3 decimal places. Had this person been a female candidate the composite score would have been 63.932 + 5 = 68.931. It is not surprising that this candidate got the interview call from FMS Delhi.

Ques. Can I get into FMS with 98 CAT Percentile?

Ans. CAT cut off for FMS Delhi Admission is mostly around 99 to 98 overall percentile for General category students and 90 and below for reserved category candidates. Students with good academic records also stand higher chances for FMS admission shortlist.

The waitlist should be moved somewhat faster as many students are looking for admission and some students have to join the course even after 2-3 months of course initiation. This leads to a gap between the studies and students have to suffer due to the same.

The FMS form was rolled out before CAT and we had a sufficient deadline to fill the form. On the basis of CAT scores, the composite score is evaluated with 40%, 30%, and 30% weightage to VARC, DILR, and QA sections respectively. The college shortlisted a certain number of students based on the composite scores and then an interview was conducted with each of the candidates. Eligibility of course: Any student with a graduation degree or in the final year of graduation is eligible for the course along with a minimum of 50% score in graduation. All details regarding the application form, fees, and dates are available on the FMS website. The interview process was extremely smooth and even the results were declared within a short span of time.
