SC

Here are some of the preparation tips that you can follow to score a perfect 100 percentile in CAT.

  • Clear your basics. You should have a good understanding of all the concepts covered in the CAT syllabus. Try to study related topics as well such as Statistics in Quants(Standard Deviation, Variance). That way you will be well-prepared.
  • Since you are targeting 100, you need to put in the extra effort. Try to get better at all the topics, you have covered. For example, when you are studying quants, try to solve a problem through different approvals and find out the best approach.
  • Mastering VARC can be difficult. So, study as much as you can. Memorize complete Norman Lewis, if possible.
  • Slove previous years' questions and make a list of the question that gives you trouble. Analyze these problems and find out why you found those questions difficult. Try to come up with an approach that takes less time.
  • Join a good mock series and take as many mocks as you can.

Once you start to score 99+ percentile regularly, in your mocks, you will get the confidence that you will be able to score a perfect 100 in CAT.

It depends on your career goals. GATE offers more options for engineering students. It is an all-around examination. You can go for MTech, PSUs, MS, and FRM. If you want more options, GATE will be better for you.

If you want to do an MBA, after graduation, CAT will be the better option. Almost all top B-Schools accept CAT scores for MBA.

Should I take the IAS exam or CAT exam and do an MBA after graduating?

It entirely depends on your career preference. If you want a corporate career and an envious lifestyle, then MBA will be better suited for you. If you want to make some real changes in society then, go for IAS. None of these career paths are easy.

If you aren’t sure, you can do an MBA and take IAS after having a few years of professional experience. The opposite is also possible.

During the time after CAT, you should do the following to convert calls from good B-Schools.

  • Prepare for GD-PI. Take part in interactive workshops and webinars. Take mock interviews.
  • Read newspapers, finance magazines, etc. to stay updated with current affairs.
  • Take other competitive exams. That way you will have backups if your CAT score isn’t good.

Also, do intensive research about the colleges that you are applying to. Talk to the current student and alumni to know about the real scenario on campus.

Which should I focus on: university exams or the CAT exam?

SG
Salini Gupta Posted On : May 7th, 2022
NITIE, PGDIM, Class of 2015-17

You should prioritize your university examination. Most of the reputed B-Schools assign a lot of weightage to past academics. So, scoring a good CGPA is crucial.

Even if you score more than 99 percentile in CAT, you will need good marks in the university examination to get admission to decent B-Schools. You can take CAT this year and get a feel. Once you graduate, you can prepare rigorously for CAT.

MICA CAT cutoff goes above 80. There is no such MICAT cutoff as of now. Getting admission to MICA depends a lot on your performance in MICAT. Here are the factors that play a crucial role in selection.

  • MICAT performance.
  • Performance in Group Excercise and Interview.
  • Your SOP.
  • Performance in CAT.

They also check whether you are flitting in with the batch and institute. For MICAT preparation, brush up on your business GK, ensure your writing is good, and present your arguments well.

What is your CAT exam preparation story including motivation, timeframe, plan, execution, etc.?

SG
Sanchari Gupta Posted On : May 7th, 2022
Post Graduate Programme in Management at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2021)

One of my friends took CAT 2019 for the first time. During his preparation period, he wasn’t able to give much time for self-preparation as most of his time was consumed by traveling to and from home to tuition. He scored only around 46.71 percentile that year and naturally didn’t get into any good B-Schools.

Next year, he started his preparation from the scratch and gave CAT again. He is a part of IIM Raipur now.

The only working mantra for scoring well in CAT is hard work and practice.

  • First, take a mock and see where are you in terms of preparation. Once you know your preparation level, strategize accordingly.
  • Clear your fundamentals. Make short notes and formulas and go through them, frequently.
  • Practice as much as you can. Dealing with difficult problems will increase your confidence.
  • Take mocks regularly and analyze them. Make a note of your common mistakes and be mindful of them.
  • Tweak your strategies according to your preparation.

Along with this read newspapers, and stay updated with the latest occurring around the world.
