One of my friends took CAT 2019 for the first time. During his preparation period, he wasn’t able to give much time for self-preparation as most of his time was consumed by traveling to and from home to tuition. He scored only around 46.71 percentile that year and naturally didn’t get into any good B-Schools.

Next year, he started his preparation from the scratch and gave CAT again. He is a part of IIM Raipur now.

The only working mantra for scoring well in CAT is hard work and practice.

  • First, take a mock and see where are you in terms of preparation. Once you know your preparation level, strategize accordingly.
  • Clear your fundamentals. Make short notes and formulas and go through them, frequently.
  • Practice as much as you can. Dealing with difficult problems will increase your confidence.
  • Take mocks regularly and analyze them. Make a note of your common mistakes and be mindful of them.
  • Tweak your strategies according to your preparation.

Along with this read newspapers, and stay updated with the latest occurring around the world.

One of my friends took the CAT exam and here’s how his overall experience was about everything centering the CAT.

  • He kept himself regularly updated with the basics and the formulas. He practiced simple questions and then moved to difficult ones.
  • The more you practice the more you will expand the range of knowing different questions.
  • Staying confident always helped him during the exam.
  • He appeared for as many mock tests as possible. With more tests you get aware of the question pattern and will be comfortable while appearing for CAT.
  • Just giving mocks will not help until you analyse your results. Devote a good amount of time for its analysis. You will get in-depth knowledge of the mistakes and areas of improvement.
  • Every person has their own approach and strengths. So focus on your strengths and strategize accordingly. There is no full proof strategy that will work for everyone.
  • He read newspapers, magazines and books regularly to enhance his language skills and also stay updated with the latest trends and events all around the world.

Always while taking mock tests try completing it in the time slot you have been allotted. This will make you comfortable when you actually take the test.
