How one should prepare for getting admission in FMS Delhi?

UR
Ushosi Roi Posted On : December 27th, 2022
Data Science Executive at Multinational Corporation (MNC) (2016–present)

FMS is a good option with the best ROI, low fees, and more seats. FMS gives a call to the candidates based on their CAT score, irrespective of their past academics score. Most IIM dropouts opt for this college.

The table below shows the criteria for admission into FMS also their respective weightage

Criteria

Weightage

CAT score

50%

Academics score

20%

SOP

10%

Personal Interview

15%

Extempore

5%

Now let’s discuss these criteria individually and also how to prepare for each of them.

CAT: The CAT score accounts for the maximum which is 50% of the marks required for admission. This means with a high percentile (99+) you can easily increase your chances of getting a call irrespective of your past academic performance. The CAT exam has three sections.

VARC (40% weightage): Reading essays and newspapers like The Hindu is a good way to enhance your verbal ability.

LRDI (30% weightage): The main key to cracking this section is to pick an easy set. This can be achieved only after constant practice. By calculating fast you can attempt more sets. If you can solve 3 sets out of 6 sets, you will touch the 99 percentile.

QUANT: Cover all the basics possible. Understand the theory and don’t just learn formulas

Academic Score: This score constitutes 20% of the total composite score required for admission. Anything above 75% in 10 and 12 will get you 20%. But above 60 and below 75 will get you 5% only.

SOP: The SOP or Statement Of Purpose clarifies your motives for your admission. It accounts for 10% of the composite score. You will have to write about your work experiences and why you are willing to pursue an MBA. Be clear in your goals and you are good to go.

Personal Interview: This constitutes 15% of the composite score. Things that you will be questioned about include your graduation subjects, current affairs, internships, and your previous courses. Answer every question confidently as this is the first interaction with your professors and the impression will last a long time.

Extempore: The weightage for this is 5%. This aims at analyzing your spontaneity, and knowledge on general topics and checks how you can organize your thoughts on the spot. Practice daily on social, and economical topics and try to know about different domains and speak on these topics for 3–4 minutes.

From the CAT center to the final round, what matters the most are your English skills. How well you comprehend in the exam, think in extempore and speak when interviewed. So enhancing your English skills will take you a long way.

How do I prepare for the IIM Indore IPM Aptitude test and personal interview? What books should I refer to prepare for IPM-AT? What is the syllabus for the Aptitude Test?

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Studied at Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (Graduated 2021)

Frankly, the preparation tips for the IIM Indore IPM Aptitude test and personal interview are best understood from a student who's been through the process recently, not a coaching instructor or institute.

The aptitude test to interview score ratio is 60:40. The study material for the course can't really help you much. Sharpen your math skills if they are lacking. It's a must because quant is a stress if your math skills aren't up to par. The computer provides you with a calculator, but it can only perform basic addition and subtraction. If you are proficient in English, verbal is simple. No point in opening the dictionary to figure out new words or trying to mug them up. Read the papers and any classic literature you can get your hands on. The rest would probably work out. The majority of the reading was at the CBSE level. Your reading speed is the only potential stumbling block. Reading newspapers will also help you if you are chosen for the interview. The term "electronic commerce" refers to the sale of electronic goods. Also, the break between the test and interview is a good time to brush up on your class 12 syllabus.

The one thing to remember is to never lie. They'll see right through you, and trouble may be on the way. Presentation is essential. Don't be scared to ask for a little time to ponder upon a question, but don't be overconfident.

The key is self-assurance. After all, the panelists and the test are only attempting to assess the breadth of your knowledge, your self-awareness, and the goals you wish to achieve. Don't compare yourself with others or think of the multitude of kids trying their luck too. You will succeed there if you are aware that IIM IPM is where your heart truly lies.

2 months of preparation is enough if you are aspiring for CLAT but you should work hard with sheer dedication.

How do I prepare for the CLAT 21 from today while studying in an NLU? What is a study plan? Im aiming for NLSIU.

SR
Sreemona Roy Posted On : October 4th, 2021
Studied at National Law School of India University,Bangalore

One of my friends is a student of NLSIU and here is his advice on how to prepare for CLAT.

  • You can take a year break to prepare for it or blend your routine in a perfect balance to prepare for it along with your studies. Assign flexible time hours to your CLAT preparation. You should follow a very strict schedule when it comes to the preparation of CLAT.
  • Pursuing an online course while studying in any institute for cracking CLAT might be helpful.
  • Remember to invest equal hours in preparation for all the questions you will be attempting. Your hold on English should be strong. Do not forget to practice reasoning every day.
  • Updating your general knowledge and current affairs regularly is also necessary.

With strategic planning, you can do well in CLAT.

Are IGNOU materials relevant for the UPSC?

RP
Ragini Prajapati Posted On : October 13th, 2022
M.A IN PHILOSOPHY from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

IGNOU Public Administration material is very simple and lucid, covering the majority of the UPSC Public Administration syllabus. Before moving on to books by Mohit Bhattacharya and Administrative Thinkers like Prasad & Prasad, IGNOU material is a good starting point. The same is true for the other subjects. So, if you are reading the subject for the first time, you can go through them to get a basic understanding of it.

It is recommended to read blogs on the subject, consult standard textbooks used for the specific course at university, and, most importantly, form a study group. For serious discussion on topics, this group should stay connected on a messaging platform like Whatsapp and the social media of your choice. If you do this religiously, your IGNOU and UPSC journeys will be smooth and enjoyable!

Disciplined UPSC candidates refer to the study material of this Open University's PG program honestly.

If you're talking about IPM at IIM Indore, I would say being a student here, that IIM Indore generally looks for students who can stand out among others.

In terms of WAT, reading articles helps a lot. You come across numerous themes, which helps you gain knowledge and build a good vocabulary.

For PI, study current events and trends and be prepared for odd questions. They will not only test your knowledge but also your IQ. As a result, the key to acing your interview is to respond with honesty and confidence.

I hope this piece of information is useful for you all and gives you a basic idea about how to start your preparation for WAT and PI.

What are some experiences people have had with the IGNOU exams? Are they difficult and what level of preparation is needed or can one be a bit easygoing?

SK
Sanchit Kapadia Posted On : October 13th, 2022
MCA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

The truth about IGNOU is that it does not care about you, and its success rate is much lower than that of other universities. IGNOU will be much more difficult than any other university; even your regular course may be much easier than what you will experience at IGNOU. It's not so much the degree that you'll get from IGNOU as it is the experience of how harsh and demanding life will be, how things will go wrong and you'll have to make them right. The terms provided by IGNOU may appear simple, but soon everything will begin to unfold; there will be success and setbacks. You will have to rework things over and over again, or you will fail. Exams are easy but they become tougher as you progress. You might get (low) grades as you've never gotten before, just because IGNOU is a miser in terms of giving marks.

Even though IGNOU exams are not difficult, here are some factors that contribute to their difficulty: The study material is never delivered on time; if it is, you will not receive your entire syllabus for the current semester; frequently, the study material arrives in the following semester. The exam schedule is appalling. There will be times when you have two exams on the same day, times when you have exams on consecutive days, and times when you only have one exam at the end of the month. Exam papers are not difficult (if you know the subject), but the point is that there is no specific standard that IGNOU has set for its marking scheme. As a result, even if you have answered questions correctly and to the best of your ability, you may still lose.

How do I prepare for IIT-JAM?

AC
Arindam Chakraborty Posted On : March 18th, 2021
Studied at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur

The process is straightforward, as my sister cleared it in 2014 and got an AIR 557. In the following, some techniques are listed to get well prepared for IIT-JAM.

  • Go through the entire syllabus thoroughly. Download or purchase the previous year’s question papers. Questions in the test usually come from a fixed set of topics, especially for Organic Chemistry. This will help you pinpoint the pattern. First, don’t solve the question papers rather mark the chapters, from which questions came frequently in previous years.
  • After getting the idea, focus on the chapters and simultaneously solve the question papers to cover every question on each topic on that particular chapter. Try not to waste much time on a single chapter.
  • After finishing these chapters, the student should be focused on the chapters, which are higher weightage. It generally comes frequently in JAM, but if not, then the student must complete the chapters first.
  • Concentrate on the easy chapters that contain fewer theories and numerical problems. These chapters are quite scoring. Cover the chapters containing theories side by side.
  • Most of the students generally leave that theoretical chapter. Thereby focusing on this chapter will be beneficial if chemistry is your main subject. If you are from a different subject, solve the previous year’s questions.
  • The most important thing to crack IIT-JAM is to solve the previous year’s questions, as this works as a magic box for the students. Start solving these papers in the month of December and January after completing the entire syllabus.
  • Taking coaching is not mandatory. You can do self-study too.
  • Practice as much as you can. Solving more and more questions helps to understand the chapters and to speed up the solving process.
  • Buy good reference books. You can find these books easily by Googling.
  • Do doubt clearing sessions with your friends and professors. You can also join crash courses to give the mock test and clear topic-related doubts.

Practice and stay motivated. Try to score in the top 100, that way you are likely to get admission to top IITs.
