Is an MBA (PGPM 1 year course) from Great Lakes Chennai worth 19 lakhs?

GM
Gaurav Mukharjee Posted On : August 7th, 2023
Great Lakes Institute of Management

It is based on your interests. Great Lakes is a comparatively good institute that offers effective academics and the best infrastructure facilities, especially in the IT sector. But if you are interested in concentrating on other fields like HR, Finance, and so on, then opt for NMIMS, SIBM, SCMHRD, XIMB, and the New IIMS.

Most of the leading B schools are charging close to 20 lakhs for this course, so it is worth paying around 19 lakhs at Great Lakes Institute of Management as it has better placement support

The recent Placement Statistics at GLIM are mentioned below:

Highest Package

INR 12 Lakhs per annum

Average Package

INR 6.55 Lakhs per annum

Which one is better- IIT Gandhinagar or IIT Hyderabad for mechanical engineering?

SA
Saef Ansari Posted On : May 16th, 2023

The worth and credibility of any department of a particular institute can be determined by the faculty pool of that concerned department. Generally,

  • Many faculty members working in different specializations mean that the students get to learn from a variety of courses. This helps you in exploring your interests better.
  • A large number of professors also imply that you will definitely find a person working in your area of interest with whom you can work on projects.

The Mechanical Engineering department of IIT Hyderabad specifically, has an extensive faculty pool of many professors that are specialties in diverse fields. IIT Gandhinagar’s Mechanical Engineering department isn't necessarily inferior, but a major part of the faculty pool comprises temporary visiting professors.

Thus for Mechanical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad is a better option than IIT Gandhinagar.

How is the BCA course at the School of Information Technology in IMS Noida?

SM
Shiva Mehta Posted On : March 10th, 2023
MBA Finance, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (1996)

The above answer is based on the reviews of my friends who are alumni of IMS Noida and are successful today. It's a very unbiased review and intends no criticism of the institute.

The primary 3 aspects that are the foundation of any college are its students, teachers, and infrastructure. So I will be writing the review based on these aspects only.

Teachers

There is a big difference between being qualified and being a good teacher. While most of the teachers are highly qualified, only a few are good teachers. Some teachers that genuinely care about the students and try their best to bring good results out of their students are

  • Sudhir Sir and Nancy Maam
  • A very practical Maths teacher Pankaj Sir
  • Very emphatic teacher Rashmi Maam
  • Barshma Maam who organizes cultural events.
  • Apart from these gems most of the teachers are full of ego and lack sympathy. The teachers do not motivate startups, athletes, or extracurricular activities and merely involve themselves in robotic teaching. There is no structured pedagogy and teachers are very lethargic. The syllabus is outdated and all this affects placements largely.

Students

Obviously under the guidance and training of such an average college, the quality of students stoops low. Most of them are lazy and just mug up concepts. But there are a few who want to strive hard but the lack of necessary resources does not let them excel.

Infrastructure

  • The computer labs have very old systems and the speed of the internet is extremely poor.
  • The classrooms lack ventilation and there are no microphones for lectures.
  • The wifi facilities are extremely poor and students hardly have open access despite paying fees for the same
  • The toilets are unhygienic and dirty
  • The library has a good collection of books the only drawback being no reminder system for renewal of books

All these points are genuine and not based on any official data.

Should I join IIM Jammu or continue working? Work experience is 3.5 years.

ES
Ekta Singh Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Co-Founder & CBO at Zeroswap Labs (zeroswap.io) | IIM, IESEG

The ideal number of years of work experience for an Indian business school's standard 2-year MBA program is between 2-3. However, in the United States, the ideal work experience for the MBA program is 5 years or more. Also, in India, if you can get into top schools, your higher work experience can be compensated. With this work experience, IIM Jammu will never be a good fit.

If you drop this year and try again next year, your work experience will be around 5 years, and the funnel will need to be even narrower for the 2-year program. Another option is to attend a foreign business school, but this will be expensive.

In light of the fact that an MBA is more of an investment than an academic achievement, you are advised to proceed with caution. Furthermore, the program moves at a breakneck pace. Make a thoughtful decision by taking some time to think things through.

What's your take on the withdrawal of IIM Rohtak from CAP?

AJ
Anu Jain Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Lives in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India

I think it is a good tactical decision for IIM Rohtak to improve its worth and image among the second-generation IIMs.

Despite being younger than IIM Shillong it is considered among the second-generation IIMs because it has been a part of CAP. If you look at the current situation, IIM Shillong functions from a temporary campus and yet has its own WAT-PI process. On the other hand, IIM Rohtak has its own permanent campus but lacks its own WAT-PI process. Now its withdrawal from CAP will enable it to stand out from the second-generation IIMs.

From the student's perspective, this strategy has increased their chances of getting selected as now if they fail to perform well in CAP, they can rely on Rohtak's own WAT-PI process and vice-versa.

How academically intense is the MBA at IIM Bangalore?

SM
Sharda Mishra Posted On : December 30th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (Graduated 2017)

The first year is extremely challenging because you will be studying subjects that you have never studied before. Accounting would be required for an engineering graduate, and statistics would be required for a commerce graduate. This, along with other activities, constant submissions, and class tests, makes the first year academically demanding.

In the second year, students have the option of selecting their own subjects, so they can take courses that are less rigorous academically than others. There is an exchange term in the second year as well, and for students who choose to participate in an exchange program, this is the least academically demanding term of the entire program.

DG
Deepti Gupta Posted On : June 11th, 2021
B. Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Patna (2022)

IIT Patna is the best among the given new IITs in civil engineering. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is the oldest institute. One of my friends studied at IIT Patna and it was a great experience for him.

Some of the reasons for opting for IIT Patna over other institutes are –

    • Faculty – The members are highly qualified. So, be assured of the quality of education you would receive here.
    • Facilities – They have their own environmental engineering lab, geotechnical engineering lab, transportation engineering lab, its own workshop which is all top-notch.
    • Events and activities – The department has its own club – ACE (Association of Civil Engineers) which helps to exchange knowledge between the juniors and seniors, the culture of unity, building alumni network, etc.
  • Alumni Network: Many of the alumni are doing research in prestigious global institutions such as Stanford University, UC Berkeley, NUS Singapore, University of Texas – Austin, Virginia Tech, etc.

KN
Khushboo Nautiyal Posted On : July 5th, 2021
MBA Business Analytics, LPU (2019)

LPU is a very well-known and leading private university all over the country. Among the colleges mentioned above, you should definitely go ahead with LPU as it has many good courses to offer; especially if you are from the field of computer science.

Here are some of the courses you can choose to opt for in the field of Computer Science and IT at the undergraduate level:

Bachelors in Computer Applications

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Bachelors in Computer Applications (Honours)

Dual degree BCA – MCA

  • If you are looking to pursue BCA at LPU, you can explore many electives like game design, business intelligence, AI, and digital marketing.
  • Most students are asked to select four electives that are not related to their field. This will boost your employability.
  • As far as the B.Sc course is concerned, you can take subjects like computer programming, digital electronics, data structures, fundamentals of web programming, database management, and many others.
  • You also have a variety of B.Tech options to choose from. At LPU, you can opt for a B.Tech in CSE or a B.Tech with this degree and specialization.
  • This is quite popular among many students because here, you will get to build many relevant skills and technical know-how in your areas of interest.
  • You have a variety of specializations to choose from.
  • These include Android Application, Data Science, Big Data, Full Stack Web Development and many others.
  • If you know which area you would like to work in after your degree in computer science, specialization is a very good option.

LPU also attracts a number of well-known IT companies that are known for their fieldwork for placements. The infrastructure and environment are also very pleasant for students to live and study in.

Which is better for CSE, IIT Gandhinagar or IIT Ropar?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 2nd, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

My rule for counseling is to select the branch and then check the institution. In your case, the branch is already clear. To compare any two IITs, especially the same generation of IITs, is quite difficult.

However, I will try my best to assist you with this choice. According to me, UG is the time for you to explore your passions and interests. After your graduation, it is very much possible that you end up choosing a career other than engineering. Therefore, you must get the space for self-exploration at this stage. IIT Gandhinagar has a very flexible curriculum that allows this kind of space. Also, IIT Gandhinagar has the biggest endowment among the second-generation IITs. It offers 30-40% of the batch opportunities to pursue foreign internships, and it has a very strong research culture.

IIT Gandhinagar has a locational advantage over IIT Ropar. Gandhinagar is the capital of Gujarat. The IIT campus is located in the vicinity of CM residence, Vidhan Sabha, the ambitious GIFT City project, and top institutes such as DAIICT, NIFT, and many others.

Placement-wise, for 2023, the B.Tech CSE branch at IIT Gandhinagar recorded 94.4% placement, with a median salary of INR 25.06 LPA and an average salary of INR 29.29 LPA. Top companies like Nutanix, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Barclays, etc. have been visiting the campus for recruitment for a long time. IIT Gandhinagar alumni have been working in top firms across the globe. To name a few-  Mckinsey, Microsoft in the US, Amazon, Apple, BCG, ATK, Bain, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, ITC, PnG, and Morgan Stanley.

I would suggest you also talk to the alumni from IIT Ropar to get a clearer picture. As far as my opinion is concerned, I would suggest you choose IIT Gandhinagar for your CSE. You can attend the JEE open house which is organized by IIT Gandhinagar in s Delhi, Gandhinagar, and Mumbai. Here you can meet the faculty, alumni, and students of this institution.
