Why is NIT Raipur not having international rankings while NIT Rourkela does?

AM
Arpit Mukherjee Posted On : September 12th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Raipur

NIT Raipur has not been ranked in international rankings because it still hasn’t reached the level where ranking bodies would consider it credible enough to be ranked. They consider a number of criteria while evaluating colleges such as Employment Reputation, Ph.D. faculty, Citations per faculty, Intentional students, and Intentional students. Sadly, NIT Raipur is way behind other NITs at least on the basis of the aforementioned criteria.

Here is a short comparison between NIT Raipur and NIT Rourkela that will help you understand this better

  • NIT Raipur was formerly known as GEC Raipur while NIT Rourkela was initially known as Formerly known as REC Rourkela
  • NIT Raipur gained the status of NIT in 2005 while NIT Rourkela upgraded to the status of NIT in 2005
  • NIT Raipur Overall ranking by NIRF is 101 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 while that of NIT Rourkela is 37 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 16th among nits
  • NIT Raipur has a 100-acre campus while the new campus will be 300-acre. NIT Rourkela, on the other hand, has a 1200-acre campus that is the 2nd largest after IIT Kharagpur.
  • NIT Raipur has a poor research culture while NIT Rourkela has an active research culture.

The above-stated points prove further why NIT Raipur hasn't been included in international rankings yet while NIT Rourkela has.

How do people with a poor ACAD profile survive in IIM Indore during the summer placements? Do they get jobs?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : June 26th, 2023

In IIM Indore, having a poor academic profile does not necessarily mean that you cannot secure a job during summer placements. While academic performance is one aspect of a student's profile, there are other factors that are also taken into consideration by companies during the hiring process. These include work experience, live projects, certifications, and PORs (Positions of Responsibility).

To compensate for a poor academic profile, students can focus on building up these other aspects of their profile. For example, if a student has below 85% in their 10th, 12th, and B.Tech, they can still secure a job if they have significant work experience in a relevant field, as demonstrated by one of the examples provided. In this case, the student focused on live projects, PORs, and certifications, which helped them to secure shortlists from top companies such as Google and eventually convert a PPO (Pre-Placement Offer).

Another example is a student who has less than 65% in graduation but has excellent work experience in operations. This student will still be able to secure several opportunities during summer placements and ultimately even convert into a PPO.

However, students with few accomplishments may have more trouble finding summer and final positions. Students should excel in academics, work experience, projects, certificates, and PORs. This will boost their job and career prospects.

How do companies shortlist students for JBIMS for summer internships even before the results for the first semester are not yet declared?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : March 6th, 2023

The selection process for a company is typically comprised of several steps. First, you will express your interest in the company through a google form or similar mechanism. The company will then release its initial shortlists. The next step is a group or case discussion of the shortlisted students. Finally, the interview process will take place, which may consist of one or two rounds, for those who clear the group/case discussion round(s).

The shortlisting process is based on the batch profile that is shared with recruiters. Companies usually have a shortlisting criterion, such as a minimum percentage in academics or a certain amount of work experience, which they use to create their shortlist. It is important to note that academic projects are typically completed in the first 1-2 months of joining a company, and these projects are added to the CVs of all students. However, HRs do not have enough time to go through individual profiles while creating the initial shortlist, so they rely on evidence such as academics and work experience.

Your academics appear to be quite good. To achieve your goal, you must now concentrate on getting an excellent CAT percentile. If you are in a general category, you should aim for 99.9+.

Begin by strengthening your fundamentals, such as reading comprehension, and devote time to strengthening your verbal skills. Devote 3-4 hours per day, without fail, to your preparations and take note of important shortcuts, tips, and tricks. You need to enter the credits and grades for each course you want to include in the calculation to calculate your Grade Point Average (GPA). Enter a credit of 1 for each entered grade for a simple average grade calculation, or leave the Weight or Credits fields empty.

You can optionally enter the course names. Select the Show Course Description fields check box and press the Calculate button to display the Description fields.

Then, you have to click the Add Row button to add more courses. Press the Calculate button to see the results, which include the total credits, total grade points, and calculated GPA.

Yes, it’s possible to do graduation twice. There are no rules against it. But make sure to choose an institute that is well recognized and UGC approved. The marks obtained in your last graduation will be treated as your marks for graduation.

You can also pursue two graduate degrees at the same time, one in regular mode and one in distance mode.

Can we take an education loan for studying in any IIM?

AS
Ahan Singhal Posted On : July 30th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (2019)

Yes, If you believe it will help you advance your career. You can receive a loan to pay for your education at any IIM.

  • In general, certain banks have connections with college officials and can provide education loans instantly and at a low interest rate.
  • Tuition, housing fees, laptops, and student exchange are all covered by these loans.
  • But in my opinion, I would suggest you think properly.
  • If an MBA (from any top university, whether Indian or international) will not add much value to your current professional profile, you should not pursue it (whether with or without a loan, as there is also an opportunity cost associated with pursuing a full-time MBA).

Value Addition -

  • There is a ceiling for some verticals, and to develop beyond, you'll require an MBA.
  • You might need a skill set that an MBA education can provide for the role you want to get into. These abilities will assist you in landing your dream career or post.
  • An MBA degree can sometimes be little more than a signal to employers that you are a deserving applicant.
  • This signaling will offer you an advantage in this situation.
  • It might be any of the following, a combination of two or more, or none of the above (if you don't think an MBA would bring much value).

I chose MBA because it seemed like a more straightforward path to my desired job. It helped me gain the required skills (yes, there are interesting and relevant things you can learn during your MBA course).

If any of the aforementioned points apply to you and your main issue is debt, I recommend pursuing an MBA. It will be worthwhile. Believe me when I say that you will be able to repay your debt.
