What is the mess menu at IIEST, Shibpur?

AP
Aishwarya Pathak Posted On : October 18th, 2023
Studied at IIEST, Shibpur

The mess menu at IIEST Shibpur is not fixed. This is how things work, at least for the first year hostels (Hostel 8,9,10) -

  1. A hostel representative and a mess manager are selected from among the residents of that hostel.
  2. Their work is to take student feedback, and frame a lunch and dinner menu for their mess. While doing so they must keep in mind that the mess bill must not cross a certain limit.
  3. This menu is conveyed to the mess cooks who prepare the dishes accordingly.
  4. The breakfast is provided by another catering company, and they are the ones who decide the menu for the same.
  5. No evening snacks are provided. But you can have something at the hostel canteens or the shops outside like Bhuribhoj and Mohan's.

The IIEST mess food is decent, but in no way comparable to homemade food.

I am in 2nd year civil engineering at NIT Jamshedpur. What is the right time to prepare for the IES?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 6th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

One of my friends completed his BTech in civil engineering from NIT Jamshedpur recently. He also cleared the ESE in the final year by preparing for the 2nd year. All he did was devote around 5–6 hours a day for the next two years daily.

Here also mentored the following tips:

  • Get the study materials for non-technical from any coaching institute and study them for an hour daily.
  • Start with one subject at a time, most likely Math because it will help you for GATE preparation.
  • For the technical papers, refer to handwritten notes of any coaching institute or refer to correspondence course materials
  • Make a small group of 2-3 students in your hostel so that you are continuously encouraged. Set targets for the group to achieve and work hard.
  • Monitor your process and keep a check on distractions.
  • Utilize all the free time to study because civil students have a very light curriculum and so are free most of the time.
  • Practice as much as you can.

Hope the above tips will help you clear IES!

How long does it take to pay off the loan for IIM Lucknow for an average student?

JP
Jay Puranik Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA in Marketing, Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2008)

The time it will take to pay off the loan for an average student depends on the kind of job you have landed and your personal expenditures and commitments. The other factors that might affect are your lifestyle, dependencies, loan amount, cost of living in your city, etc.

For a high-paying job, (around 20+ LPA), it will take 2 years maximum if you have no commitments, while 3-4 years if you are supporting your family.

For a less-paying job, it will take 3-5 years if you don’t have any commitments, while 5-7 years if you are supporting your family.

So the maximum time taken to pay off the loan is 7 years. Also, there are many EMI calculators available online. You can use them to calculate the exact figures.

Which is the best private B-school in Delhi NCR?

CB
Chandana Bhowmick Posted On : May 10th, 2021
Studied PGDBA at IIM Calcutta

The best private B-school to seek PGDM from Delhi is the Fortune Institute Of International Business. I have a few friends at the institute so I can give you some idea about it.

Highlights:

  • Approvals and associations of FIIB are from the National Board of Accreditation i.e NBA, Association of Indian University i.e AIU, and The All India Council For Technical Education i.e AICTE.
  • The fees and the placement are other important points to consider while choosing a B-School.
  • FIIB provides 100% placement as FIIB is a 2nd tier institute so it has a link with 2 tier companies.

Below given table shows a brief overview of the institution.

Particulars

Fortune Institute Of International Business

Ranking

93 for MBA by TOI

Highest Salary

Rs. 17 lakhs

Average Salary

Rs. 6.46 lakhs

Fees

Rs. 8.9 lakhs

Like other institutes, it does not give false claims of 100% placement but it claims that deserving students will get a good placement. Overall, FIIB would be the potential choice for pursuing PGDM from Delhi.

How many roommates can stay in one hostel room at IIT Bhubaneswar?

SB
Sourav Basu Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2021)

All students who have registered for full-time courses in the institute have to live in the

hostel. The rules and regulations of the institute govern the hostels.

  • In the beginning, for at least six to eight months, as a fresher, you will live in double-occupancy rooms. This is to make sure that you and other fellow newcomers are not affected by homesickness and isolation.

  • IITs attract students from a broad variety of backgrounds from across the nation. It promotes cross-cultural relationships. This will help you to socialize and create a sense of security with others.

  • All the allotted rooms have a set of furniture and fittings in each room. They consist of a bed for each inmate as well as a table, chair, ceiling fan with a regulator, and light fitting.

  • From the second year onward, you will be able to live in separate rooms with single occupancy in the hostel. The basis for such an allotment is to encourage students to focus more on their studies.

  • Throughout your stay in the hostel, you are not allowed to exchange rooms or furniture and fittings with other students. To do so you should get an allowance from hall management.

  • The hall management consists of the warden, assistant warden/wardens, the council of wardens or hall councils, and hall managers.

What is the minimum attendance required in Reva University?

MD
Marisa Dey, Posted On : November 3rd, 2021
B.E. Mechanical Engineering, REVA University (2021)

One of my friends studied at REVA University. According to him, it is said to be more than 75%.

It is safer upto 60% if you have a valid reason for your absence and have a leaving certificate. But going through this is a lot of hassle. This would require the involvement of the director or coordinator or mentor, etc.

So to avoid such a hassle it is better to maintain 75%. Take leaves only if they are absolutely necessary.

How strong is the brand of 'IIM Shillong'?

SD
Sanchari Das Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGDM Marketing & Operations Management, Indian Institute of Management Shillong (2018)

IIM Shillong's brand value can be determined through these aspects.

  • Placements: IIM Shillong has seen a gradual rise in the placement figures. This year the institute witnessed a 100% placement percentage with an increase of 72.56% in the Highest CTC to INR 55.22 LPA whereas the average CTC increased by 20.50% which stood at INR 23.10 LPA.
  • Competitions: The tremendous growth of the institute can be attributed to the various National Level competitions it has won so far. These competitions were conducted by companies like Yes Bank, Loreal, CFA institute, and other B Schools and also competed against IIM Shillong.
  • Crowd: The crowd at IIM Shillong has a diverse academic background ranging from IITs, and NITs, to LSR, SRCC, and even St. Stephen’s. Many State level cricketers and badminton players also make it to IIM Shillong owing to their high CAT percentile. However, the majority of the crowd is engineers.
  • Association: Many important personalities including Union Ministers have visited the campus for conducting talks and convocations. Also, the Late APJ Abdul Kalam was strongly associated with IIM Shillong.

I think these points are more than enough to give an insight into IIM Shillong's brand name.

Why is getting transcripts from Calicut University so expensive?

AM
Abhay Maurya Posted On : October 29th, 2022
Graduated from NIT Calicut

When you apply for the first time for transcripts, it only costs 500 rs, and each additional copy costs 10 rs. The first copy remains the same the second time, while each additional copy costs 10 rupees.

The huge increase of 90 rs for additional copies in 6 months is intolerable. Questioning the authority is pointless because they never provide a proper response.

The management system at Calicut is overly bureaucratic. If you go to them with a question, they will ask you to go to another person, and so on. You will not be held accountable for anything. Thus, it is extremely expensive to get transcripts.

Which is the best branch in NIT Raipur after CSE?

AM
Aditya Mishra Posted On : September 12th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Raipur

There is no ‘best’ branch as one branch may be best for you and not for someone else and vice versa. To find the best branch for you, you need to consider the following parameters

  • Your inclination toward the field
  • Current Job opportunities in the market for that branch
  • The faculty profiles of that department
  • The placement scenario of that branch
  • The workload of that branch

Assuming that you are looking for a job in the IT sector, I think the best option after CSE is IT. Here is why

  • NIT Raipur's IT placement scenario is almost the same as many common companies that recruit students from both branches.
  • The workload is less for this branch as the faculties there are quite relaxed. This gives the students enough time to prepare for exams like UPSC, and GATE.
  • The quality of professors is also top-notch like Samantha sir from the Mathematics department.
  • Other branches of NIT Raipur that are well-known are Mining and Metallurgy. If you are interested in these branches, then NIT Raipur is a good choice for you. However, core placements aren’t very good here so you will have to apply for software jobs and end up competing with CSE/IT students.

So choose your branch wisely!
