What is the scope of metallurgical and materials engineering at IIT Roorkee?

AR
Anusha Rahaman Posted On : April 17th, 2023
Lived in Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

The scope of Metallurgical and Materials engineering or that of any engineering depends largely on where your inclinations lie and how much you are willing to work for it. There are several rare cases wherein a student of Biotechnology, the least preferred branch of engineering, is offered to a good company with a very high package.

IIT Roorkee and in fact, most IITs have low core opportunities but many non-core opportunities. That being said, it’s advisable for an IITian to learn to code for future security. IIT Roorkee offers the perfect culture to learn to code.

It’s a well-known fact that Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, was also a BTech in metallurgy from IIT KGP. So I would like to conclude by saying that even if there are no opportunities at your door, create one!

Is it worth doing a 1-year course from TSW - IIM Nagpur General Management? I have around 8 years of work experience in different domains and now in SAP.

It is important to recognize that while an executive education or a distance learning course may not provide the same level of knowledge as a full-time MBA program, they do have the power to add the prestigious brand value of IIMs to one's name. This brand value can prove to be highly beneficial in the later stages of one's career, particularly in middle and senior management roles.

Therefore, when considering such a course, it is crucial to choose the course and institute wisely. For example, a course offered by IIM Ahmedabad will carry more brand value than one offered by IIM Nagpur, and a specialized strategy course will likely have a greater impact than a general management course.

As an individual who is an SAP professional, one might soon find themselves moving into project management and then on to program management. It is important to note that clients are often drawn to well-known and reputable names, and having an IIM tag next to one's name can add immense value when pitching to clients or responding to RFPs and RFQs.

Can anyone with a Xth 65% XIIth 67.4 and BTech 7.73 can practically land into good B-school such as FMS Delhi, IIT Mumbai/Delhi, NMIMS, NITIE or JBIMS?

MR
Mridul Roy Posted On : August 16th, 2021
PGDMM from NITIE (2018)

These institutes don’t give much weightage to academics.

  • FMS doesn’t consider your marks at any stage of admission. At FMS, You will get a call based on your CAT score. The final admission is often based on the Group discussion and Personal Interview. For the final call, 85% weightage is given to the CAT score and 15% is assigned to the GD-PI score.
  • JBIMS also admits students based only on their entrance examination scores.
  • NITIE assigns more weightage to GD-PI.
  • IITs also do the same.

Historically speaking, these institutes have offered admission to students with a similar profile as yours.

What is preferable between IIT Patna CSE and BITS Pilani, Pilani CSE with regard to internships, placements and MS admits?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : July 7th, 2023
The preference varies from person to person. Till 2014, BITS Pilani was the best institute, especially for the CSE branch. But today, the IITs gain the leading position as they are rapidly advancing every year. They have better infrastructure and academics than BITS. So, students started to prefer IITs since they have a lower budget than BITS. When it comes to the ranking of IITs, they are increasing every year in CSE. BITS Pilani is not easily accessible to many companies, which has decreased their placement support. IIT Patna offers foreign internships to the students and it is easier to get good CPI here than at BITS

For the MS, IIT Patna is better because, as we know, a tagline has more value on the outside, and you can prove excellence in your field with a good CPI from IIT Patna when compared with BITS Pilani.

Why does ISB Hyderabad charge twice as much as that of IIM even though it's a one-year program?

GR
Gourav Raj Posted On : February 15th, 2023
Former Head of Admissions at Indian School of Business (2004–2011)

The cost of obtaining a high-quality management education is reflective of the fees charged by institutions like the Indian School of Business (ISB) Hyderabad. It is important to note that the IIMs have traditionally been heavily subsidized, which has contributed to the difference in cost between ISB Hyderabad and the IIMs. However, this gap is gradually decreasing. It is expected that in the near future, the IIMs will also start charging fees that are comparable to or even higher than those at ISB.

It's worth considering that ISB Hyderabad invests heavily in hiring foreign faculty and engaging in international quality research work, which contributes to the overall cost of education. Additionally, many of the processes at ISB, such as placements, are driven by staff rather than faculty, which also contributes to the higher fees.

Which college should I choose, among Nirma, BIMTECH, Welingkar and FMS BHU?

RS
Radhika Srivastava Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
Former Industry Analyst

It is important to evaluate the various factors that can impact your career opportunities and growth while choosing a college. Among Nirma, Welingkar, and FMS BHU, BIMTECH may be a strong option to consider. BIMTECH has a long-standing history of providing quality management education, with an active placement cell that has been in operation for 32 years. The institution has a strong alumni network, with over 8000 alumni working in the service industry, and has consistently ranked among the top 10 private B-Schools in the country.

Additionally, BIMTECH's all four PGDM programs are AICTE approved, which is a significant accreditation that indicates that the programs meet certain quality standards. This can be an added advantage for the students. Furthermore, BIMTECH has established partnerships and MoUs with renowned organizations such as KPMG, LOMA, and IIBA, which provide students with valuable training opportunities that can help to further enhance their skills and career prospects.

On the other hand, FMS BHU may be facing some challenges in terms of placements and career opportunities. Although it is a reputed institution, the current scenario may not be favorable.

Therefore, it is important to weigh all the options and carefully consider all factors before making a final decision. BIMTECH's reputation and track record of success in the management domain, as well as its accreditation and partnerships, make it a strong choice for those looking to pursue a post-graduate program in management.

What is the true condition of Ph.D scholars in NIT Trichy?

A
Admin Posted On : February 12th, 2024

This is the situation at every institution, and not just NIT Trichy. The mentors are sometimes very strict on Phd. scholars. This can have a negative impact on their mental health. The solution is to conduct counseling sessions for both the mentors and the scholars. Those who feel burdened and pressured by the intense workload should remember that their hard work will eventually pay good results.

Gargi Roy Posted On : August 9th, 2021
Bachelor of Engineering Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

One of my friends graduated from Thapar University and was able to provide information regarding examinations. Here is the breakdown of the first semester in which 6 subjects amount to 22 credits.

  • Computer Programming – You will have 2 Quizzes, 1 midterm examination, 1 end semester examination, 2 Practicals, and 2 Vivas. So, in total it is 8 for Computer Programming.
  • Applied Chemistry – You will have 3 Tutorial Tests, 1 Practical, 1 Viva, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end semester examination. So, in total it is 7 for applied chemistry.
  • Mechanics – You will have 1 Project, 3 Tutorial Tests, 1 Submission, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end semester examination. In total it is 7 for Mechanics.
  • Mathematics – You will have 2 Tutorial Tests, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end-semester examination. In total it is 4 for mathematics.
  • Energy and Environment – You will have 1 mid semester examination, 1 end semester examination, 1 Quiz/ Thesis Submission. It is 3 for Energy and Environment.
  • Electronic Engineering – You will have 1 Submission, 3 Vivas, 3 Practicals, 1 Project, 1 midterm examination, and 1 end semester examination. The total is 10 for electronic engineering.

So, that totals up to 39. To get an idea of 2 Semesters, double it and add nearly 10% due to an increase in credits. There are nearly 86 exams including viva/ practicals and sessionals.
