Dr. Kumud Tanwar is a HOD of Chemistry in the Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya. She did M.Sc and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Rajasthan. Her interest areas are Environmental Chemistry, Chromatographic analysis, and Environmental Nanotechnology. She has more than 20 of experience in the teaching profession. She is also a member of the Association of Chemistry Teachers, the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists.

What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To enrich students' knowledge with seminars, workshops and other courses”

We ensure the growth and commitment of students in every way. The primary part of learning is student engagement. After taking sanction from the principal of the college, being the P.G. Head my goal is to plan, schedule, organize, coordinate and monitor the lectures and practicals for the students. To elevate the standard and empower the vision of the student's need-based workshops/seminars/symposia/short-term courses etc. are organized. Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya invites Guest speakers for interaction, guidance to UG/PG students and appoints class committees to motivate the students for skilled learning and excel in the department by making teaching-learning student-centric.


How do you establish healthy relations with students and fellow faculty?

“Provide a trusting classroom and motivate their passion within a friendly environment”

Student-teacher relationships significantly impact teacher effectiveness and student achievement. Establishing a positive relationship with the teacher helps a student feel more comfortable and safe. To establish healthy relationships, we provide a trusting classroom with mutual respect, enthusiastic and passionate teaching, making teaching sessions interactive, providing extra tutoring, creating a constant two-way communication and encouraging and motivating them to take their passions and interests and turn them into a career.

We tend to build positive connections with our fellow faculty members by respecting and trusting each other. We are supportive and friendly towards one another. By communicating openly with our fellow colleagues, we have regular open disquisition on professional and personal matters. We also celebrate functions and events together.


How do you bring a practical approach towards subjects as industry-oriented?

Everything we do is Chemistry. It is one of the most fascinated branches of science that entails a practical approach towards industry. Chemistry has assisted in the discovery and development of new and improved products that save energy and reduce pollution. It includes analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, environmental chemistry, polymer chemistry, industrial chemistry, geochemistry, nanotechnology and more. We conduct various conferences, seminars and short-term courses to enable children to go through the future aspects of various branches and shape their carrier in the industry.


How do you strategize the curriculum for the students in Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jaipur?

“Implementing new programs and adopting the latest trends”

The curriculum of the college is formulated by the University of Rajasthan. We keenly adopt the changes sanctioned and encourage to learn the subject with practical skills. As a member of the committee, we attend the meetings and helps in designing the syllabi. We also propose new courses/programs for the development of students and colleagues.

What are your views on placements and higher education for students?

“Our students got placed in ONGC, IONCL, BARC, DRDO, NIT’s and Geoscience”

After doing M.Sc. chemistry from our college students get a job in ONGC, IONCL, BARC, DRDO, NIT’s and Geoscience through the GATE exam and get an average package of 14-20 LPA. Students also wish to go abroad for Ph.D degrees. Some students have become Research Scientists, Research Officers, Research Analysts, Quality Control Analysts, Lecturers and Assistant Professors in various schools and colleges.


How do you help students to cope with outside world competition?

Competition is getting more pronounced these days. We try to keep the students focused, and goal-oriented, conduct interactive sessions, praise, encourage and acknowledge them to motivate their caliber. We set assignments for them and encourage them to teamwork on projects. We also counsel them and held mentoring sessions on a monthly basis to mush the ruthless world.


What extracurricular activities enhance the skills of the students in Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jaipur?

“Elevating student’s skills through workshops, quizzes, debates and sports activities”

Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jaipur has assigned various clubs for conducting extracurricular programs like quizzes, brainstorming competition extension lectures, workshops, debates, extempore, PowerPoint presentations, etc. related to the subject and others for the personality development of our students. We also persuade them to lend a hand in various competitions and activities so that they can evaluate their potential and can enhance their skills to achieve their goals. We send our students to attend various short-term courses at MNIT and DST, where a team of girls present their work and submit the report as an assignment.


What challenges do you face to uplift the education quality of Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jaipur?

Teaching, a noble profession is a daunting and challenging task. The face-to-face interactions between teachers and students along with vibrant and healthy debates are integral to quality teaching. But during COVID-19, online teaching cannot substitute social and emotional learning like empathy, attention, collaboration, critical and creative thinking. We have to upgrade our skills by attending various MOOCs and impart easy and approachable modules to the students. 


What approaches do you bring apart from the curriculum to train the students?

“Web-based lessons and educational visits are given to students”

We set various approaches for keeping students motivated and engaged. The Jigsaw method is adopted by us to differentiate the strategies and plans. Web-based lessons or multimedia presentations have a positive impact on student learning. We conduct various educational visits to chemical factories to train the students practically.
