Dr. Jayanti Goyal is working as the Head of the Computer Science Department at Kanoria PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya. She has completed her B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil, M.Tech. MBA and Ph.D. She has more than 15 years of experience in the field of teaching and training. She has published two patents, various books, book chapters and research papers in various national and international journals of repute. She is felicitated with Global Outreach Education Award for Excellence in Outstanding Researcher, Global Teacher Award and Education Icon award.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Ensuring smooth execution of all processes in the department for their benefits”

Being the Head, my responsibility towards my students is to lead, manage and develop their skills, so that we can ensure the department achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. Lastly, I am responsible for appointing Class committees, Class representatives and Faculty coordinators, setting and advancing the academic strategy of the Department in line with college strategic plans and direction.


How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

“By communicating with students, their parents and teachers on regular basis”

We maintain a healthy relationship with our students by maximizing their learning potential. We put together extra work packets, communicate with parents more frequently and take a genuine interest in the well-being of the student. Coming to fellow faculties, we ensure a cordial relationship by offering mutual respect, trust, motivation and support in need. We conduct regular open discussions to address the personal and professional concerns of our students and faculties. 


How do you introduce a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

“By bringing best internships opportunities for students”

As we know that the computer science subject in itself has a lot of practical approaches with diversified fields like cloud, data science, machine learning to web development, crypto and many more. Internships enable our students to be aware of the standards, rules, and regulations which are being followed in the industrial environment.


How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

“We do a rigorous analysis of university, students and industrial requirements”

Our college is affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. Therefore, the syllabus is designed by the university and we have to follow it simply. However, being a BOS member we keep on upgrading our courses and its syllabus with respect to industry and students' needs using invited lectures, workshops, conferences, field visits, etc.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?

“Students are growing in both areas”

Most of the students from our department are progressing in higher education. The training and placement center of the institute assists to offer placements after graduation by using career counseling through the support of the Alumni’s network and a lot of our students are placed in reputed organizations like Infosys, Genpact, etc. 


Which strategy do you use to help students to cope with this competitive world?

“I use the strategy of open communication and counseling sessions”

We conduct open discussions and mentoring sessions to help them and make them feel comfortable with the outside world. To deal with the competition, we have created a culture of cheerleading and good sportsmanship. Career counselling sessions, Stress management workshops, and Motivational lectures are also conducted regularly.


What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“We arrange all kinds of fun and learning activities”

In order to ensure all-round development of our students, we have various Centers, Clubs and Associations in the college to conduct various extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students. Through these activities, we instill long skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving and time management.


Which challenges are you facing to uplift the quality of education of your department? 

“Lack of proper software and irregular attendance of students”

As far as the education quality of my department is concerned, there are actually some serious barriers which we face frequently ranging from lack of genuine software, very frequent changes in the software versions and lack of research lab. Ensuring full attendance of students in every semester is another big challenge, especially in the theory classes of our subject. 


What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

“We conduct professional visits and expert lectures”

Apart from regular courses, we conduct various seminars, workshops, internships, industrial visits, Alumnae Talk, expert lectures, internships and hands-on projects, etc.

Any valuable advice which you would like to share with the young minds?

“Discover your own passion and acquire skills accordingly”

I would like to advise them to identify your own passion and don’t run blindly behind what others are doing. Evaluate your creativity or desire to work with people. Start asking yourself what you really want in your life. Because it is easier to navigate life when we know exactly the desires of our hearts.
