Amity University Ph.D. Admission 2023 has been closed for the July session. Admission to the program is based on Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) and Interview conducted by the university. The last date to apply for Amity University Noida PhD admission was July 31, 2023.

Amity University offers Ph.D. courses in two modes Full time (3 years) and Part-time (Minimum 4 and ½ years) with a maximum duration of 6 years, in both cases. It does not offer a PhD in distance learning mode. The admissions to Ph.D. are done twice a year for January and July sessions. Participation by the students in various interactions, submission of progress reports through presentations, etc. on a regular basis is mandatory during the program. Amity University Noida encourages interdisciplinary research and the exchange of ideas and knowledge in various related fields.

Amity University Noida Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates pursuing admission to the PhD program shall have to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:

  • The students should have completed two years of Master's OR M.Phil Degree from any accredited Indian or Foreign University in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade.
  • Applicants with M. Tech / M.E./M.S. qualifications in relevant disciplines with excellent academic records with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale or equivalent or 60% marks and with 60% aggregate in Xth, XIIth, and B.Tech/B.E will be considered eligible for admission in Ph.D. Programs in Engineering and Technology.
  • For a Ph.D. in Law, the applicant should possess a Master’s degree in Law with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade or M. Phil in law.
  • Applicants with Chartered Accountancy Qualification from 'The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India' (ICAI)/ Cost and Works Accountancy of ICWAI/ Company Secretary of ICSI with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade may be considered eligible for admission to PhD. Programs in the relevant field.
  • Foreign/ NRI / candidates with a Master's degree from a foreign university must apply with an equal certificate of AIU along with the Online Application Form.
  • Candidates who have cleared an All India National Level Competitive Examination like NET of UGC / CSIR / ICAR (ASRB) / GPAT / ICMR / GATE / DST - INSPIRE within the last 2 years from the time of applying for a Ph.D. at Amity, shall be exempted from the written test of the Ph.D. 

Amity University Noida Ph.D. Admission Guidelines

Application forms for admission to the Ph.D. program are accepted twice a year. For the January Session - Between October to December and For July Session - Between April to June.

Note: Applicants must Fill in the Application Form only if they meet the eligibility criteria for admission to the program, are able to submit all the required documents in time, and have a valid personal e-mail ID.

Ph.D. application forms can only be filled and submitted online through the Amity University website by following the given below steps:

  • Candidates should log on to the Amity University PhD admission portal at the official website.
  • Fill in basic details, i.e. Name, Phone number, and email ID.
  • Choose Program and Campus. Select the admission category.
  • Enter personal details.
  • Choose your category (Indian or Foreign)
  • Enter educational details with marks scored (Class X, XII, Graduation, Post-graduation, M.Phil.)
  • Enter family details (about parents).
  • Enter Publication and employment details (if applicable)
  • Upload the following documents.
  • Submit the application form.
  • Take the printout of the application form and keep it for future use.

The required documents are:

  • Scanned Passport-size photograph: (jpg, gif, png, jpeg, bmp) under dimensions of 3.5 x 4.5cm width.
  • Scanned Class X mark sheet (format: jpg, gif, png, jpeg, bmp).
  • Scanned Post-Graduation mark sheet till graduation (format: jpg, gif, png, jpeg, bmp).
  •  Research idea in a maximum of 1000 words.
  • Employment Verification Certificate (if employed and applying for a part-time Ph.D.).

Note: An Application Form Number and Password is generated on submission of the application form which will be required for future reference. Candidates can check the status of their applications by logging on to the Admission Microsite of the university website.

Amity University Noida Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET)

Candidates need to appear for the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET), followed by the Personal Interview round on the same day.

  • PET will be a computer-based test (CBT) conducted by Amity University in Noida. The test shall be of 90 minutes and 70 marks consisting of 95 objective-type questions. The test shall consist of the following two sections: General – 50 questions, 25 marks
  • It will be familiar to all candidates and cover the questions from General Awareness, English Language, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Analysis, Data Analysis, and Interpretation.
  • Program Specific – 45 questions, 45 marks. It is based on the subject and shall be divided into two parts further – 25 questions shall be from the Ph.D. Program subject & 20 questions from the Ph.D. Program subject
  • Candidates shortlisted in the written test will be intimated for an interview round by Amity University. The interview will be conducted by the faculty research committee and shall be of 30 marks.

Candidates who have appeared and proceeded with an All India Examination or NET of UGC / CSIR / ICAR (ASRB) / GPAT / ICMR / GATE in the last 2 years shall be cleared from the written part of the selection process. However, they will be required to appear for the Personal Interview round.

Amity University Noida Ph.D. Course Details

Amity University allows scholars to appoint a Co-Guide from outside Amity University as per the university guidelines. The main Guide for the scholar during the Ph.D. program is from Amity University, appointed as per the research topic and Guide availability. Ph.D. full-time enthusiasts have the scope to work as research fellows in the various ongoing prestigious research projects at the university.

Course work:

  • All candidates admitted to Ph.D. programs have to compulsorily do the course work assigned and shall be required to take a written examination for the same. The coursework period will ordinarily be of a minimum of six months duration. A candidate will earn credits for a Course Unit only if he obtains a minimum of Grade B+ (Points 07 on a scale of 10). If a candidate fails to get a qualifying Grade of B+, he/she will be given a second opportunity to improve his/her qualifying Grade to B+, i.e. Point 7 on ten point scale failing which his/her registration is liable to be canceled.
  • Scholars shall be required to undertake coursework for a minimum period of one semester, not exceeding one academic year from the date of the provisional registration

Comprehensive Examination:

  • Each candidate, on completion of course work, shall be required to take a comprehensive examination that will test his/her comprehension or knowledge in his/her broad field of research and his/her academic preparation and potential to carry out the research work.
  • The comprehensive examination shall be a combination of both written and oral examinations and shall be conducted by the faculty. 
  • The candidate is required to secure at least Grade B (Points 06 on a scale of 10) in a comprehensive examination.

Note: The candidates have to complete one year of minimum residency period but it does not imply that the scholar stays in the university campus. It only means that S/he resides in the proximity of the campus to enable her/him to attend coursework classes on a regular basis on assigned days since an attendance of 75% is mandatory to be able to take a comprehensive examination at the end of coursework.

Amity University Noida Ph.D. Scholarships

The Amity Science, Technology & Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) awards Fellowships to young researchers and scientists. Fellowships are available in all categories and are not restricted in any number. The candidate must have a top-notch academic record up to the Master's Degree from a University. The ASF Fellowship will be given to only those candidates who are not getting fellowship from any other agency and who meet the above eligibility criteria. The Fellowship amount varies from INR 10,000/- to INR 14,000/-.
