Course Curriculum Overview:

I took this course for my interest in mechanical. The faculty: student ratio is nearly 50:1 for all branches. The faculty members are highly qualified. A mid-sem exam would be conducted around 2 months after a sem begins and end-sem exams would be near the end of 4 months. The exams are a bit of more difficult side and a small number of people won't be able to pass

Ques. Which is better NIT Calicut or NIT Surat for mechanical?

● Top Answer By Saksham Gupta on 21 Aug 21

If you want to study mechanical engineering, I would recommend NIT Surat without a doubt. NIT Surat specializes in mechanical engineering. Let me share some details I got to know about while researching. It is the most organized and well-established department here. You could tell the difference between the faculties of the mechanical department and the others. The majority of the faculty are PhDs from prestigious IITs and well experienced in their particular fields. Furthermore, there are numerous mechanical clubs that are well established. So, in addition to excellent classroom teaching, you would gain hands-on experience on practical projects. Categories NIT Calicut NIT Surat Total course fee 5.42 lakhs 5.63 lakhs Placement rate 85% 90% Average salary package 8.1 lakhs 12 lakhs Top recruiters ABB, ADP, Amadeus, amdocs, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, CapGemini. One of my friends is from NIT Calicut. He is currently a student in the mechanical department. According to him, he has faced both ups and downs, but states that the journey is totally worth it. Faculty The faculty present in NIT Calicut is considered to be among the best 5 faculties among all the NITs.  They are well experienced and cooperative.  The syllabus and the course curriculum have been updated and improvised based on the GATE exam.  They are also updated with the motive to give students the idea of all topics related to all the branches. Placement NIT Calicut has a good placement rate of 87-92 percent overall.  Students get placement offers from IT sectors and corporate firms.  The placement record is seeing a positive graph with each passing year. Infrastructure The institute’s infrastructure is excellent.  It is well equipped with labs for practical use with the latest technology.  Lush green fields and grounds are present in its huge campus. Ques. Which is better as on today's trend, mechanical at NIT Calicut or ECE at NIT Jamshedpur?

● Top Answer By Anil Kumar on 21 Aug 21

ECE has more job opportunities than Mechanical Engineering. After completing Mechanical Engineering, you will get jobs in PSUs, in government organizations. If you are looking for a job after B.Tech or M.Tech then ECE will be a good option for you. But if you want to pursue higher studies and looking to go into a research field then choose according to your interest. In the following table, you will get basic information about Mechanical at NIT Calicut and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur. Category NIT Jamshedpur ECE NIT Calicut Mechanical Fees INR 1.88 Lakh (1st Year) INR 1.25 Lakh Recruiters Amazon, Unacademy, Global Logic, Humming Wave, etc. Cognizant, Samsung, Accolite, Aditya Birla Capital, etc. Average CTC INR 4.5 LPA INR. 7.40 LPA Lowest CTC INR 3.5 LPA INR 5 LPA Highest CTC INR 37 LPA INR. 43.17 LPA Therefore, both Mechanical at NIT Calicut and ECE at NIT Jamshedpur are good options. It all depends on which field you want to make your career. ECE will be the right choice if you want to be a part of the corporate sector after completing B.Tech or M.Tech....Read more

Ques. Is mechanical or ECE better in NIT Calicut?

● Top Answer By Karan Solanki on 20 Aug 21

According to some of my friends studying at NIT Calicut, the ECE branch is better in placements than the Mechanical Engineering branch. The placement greatly depends on the Aptitude and Academic record of the candidate.  The Teaching quality of both of these departments is not so good.  The candidate needs to work by themselves. The faculty might not be cooperative. Other than just depending on library books, candidates can prepare by learning from the internet as per the syllabus.  It is important to know that the departments are very strict about their attendance policy. 80% attendance is mandatory for all students.  Categories ECE at NIT Calicut Course Fee 5.42 lakhs Placement Percentage 89% Highest CTC 29 LPA Average CTC 11 LPA Recruiting Companies Infosys, TCS, Accenture, IBM, etc. Only of the bright thing at NIT Calicut is that the exams are conducted only from the taught portions of the professors and not the whole syllabus. The course curriculum is a bit old and not current industry-oriented. The campus life, facilities and hostels are good. Students here have a decent college life with less extravaganza....Read more

Ques. Should I go for PEC Chandigarh Mechanical or NIT Calicut Production?

● Top Answer By Disha Sengupta on 17 Sept 22

You should go for PEC Chandigarh Mechanical. The institute offers decent placements and career opportunities. The placement rate for Mechanical is around 90%. Companies visiting PEC Chandigarh placements recruit students in both core and non-core profiles. The salary packages offered are in the range of INR 3.6 LPA - 22 LPA.  Also, Production is a niche branch. The career opportunities available in the production field are limited compared to the Mechanical field. ...Read more

Ques. I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?

● Top Answer By Suchit Raghuwanshi on 27 Aug 21

NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.  On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.  The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs. The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.  For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds. Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them. Categories Mechanical at NIT Calicut CSE at VIT Vellore Course Fee 5.48 lakhs 7.83 lakhs Highest CTC 20 LPA 20 LPA Average CTC 9 LPA 6-8 LPA Recruiting Companies L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc. At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc....Read more
