What students say about National Institute of Technology - [NITK]

Likes

  • Placements and Internships: Great opportunities if you have good skills and have projects under your name.

  • I also liked the activities conducted by the clubs in NITK
  • The campus life is pretty good and the way the events are held the environment is good

Dislike

  • Hostel: I won't say it's horrible but it can be better
  • I was expecting a bit more of campus area with respect to other iit's which disappointed me but beach here nullified my disappointment.
  • The sports facilities are pretty bad for it to be of an nit
  • The faculty members just read some PPT slides and you won't understand them. You are forced to attend the classes due to the attendance policies.
  • And another thing is language but it is not the disliked thing almost everyone knows hindi

Course Curriculum Overview:

I scored good marks in my JEE MAINS exam, so I get into this college with a mechanical branch, and I was very excited to get into this college because this college is famous for its good faculty and good placements. I have selected this course because I want to become a successful mechanical engineer in big companies like Mahindra, IFB etc. I choose NITK because the college is the best in engineering, the placement is quite excellent and the education levels are very high in this college. Now, if I talk about the faculty-student ratio, then it's quite balanced. There are approx 85-90 students in each class and there are 2-3 faculty or teachers for each subject. The exams are held twice in a semester, one is mid-term and another is the main semester exam. The exams are not that difficult to pass, as it depends on the hard work of the students. It becomes hard for those who don't care about their studies.

Ques. Which is better, NIT Surathkal for mechanical or IIEST Shibpur for CSE?

● Top Answer By Avni Mallick on 26 Jul 21

Both NIT Surathkal and IIEST Shibpur are amazing institutes and the departments of the mentioned branches are at their best. The deciding factor here is your branch of interest. If you are inclined towards Mechanical Engineering, you must opt for NITK. If you are more into coding IIEST must be your choice. Another factor to look for if you are not that specific about the branch to study is the institute's proximity to your home. The one which is easily accessible must be preferably your choice. Shibpur is very well connected to all major cities. Frequent industry visits are conducted. NITK Surathkal is located in Karnataka. Their campus is the best. They even have a beach surrounding its campus. Categories CSE at IIEST Shibpur Mechanical at NIT Surathkal Course Fee 5.68 lakhs 5.40 lakhs Highest CTC 29-35 LPA 28 LPA Average CTC 17-18 LPA 10-15 LPA Recruiting Companies Deloitte, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc. L&T, JP Morgan, IOCL, GAIL, etc. But when we compare placements in the CSE branch of IIEST Shibpur to the mechanical branch of NITK, IIEST Shibpur wins hands down. The decision here ultimately comes down to you. Consider all the above factors and choose wisely....Read more

Ques. Which is better, IIT Bhubaneswar for mechanical or NIT Surathkal for ECE?

● Top Answer By Kritika Agarwal on 14 Aug 20

As your choice of course is different, it’s hard to select between IIT Bhubaneswar and NIT Surathkal. According to the NIRF 2019, IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked at 26, which is a good rank considering it’s a new IIT. The Mechanical Engineering department is quite good at IIT Bhubaneswar. According to the 2019 placement record, 83% students got job offers from Mechanical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar. Many famous companies such as Amazon, H Jindal Stainless Ltd, KEC International, KIIT, Rao Edusolutions, TATA steel, TATA Advance System, Thermax, TETCOS, TESCO, UHG, and other companies as well recruited students last year. NIT Surathkal is a well-reputed name in Indian Engineering institutions. According to NIRF Ranking, it ranks at 22 nationally among engineering institutes in India. ECE in this NIT is even better as compared to a few IITs. The placement records of 2018-19 show that 97% of placement offers were received by students in this department. The average placement offer was 12-13 LPA. Both IIT Bhubaneswar for Mechanical and NIT Surathkal for ECE are good choices with their own advantages. So, choose wisely according to your convenience....Read more
