NIT Silchar was founded in 1967 as a regional engineering college in Silchar. It is one of the 31 NITs in India.NIT Silchar is ranked 40 in the engineering category by NIRF 2023. BTech and MTech are two of NIT Silchar's flagship programs. NIT Silchar BTech admissions are based on JEE Main rank followed by JoSAA counselling. Applicants for the BTech program must obtain a JEE Main exam rank between 7300 and 65000. A GATE score between 400 and 600 is preferred for admission to the MTech program.

During the 2022 placement drive, about 94 recruiters came to NIT Silchar. Some of the top recruiters are Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Arcesium, Intuit, etc 537 offers were made and 97 individuals were placed during the NIT Silchar Placements 2022. NIT Silchar Admission 

NIT Silchar admission to UG, PG and Ph.D. courses in 20 departments is primarily based on national-level entrance exams. Among all programmes, B.Tech is considered the flagship course offered at NIT Silchar with an approved intake of 884 seats. Admissions to the NIT Silchar BTech course are made on the basis of seats.

Besides the B.Tech Programme, NIT Silchar also offers courses such as M.Tech, MSc, MBA, etc. Admission to these Programmes is based on GATE, IIT JAM, CAT/ MAT/CMAT scores followed by a counseling process. Candidates from outside India are selected through Direct Admission of Students from Abroad (DASA).

Apart from UG & PG courses, NIT Silchar provides Ph.D. courses in the departments of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Management. Applicants with a valid JRF/ NET score are exempted from appearing in the institute-based entrance exam.

NIT Silchar Scholarships

NIT Silchar has a variety of programs available for students to choose from. The following list includes a few of NIT Silchar's well-known scholarship programs:

Scholarship from the Swami Dayanand Education Foundation: Students can apply for this scholarship if their family's annual income is less than INR 6 lakhs. According to different caste classifications, students are awarded scholarships with around 30% of the available scholarships earmarked for female candidates.

Chinese Government Scholarships from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD): NIT Silchar students are eligible for Chinese Government Scholarships through the MHRD based on their qualities and in accordance with Chinese Government regulations. 

NIT Silchar Research Fellowships: The Ministry of Human Resource Development offers research fellowships to students enrolled in postgraduate research programs or Ph.D. programs at NIT Silchar.

Scholarship for ST Students: The Ministry of Tribal Affairs of the Government of India provides scholarships to deserving and needy ST students. For the purchase of laptops, PCs, books, or any other academic accouterments, students are given INR 45,000.

NIT Silchar, one of the 31 NITs in the nation, was founded in 1967. Numerous ranking organizations, including NIRF, India Today, The Week, and many more, have ranked it. NIT Silchar Campus And Events

It is located 8 kilometres and 10 km, respectively, from Silchar's city centre and train station. The Cachar district's administrative centre is located at Silchar in the Indian state of Assam. Silchar is connected to the rest of the country via rail, road, and air. There are only 326 kilometres between Silchar and Guwahati, the state's capital and economic centre. Students can easily tour the city using the available transportation on weekends.

Every February, the annual Incandescence cultural festival takes place. Artists, singers, and celebrities from all around the nation are welcomed. It also includes ThunderMarch, a metal concert, and the Glitterati, NITS's annual fashion show.
