Remarks :
To get into IIT Guwahati, I had to first clear JEE Main exam, conducted in January and April 2023, which made me eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. I got 99.81 percentile in JEE Main. I attempted JEE Advanced exam on 4 June. I got 197 marks out of 360, which made me comfortably land in EEE branch at IIT Guwahati with an All India Rank of 1741. I am from General category. In my opinion, the admission process is near perfect as it has to select the brightest minds in the country.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose the course of Electronics and Electrical Engineering due to my interest in electronics, especially robotics. The faculy:student ratio here is quite good, as expected from any IIT. The professors are very highly qualified, which gets reflected in their wonderful teaching methods. Exams are conducted very frequently here, and they are not so difficult to ace with regular study of the subjects.
Internships Opportunities :
Wonderful internship opportunities are provided in IIT Guwahati by companies such as Google, Oracle, JP Morgan, Microsoft, providing the aspiring engineers with world class exposure, along with a good stipend per month. Internships are generally done in the 2nd and 3rd year summer breaks. Many pre internship projects are done by the students, keeping them away from any fears during the internship period. Also, the college provides facilities of a 6 month internship to those interested, while compressing the BTech course into one of 3.5 years.
Placement Experience :
The placement season in the college is a very important one. Even before that, students get to do internships from 2nd year of BTech, providing them exposure to all kinds of companies and job sectors. All kinds of companies like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Uber make their way out here in search of bright minds capable of developing the companies further. They even provide the students with Pre Placement Offers, if their internship performance is commendable. The highest package goes upto above 2 crore INR per year, with average packages of above 25 lakhs INR per year. Above 85% of the students get placed in the end, with the others interested in higher studies. Nobody is left idle. My plans after BTech are to pursue a well paying job with a good working atmosphere.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The college charges around 2,64,000 rupees per year, including hostel and mess fees, for the entire course of 4 years. This cost is reasonable in my opinion, pertaining to all the wonderful academic and living facilities provided here. In addition, scholarships are provided by the government to students requiring financial assistance, and also to students belonging to SC and ST categories.
Campus Life :
The campus life is amazing here, mostly due to the people and the exposure we get here. All kinds of books and journals are found in the Central Library here, providing much needed help to the students. The classrooms are very well built having projectors for better learning experience. In addition to academics, all kinds of clubs are available in the Student Activity Centre, all run by the students. Sports and other extra curricular activities are given a high priority as well, having competitions being conducted regularly.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel room accomodates 2 students per room for 1st and 2nd yearites and single rooms are provided for the others. The rooms are well built with all basic requirements, including chairs, tables, almirah, cupboards. The hostel mess provides nice healthy food in every meal, including all kinds of dishes. The hostel was assigned by the authorities themselves at the time of admission, without any problems. The hostel is very comfortable to live in compared to renting a PG or room, as there would not be any such room or PG providing all such facilites nearby.
