IIT-BHU used to be a part of Banaras Hindu University, in 2012 it became an IIT but it still shares the same campus with BHU. The campus is spread over a 1350 acre campus (acclaimed to be the largest residential campus in Asia) and well equipped with all the basic necessities. There is a full-fledged hospital and a health centre within the campus. There is also a trauma centre nearby, in case of emergencies. Students have much more freedom here compared to any other IIT. You can go in and out of the campus at any time (although girls have a 10 PM hostel curfew). Due to the large student population, there are shops inside the campus, or just outside from where students can buy basic necessities. Pros: Placements are really good - at par with top IITs. (The average CTC for this year was ranged between 10 LPA to 58 LPA ) Only IIT which allows students to keep their own vehicles within the campus (officially, from 2nd year). You can get your branch changed after the first semester results. (Provided you fulfill the required CGPA) Being over a hundred years old, this college offers a vast alumni network. There is a great coding culture and students from various branches and departments take part. The campus is a ragging-free zone. This is not really required because the senior-junior interaction is really healthy. There are several councils and clubs offering all types of activities. There is an active Student Counselling Service - which has proven beneficial for freshers. There is also an induction programme to get students used to the college before the curriculum takes off. You can get access to books from libraries of both IIT(BHU) and BHU. This makes for a very LARGE collection. Only IIT with two pure vegetarian messes, without Onion and Garlic. There is also a special South-Indian mess. Non-veg is also provided within the mess itself. Cons: The infrastructure in some of the hostels is quite old. The rooms are usually small. The college does not have some sporting facilities yet, such as - a squash court, its own pool, etc. and students have to share with BHU, which puts up some restrictions. The gym is usually crowded - although there are private gyms nearby (you will have to pay for them). Overall, IIT BHU is a good college with amazing placements and decent academics. ?

Why is IIT BHU so underrated?

IIT BHU is underrated primarily because of its infrastructure. There’s a lot of issues with this since it is a 100-year-old construction and since then, there have only been renovations all around the campus. Also, it has become an IIT only in the year of 2012 and started receiving hefty funds only since then. Over the years IIT BHU improved its infrastructure but it will take few more years to reach the same level as other IITs. After getting the status of an IIT, the institute is looking after the students’ facilities and spending a lot on the extra-curricular activities. It is surely underrated as of today because of the infrastructure, but hopefully, that will change in the coming years.

What are the life hacks at IIT BHU?

As a fresher, you’ll need some of your documents such as Aadhar card, PAN card, fee receipts, and photographs very frequently for the library, hostels, SIM cards, and various other purposes. So it would be better to have photocopies of the above things with you. Another suggestion would be to join a sport or a club of your liking and stick to it till the end. It would help you stay active and aware which would eventually be helpful during your placements and internships. Many of the seniors may say that CGPA wont matter and give examples of their friends who might have excelled at other fields or bagged a quite nice offer from some MNC. Those stories may be true but CGPA does matter, so focus on improving your CGPA. Attend all the classes and tutorials. This will help you during semester exams and you won’t have to mug up the syllabus right before exams. You’ll be getting high-speed internet here, so just make sure that you do not invest all of your time binge-watching serials, movies, TV shows, and youtube. Why don't consultancies recruit from IIT BHU?

Consultancies do recruit from IIT (BHU). However, there are relatively fewer hires for these positions as compared to other sectors. Some of the famous consultancies that hire from this IIT are - Deloitte, McKinsey, B. EXL, ZS Associates, Capgemini. In 2020, only 21 students were recruited for consulting positions, as compared to about 800 recruits overall. The reason behind this is stated below: As it is an Institute for technology, most students prefer going to more technical areas of work. After graduating some students prefer to pursue an MBA after a couple of years of work in the field. Students do not have courses in IIT which solely focussed on leadership skills and/ or business management. Also, there are no courses in economics and finance. There are usually fewer job opportunities in consulting - even lesser for people coming from purely technical institutions. Some people go into building start-ups rather than going into entry-level management/ consulting positions, especially since they can develop the technical skill-set in college itself.

IIT BHU often referred to as the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi was established in 1919. Admission:

I gave JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. My JEE Advanced rank was 6443 (CRL). I opted for IIT BHU civil engineering. Admission process was done through JOSAA counseling which is a quiet famous process. Admissions in CFTIs/GFTIs are done through JoSAA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are around 50-60 credits per semester. This means you will have around 5 courses per semester with 2-3 classes of one hour each per subject. There are around 30-40 faculty members in civil engineering. Exams are quite easy to pass if you follow the curriculum. Passing exams is not much difficult here.

IIT (BHU) Varanasi

As we all know admission into the iits is through jee advanced. You get a seat in iit after qualifying to jee advanced (prior to which you have to qualify jee mains) through jossa counseling according to your rank. The cutoff for the general category is around Air 7000 to take admission in Civil Engineering at IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

In IITs you don't select a branch you get it coz of your rank. The same thing happened to me of course. Faculty to student ratio is pretty good here. Faculties are definitely highly qualified and old professors had a traditional method of teaching. In a semester, there are two term exams- mid-term and end-term.

The entrance exam is JEE advanced l Yes, there are reservation benefits like in other IITs. Entrance is made through JOSAA counselling consisting of 7 rounds and now it reduced to 6 it's a very long and smooth process. you will get a seat in iit according to your JEE advanced rank.

I choose this course because this is the only branch that I can get in this iit bhu as per my JEE rank .faculty to student ratio is pretty good. faculties are highly qualified. there are two examinations in a 4-month semester i.e. mid and end-semester examinations.

LIFE AT MY COLLEGE

Eligibility for civil engineering in iit bhu is around AIR 5000-6500 but for me, as I belong to the ST category it is 300-350. The application process and counselling performed on the JOSSA site Reservation benefit was availed as I couldn't clear JEE in the general category but I got eligible through the ST category As such Improvement is currently not needed but if previous data can also be published on jossa site for a smooth process

In my family, there is already 4 civil engineer so I influence by them thus I also choose this course. In my batch there are 140 students and maybe around 550 students in civil engineering and the available faculty for them are 30 so the ratio is quite good (i.e. for every 20 students there is one faculty available) Faculties are very knowledgeable and have remarkable qualifications from foreign countries and teaching methods are available both offline and online. Smart techniques are also available like projector, mic, speaker etc. There was 2 exam in each semester and the total semester is 8 so we have to give 16 term exams and there is also summer vacation and winter vacation between them. Difficulties are not much that issue every student starts to study a week before the term exam and got decent marks.

IIT BHU (VARANASI) - A choice to be at ;HONEST REVIEW ; killer placements and amazing college Life;

IIT BHU offers a wide range of courses in engineering (B.tech,IDD,B.Arch) The admission is only the Jee Advanced exam .First a person applies for Jee mains and after clearing it , gives the Jee Advanced examination which is the window for entering any IIT. Eligibilty is just that the person should be in 12th appearing year or the year after passing 12th . So ,there are max of two attempts for Jee adv exam ,and the applying candidate should clear it and get a satisfactory rank as well to get admission into IIT BHU. Cutoff Closing rank as per 1st round is 426-858 for CSE and 17416-18173 for Architecture in open category Details about Jee Advanced ,application process, can easily be found from some reliable source or official website of any IIT. Yes there is criteria of reservation based on caste and gender as well . So those falling in some category can have their supporting docs ready for availing such benefits. The admission process in IIT BHU is quite well , with no modifications req.

I took Electronics engg @ IIT BHU , primarily as per cutoff but moreover there are other strong reasons of chosing this deemed institute having a history of more than 100 yrs. it has great alumni network Benchmark placement records perks of being an iit holy place to enjoy awesome coding culture greenful campus faculty:student ratio is like 1:130 but apart from that their are teaching assistants and other mentors which facilitate the understanding of academics well. teaching faculties in the first yr are assistant professors , who are highly qualified and experienced as supposed to be. Talking abt teaching , so that is specific to the teacher but i find that 70% times teachers are very helpful and supportive with excellence teachings . there are good opportunities in lab and research . term exams are as per schedule all the times , with rare changes in schedules and yes the exams are really hard in most subjects like maths and computer (1st sem) and of moderate level in some too.

lets explore IIT BHU in a different way

One has to qualify for JEE mains and JEE advance to get a seat here. who has a rank under 12000 gets a seat here. reservation benefit is also available. for SC, and ST students may get a rank under 30000 then they will get seats. The application process is available in JEE main.nta.nic.in.

I choose this course because the placement opportunity is good here. Almost every faculty is foreign-qualified. their teaching method is also good. all are highly qualified. all have done their Ph.D. and some professor has post-doc also. exam pattern is also quite nice. we have midterm and end-term examinations per semester. it is not that difficult to pass. 98 percent of students pass it without any difficulty

I applied for JEE mains on the NTA website and cleared the cutoff which was followed by JEE advanced for which I registered on the JEE advanced website. I obtained AIR 2325 and took admitted to IIT BHU Electronics.

I chose Electronics because of it being a circuital branch and having good placement opportunities associated with it. The ratio is around 1:123, Faculties are usually PhDs and reviews happen after every semester. 2 examinations were held each semester within a gap of 2 months. Passing is relatively simple.

A beautiful life of IIT BHU

The eligibility of the course is that you must be GPAT qualified and you will find the application on the official site of BHU, There are 20 seats for general category students 5 seats for EWS students 10 seats for OBC, and the rest for SC and ST. Everything is fine in the admission process

I was interested in doing pharmaceutics as it is in great demand Faculty: Students ratio in different specializations is different but in mine, it is 3:1. all teachers are post-doc. There is an annual calendar according to that exam happens and exam are easy to pass.
