What is better between an engineering degree from Mumbai University or from any autonomous institute like VJTI, KJ Somaiya or SPIT?

RR
Rupohi Roy Posted On : January 4th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (2019)

You may have confused SPIT (Sardar Patel Institute of Technology) with SPCE (Sardar Patel College of Engineering). SPIT is not an autonomous institute. The courses offered in SPIT are Computers, IT, Electronics, and Electronics and Telecom.

Deciding Factors:

If you are looking for any particular program, then you should narrow down your choice of college based on courses. If you are more college-driven then you should go through the following points to make the right decision.

  • First, you should ask yourself about what do you want out of your engineering degree, whether it is academics, extracurricular, or co-curricular.
  • Also, it depends on your future goals. Whether you want good placements, seek higher education, or go for start-ups.

VJTI:

Considering all the factors, VJTI is the best option.

  • It is an autonomous college with a strong foundation. It also has a broad alumni base.
  • All these factors result in better internship opportunities, better placing companies, and a better network in education.
  • For extracurriculars, most of the engineering colleges in Mumbai offer almost the same opportunities. However, Thandomal, DJSCOE, and RAIT offer mesmerizing events. However, since extracurricular is not the sole factor of consideration, VJTI will be sufficient.

The placement statistics of recent years at VJTI are as follows.

Average CTC

6.8 LPA

Highest CTC

27 LPA

Academics and co-curricular do not depend on the institute only. It is what you make of it. VJTI is the best choice as it provides a good network and exposure.

Preference Order:

The preference order of the institutes other than VJTI is as follows.

  • Placement- SPIT>DJSCOE>KJSCOE
  • Reputation- SPIT>KJSCOE>DJSCOE
  • Academics- SPIT>DJSCOE>KJSCOE
  • Alumni- DJSCOE>KJSCOE>SPIT
  • Extracurricular- DJSCOE>SPIT>KJSCOE

If you get admission to VJTI you should definitely opt for it. You should consider what course you are choosing and research about the facilities and placements. For example, CS at SPIT has better placement than ME at VJTI or any of the other colleges mentioned here.

Also, autonomous colleges have better administration in MU. They have a better examination schedule, quick result release and you will have higher chances of securing a good CGPA.

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (2022)

Out of textile engineering from VJTI and CS from KJ Somaiya, CS from Somaiya will be a better choice. As one of my friends studied there, I am able to share some facts about it.

  • CSE is a trending branch and the most popular one. The best option for you will be KJ Somaiya.
  • When it comes to placement at KJ Somaiya, they are decent. A total of 70 companies visited the campus for on-campus placements and offered great salary packages.
  • The campus life at KJ Somaiya is amazing and is very welcoming.
  • KJ Somaiya is an autonomous college and there are many advantages of being from a college with an autonomous status.

Which is better, a CS at VIT, VJTI, BITS Goa, BITS Hyderabad, or NIT?

NG
Neha Ghosh Posted On : January 16th, 2021
Studied Computer Science at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2019)

BITS Goa boasts highly of its alumni network. And, the proof of the same is visible with students getting masters from Carnegie Mellon, placements in Google Mountain View, Amazon Seattle, Apple Cupertino, Microsoft Redmond, Facebook Menlo Park, 6+ in Amazon India, 6+ in Flipkart, 4+ in Epic Systems, Goldman Sachs, etc.

  • Students at BITS have a compulsory six-month internship (for a single degree) and a 12 month internship (for a dual degree).
  • People also get PPOs with a stipend between 20-30k.
  • The companies which offer internships are Amazon, Microsoft Research, Nutanix, Flipkart, Dreamworks (USA), Samsung, EMC, etc. These internships reward 20 credits to the semester score of a student.

There is also a considerable fee difference amongst all the colleges.

  • BITS alumni have a wider reach than the NITs. There are no visible NIT alumni working in large numbers in Amazon, Flipkart, McKinsey, Bain, etc.
  • NIT graduates usually opt for MTech in IITs to grab the mentioned companies. So thereby, there stands no chance to compare BITS with VIT.
  • BITS students are responsible for giving the most reliable startups via RedBus, Swiggy. Microsoft and Google use the innovation of Postman which was a creation by BITS students when they interned at Yahoo.

To conclude, BITS Goa stands better than all the above options relying on its outcomes. Students from other universities also, will agree with the following facts about BITS Goa.
