What is the CGPA to the percentage conversion rule at IIEST Shibpur?

SM
Subhashree Modak Posted On : October 18th, 2023
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2017)

Most probably, you are concerned because of the percentage field that appears when applying for PSUs (via GATE), IIMS (via CAT), or foreign universities.

Unfortunately, IIEST Shibpur follows no CGPA to percentage conversion rule.

The authorities will tell you to use the absolute percentage, which is less than CGPA*10. They will simply provide you in writing that IIEST doesn’t have a CGPA to percentage conversion rule.

It is difficult to score good grades in most departments, and added to it is the lack of a proper conversion system. This causes major disadvantage for IIM aspirants, job aspirants, and those applying to foreign universities.

How good is IIM Shillong for HR?

KA
Kshitij Arora Posted On : January 16th, 2023
completed MBA in 2014

One of the major USPS of IIM Shillong is the diversity of electives it offers. Anyone who hasn’t decided on a domain can have a peek into the various angles of the business sector and then make a healthy decision.

The courses offered are flexible, comprising a blend of Marketing, HR, Operations, Finance, etc. This enables the students not to specialize in a single domain only. As far as HR is concerned, I have listed down some highlights of this particular domain at IIM Shillong.

  • IIM Shillong offers an impeccable variety of courses ranging from Organizational pathologies to HR tools.
  • The faculty includes some widely acclaimed personalities in the field. Some renowned members of the permanent faculty include Prof R.Dwivedi and Prof S.Kakoty. These professors just don’t impart HR knowledge rather they ingrain it in us.
  • The guest lectures are augmented by highly honored professors like Prof M Deshmukh. He gave an overview of the HR domain through activities like designing a dream job. He bought in specialists to teach some important fundamentals.
  • The HR clubs at IIM Shillong like UsHR keep alive the student-driven factor. The club conducts quizzes and article writing competitions to facilitate self-learning among the students.
  • You can also opt for CIS. This is a thesis you write about a suggested topic. It enhances your previous knowledge and exposes you to various dimensions of HR.

At the end of the program, you will have developed a detailed knowledge of terms, concepts and insights.

You can choose from multiple courses in edX and Coursera to help you develop your CV.

  • If you are particularly worried about getting a job, my advice to you would be to prepare well.
  • You should submit your CV to various job portals like Naukri.com and LinkedIn as these are the ones that are highly popular.
  • You will also have to study very hard. Learn new skills to make your CV strong.
  • Build new connections.
  • Connect with your friends, seniors and also try to find out which companies they are planning to work in.

You will have to give your absolute best. Do not go out looking for a job, invest some time and look for a reliable job.

What is the condition of commerce graduates in IIMs, XLRI, FMS and other top b-schools? Are they competitive and successful?

KV
Kashish Verma Posted On : June 14th, 2021
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (2018)

Combining the most important aspects from reviews, the points below deeply illustrate the situations faced by those students in all kinds of management institutes, tier-1 to tier-3, in our country.

  • The first semester in a B-School is somewhat having a mixed difficulty for commerce graduates. In almost every B-School, Accounts is taught in the first semester. Most commerce graduates face no problem as it is their core subjects. The engineering graduates are seen to fumble even in accounts basics.
  • In the first semester, Analytics is a subject mostly quantitative in nature and uses all kinds of simulations and statistical software. Some students from commerce background have a fear for maths and simulations and are not comfortable with the use of computer in such tasks.
  • In the second semester, corporate finance is one of the most important subjects for placement, as most of the interview questions are asked from this part. It is simple but tricky at times and is considered to be the utmost base for students having finance specialization.
  • Operations is a subject in the second semester, which is a little boring. This also requires maths and simulations. It is a good subject but, not all students gain interest in this, and so, lose interest in the business.
  • In 2nd year, students are given choices to choose, on which their future depends.
  • The course of Financial Statement Analysis is a highly deceptive course. For students having a background in commerce, this subject is almost similar to equity research, which makes them revisit their graduation knowledge.

There is a harsh reality as evident from many reviews that commerce students are more successful in fundamental equity research and audio, and not in finance. The reason behind such irregularity is the lack of knowledge in quant and mathematical software simulation.

HS
Harish Shah Posted On : October 16th, 2023
B Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Karunya University

The Management at Karunya University keeps changing. Every VC has their own opinions although they follow the same principles.

  • Some focus more on the outward appearance of students than their academic progress.
  • A few VCs consider dressing sense important and expect the students to wear tuck-in t-shirts so that they look decent and neat. However, their primary focus is on education and extra activities.

So it’s impossible to know what he expects from you. You have to be prepared for all scenarios.

Which is better in terms of infrastructure and academic workload (lesser is better), IIT Ropar or IIT Mandi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 30th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

IIT Ropar can be a better choice for you than IIT Mandi. The infrastructure of IIT Ropar is commendable; they have recently shifted their campus to its permanent location and have seen immense growth in the last few years.

The campus is spread across 500 acres with mind-blowing facilities, including utility blocks, hostels, and a sports complex. All the building blocks of the college are super structured, and the campus is eco-friendly, which offers students the opportunity to relax and study in nature.

IIT Ropar will not burden you with work; you can easily get on track using a consistent study routine and a love for your subject. There are only five working days per week, consisting of five hours per day accompanied by a ten-minute break after each hour. The classes are really good, and you can also use the library facility for more reference. The students are given only a limited number of assignments and tutorials by the lecturers. In the tutorial session, you can discuss your doubts or any issues with the teachers. They are ready to help their students.

Apart from all this, IIT Ropar has got the 33rd position in India in the ranking 2023 held by the National Institute Ranking Framework and the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

So IIT Ropar is a good option than IIT Mandi.
