Are the opportunities the same for a vet passing from a private veterinary college and that from a government college (like TANUVAS, Bombay, and GBPUAT)?

RS
Rahul Sharma Posted On : September 10th, 2021
BVSc and AH from Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar

Yes, because regardless of whether you graduated from a private or government-approved college, you will receive a registration number to practice from the state registration authority in the state where the college is located.

However, because of its strong alumni base, the government veterinary institutions have a better industry reputation.

However, only a few private colleges in the north are performing particularly well.

Also in the current industry, most recruiters are concerned about specialization. They will be more concerned regarding your master’s degree. So, focus on your studies and try to join a reputed university for masters.

Is it possible to get an education loan before admission in IIM Rohtak? Is a co-borrower necessary, as my parents income is 1 lacks per year?

SR
Shivani Rai Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
MBA from IIM Bangalore (2018)

You can take a loan for pursuing your studies at IIM Rohtak. Many banks provide you a loan for your education without keeping collateral or any security before. The only thing you need is to have a co-borrower that can be your father, mother, brother, sister, or any other known person. However, you need to submit some amount of money to get your seat reserved that can't be given by the bank initially but can be reimbursed after some time.

Also, you can take a loan more than your total fees for the course, so that your other expenses like a laptop, traveling costs, certification courses, or any other can be fulfilled smoothly.

I will complete my MSc in applied geology next year from IIT Kharagpur. What should I do to opt for a PhD program at IIT Bombay/IIT Kharagpur?

The first step in the journey of getting a Ph.D. degree is giving either of these exams; GATE, NET, CSIR, or UGC. Next, you have to decide on a particular field in which you will be conducting your research. After this, you have to look for a faculty advisor that has experience in the kind of research work you are looking for. His teaching style should necessarily align with your learning style. Conduct extensive research on the topic you will be working on.

IIT Bombay: Here, you are required to do some coursework on the topic you have chosen. Choose the course that will give you more opportunities than others. Most Ph.D. students take some courses only to make up the required credits. This is not right as you will miss the opportunity to learn so much from every department. The most preferred courses are CS and Modelling at IIT Bombay.

One can even upgrade their skills in Mathematics and Statistics. Other courses that might help you in research work are fluid mechanics, soil mechanics, inorganic chemistry, solid-state physics, and thermodynamics.

Basically, you should choose your coursework not only for credits but to get knowledge of the research work you will be doing. Seek help from your advisor on the same.

What are my chances of getting into IIMs, FMS, IIFT, XLRI with the below details?

RS
Ranjit Sinha Posted On : June 24th, 2021
B.Sc Mathematics & Strategy and Management Consulting, Shiv Nadar University (2016)

IIFT conducts its own entrance test while for XLRI you need to appear for XAT. All other colleges like FMS, IIMs accept CAT scores only. All these are difficult entrance tests on their own, so focus on getting a good percentile in all the entrance tests in the first place.

After getting a good percentile, getting calls and eventual conversion depends on a lot of factors including past academic records, work experience, and GD/PI performance.

  • Since your overall profile is being evaluated, with an average academic past, IIM Ahmedabad will only call you if you score close to the 100 percentile.
  • IIM Bangalore may call you below that then its final selection also puts importance on consistency and high academic scores.
  • IIM Calcutta is known for putting higher stress on past academics and a score of more than 99.6/99.7 percentile can only guarantee a call.
  • The newer and baby IIMs may call you in the 99 percentile region.
  • As far as IIFT and XLRI go, also scoring something close to 99 percentile or more can only help you.
  • The best approach should be to target other private B-schools and non-IIMs such as FMS Delhi, NMIMS Mumbai, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, XIMB Bhubaneswar, IMI Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, etc.

Ultimately past academic records, work experience you cannot change. The only thing in your hand is your CAT/XAT/IIFT percentiles and your GD/PI performance. Focus on getting as high a percentile as possible.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at Shivaji University?

RD
Raya Das, Posted On : October 21st, 2021
B.Com from Shivaji University (2021)

One of my friends recently graduated from Shivaji University. According to him, it is quite different from other universities. Let me share the tips he provided which might help you in the beginning of your 1st year.

  • First of all, try preparing for the university exam from your first day of college, if scoring good marks is important to you.
  • There will be a lot of assignments given to you. Try completing them in the given time with proper precision. As this will be beneficial for your university exams.
  • You must be accustomed to self-study as depending completely on the faculty members might lower your chances to score higher marks.
  • Concentrate on the practicals as they will provide hands-on experience.
  • Make sure you maintain a 75% attendance. Attendance also depends on your internal marks so prepare well.
  • For theoretical questions try writing lengthy and informative answers, as this will fetch you good marks.

Lastly, try maintaining good behavior by being punctual, attentive, and sincere. If you fail to behave properly it will affect your internal marks, which will overall affect your scorecard.

Is it true that IIM Bangalore gives calls to toppers of board exams even at 99 percentile range? What is the minimum percentile at which such converts occur?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 12th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

For 2024-2026 batch, IIM Bangalore has revised its shortlisting criteria for PGP. These are the new weightage awarded to different qualification stages-

  1. The CAT 2023 weightage has been increased to 55%
  2. Class 10th weightage has been reduced to 15%
  3. Class 12th weightage has been increased to 15%
  4. No weightage is assigned to graduation marks
  5. Gender diversity weightage has been increased to 5%
  6. Work Experience weightage has been increased to 10%
  7. No weightage has been assigned for academic diversity

Thus, for PGP 2024, those who get a high score in the 10th and 12th boards have an improved chance of receiving a call from IIM Bangalore. Though the minimum score is not mentioned, unlike before, the 10th and 12th scores have been assigned equal weightage.

Also, the weightage for the CAT score will significantly increase from 40% to 55%.

Make sure to perform well in your CAT. A good academic background is very much necessary. Work experience also carries a 10% weightage for the shortlisting process.
