IIFT conducts its own entrance test while for XLRI you need to appear for XAT. All other colleges like FMS, IIMs accept CAT scores only. All these are difficult entrance tests on their own, so focus on getting a good percentile in all the entrance tests in the first place.
After getting a good percentile, getting calls and eventual conversion depends on a lot of factors including past academic records, work experience, and GD/PI performance.
- Since your overall profile is being evaluated, with an average academic past, IIM Ahmedabad will only call you if you score close to the 100 percentile.
- IIM Bangalore may call you below that then its final selection also puts importance on consistency and high academic scores.
- IIM Calcutta is known for putting higher stress on past academics and a score of more than 99.6/99.7 percentile can only guarantee a call.
- The newer and baby IIMs may call you in the 99 percentile region.
- As far as IIFT and XLRI go, also scoring something close to 99 percentile or more can only help you.

One of my friends recently graduated from Shivaji University. According to him, it is quite different from other universities. Let me share the tips he provided which might help you in the beginning of your 1st year.
- First of all, try preparing for the university exam from your first day of college, if scoring good marks is important to you.
- There will be a lot of assignments given to you. Try completing them in the given time with proper precision. As this will be beneficial for your university exams.
- You must be accustomed to self-study as depending completely on the faculty members might lower your chances to score higher marks.
- Concentrate on the practicals as they will provide hands-on experience.
- Make sure you maintain a 75% attendance. Attendance also depends on your internal marks so prepare well.
- For theoretical questions try writing lengthy and informative answers, as this will fetch you good marks.
Lastly, try maintaining good behavior by being punctual, attentive, and sincere. If you fail to behave properly it will affect your internal marks, which will overall affect your scorecard.
Is it true that IIM Bangalore gives calls to toppers of board exams even at 99 percentile range? What is the minimum percentile at which such converts occur?
For 2024-2026 batch, IIM Bangalore has revised its shortlisting criteria for PGP. These are the new weightage awarded to different qualification stages-
- The CAT 2023 weightage has been increased to 55%
- Class 10th weightage has been reduced to 15%
- Class 12th weightage has been increased to 15%
- No weightage is assigned to graduation marks
- Gender diversity weightage has been increased to 5%
- Work Experience weightage has been increased to 10%
- No weightage has been assigned for academic diversity
Thus, for PGP 2024, those who get a high score in the 10th and 12th boards have an improved chance of receiving a call from IIM Bangalore. Though the minimum score is not mentioned, unlike before, the 10th and 12th scores have been assigned equal weightage.
Also, the weightage for the CAT score will significantly increase from 40% to 55%.
Make sure to perform well in your CAT. A good academic background is very much necessary. Work experience also carries a 10% weightage for the shortlisting process.
