How is MS by Research at IIT Madras different from Phd? Considering both are research focused programs.

RB
Ranjini Banerjee Posted On : March 30th, 2023
Research Scholar at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

The basic differences between MR at IIT Madras and Ph.D. at IIT Madras are

  • Research: MS program has less research work than Ph.D. It is considered an extended version of MS and many MS students go for a Ph.D. afterward.
  • Degree: An MS degree is awarded if the student has a minimum of 1 international conference paper and if the panel is satisfied that the work has met the standards of the institute. Whereas a Ph.D. is awarded only when the student has a minimum of 2 international journal papers and if the panel is satisfied and considers it as per the standards of the institute.
  • Coursework: An MS student needs to take at least 5 graduate courses whereas a Ph.D. needs to take 4. Additionally a Direct Ph.D. or M.S.+PhD. needs to take 8.
  • Duration: The time taken to complete an MS program is between 1.5-3 years whereas for a Ph.D. and M.S. + Ph.D it takes 3-5 years. This duration might be increased in case a student is unable to complete it in the given time frame.
  • Viva: In Ph.D., you are required to pass a challenging Viva Voce, while in M.S. you need not. The difficulty level of this viva varies from department to department.
  • Stipend: Under the HTRA scheme, an MS student gets INR 12400 while a Ph.D. student gets INR 25000.

Despite these differences, the general routine and schedule of both MS and Ph.D. are similar. Ultimately, more than your program, your research topic and performance will matter.

Yes, SBI Bank offers education loans to students pursuing MSc Maths at BITS Goa. SBI Bank is one of the leading banks in India and provides education loans to eligible students who wish to pursue higher studies in India or abroad.

To be eligible for an education loan from SBI Bank, the student must meet certain criteria, such as:

  • The student should be an Indian national
  • The student should have secured admission to a recognized course in a recognized institution in India or abroad
  • The student should have a good academic record
  • The student should have a co-borrower who has a steady source of income

In addition, the bank may also require certain documents, such as proof of admission, the fee structure of the course, academic records, income proof of co-borrower, etc.

Once the loan is approved, the bank will disburse the loan amount directly to the institute, as per the fee structure of the course. The student will be required to start repaying the loan after the completion of the course or after getting a job, whichever is earlier. The repayment period can vary from bank to bank and can be up to 15 years.

What should i choose? XLRI or Ms in MIS from University of south florida?

RS
Rahul Singhal Posted On : May 15th, 2021
Studied at Sharda University, Noida (2019)

It is a highly subjective question and largely dependent on what you want to do. Having said that, here I am concentrating on XLRI because it is a top MBA college in India, whereas USF is not in the creamy layer for MIS schools in the United States. If you are interested in a particular job role and believe that USF will provide you with a better opportunity where you can still apply.

You should always pursue something that you are passionate about; MBA or MS degrees from prestigious universities are both excellent choices.

If you want to go into management and learn how all business processes are integrated, an MBA from XLRI is a good choice. If you want to hone your computer or IT skills, then MS is a better choice.

SG
Shalini Guha Posted On : November 30th, 2021
studied at Bangalore University (2017)

The Statistics department is one of the best at Bangalore University (BU). But if you are planning on doing your M.Sc. from BU, then it is advised that you opt for it in any other institution.

As, BU is known to delay the publication of the results, which is one of the major complaints of the students. They also take no action to rectify their faults. Your complaints will tend to go unheard most of the time.

How good is NIT Trichy in MS (Research in CSE) program?

RM
Rohit Mishra Posted On : July 26th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

NIT Trichy is a reputed institution that will provide you with a great platform. However, the MS (Research in CSE) program depends on your area of interest and the guide under whom you are working.

NIT Trichy provides satisfactory research facilities like Research Labs, Journal Access, Accommodation, Library, etc. The guide/ research supervisor selection depends upon a professor’s interest and vacancy under them. This is decided after your interview process.

You should go through the faculty list to see which professors share your area of interest. Then after your selection for the MS Research in CS program, you can go to those professors and ask for their guidance.

The first year in general is dedicated to completing the coursework. A minimum CGPA of 7.5 is required. The NIT Trichy classroom faculty is good and helpful if you approach them with a problem. You can also discuss your queries with fellow students.

MS (Research in CSE) requires 2 international conferences or 1 journal to get a degree. The average course duration is 2.5 years, but it can extend to 3 years as well. If you work in a planned manner, you can complete the course in 2 years.

For higher studies, MS Research gives you the right start. One of my seniors got into NUS Singapore because of the quality of his research papers. Placement opportunities are as good as the M.Tech CSE branch with companies such as Amazon, Flipkart, Microsoft, IBM ISL, Qualcomm, Morgan Stanley, PayPal, Oracle, etc. hiring MS Research students. Only a few companies do not allow MS Research students to sit for placements.

With hard work and dedication, you can do wonders as an NIT Trichy student.

What is the number of MD/MS seats at PGIMER Chandigarh?

PR
Praniti Ranjan, Posted On : November 23rd, 2021
M.B.B.S from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad (2018)

The number of MD/MS seats at PGIMER Chandigarh changes every year, every session, according to your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, Sponsored, etc.) and branch or department.

This is because for every session admission to the vacant seats is based on the previous pass-outs in that branch or department. It also depends on the demand of a particular work in that department and other factors.

Check the JSP Page website - pgimer.edu.in before every session to get the exact number of seats available in that particular session.

This session there are a total of 148 seats and 33 of them are for the General category students.
