SM
Soumyadeep Mahapata Posted On : April 14th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

A few pros and cons of being a student in the ECE department of IIT Roorkee are

Cons

  • The faculty has little interest in teaching and the pedagogy and evaluation methods adopted are obsolete.
  • The curriculum is old school and is irrelevant to the current industry demands.
  • Some labs are poorly maintained with no replacement of faulty equipment
  • You will lack employability because of no awareness of modern-day techniques, practices, and skills required by a good ECE Engineer.
  • Teaching is mostly theoretical with less practical explanation and implementation.
  • Students prefer noncore jobs and thus lose interest in the core ECE field
  • Apt of irrelevant courses need to cover just for credits

Pros

  • The department is located in the same building as that of CS and thus you will be sharing some courses and electives with CS students making you more employable.
  • You will have an edge over others because most software companies prefer ECE and CSE students over other branches.
  • The excellent reputation and alumni network will fetch you great research internships from abroad.

After weighing the pros and cons of both, make a decision that will help you shape a better career.

Should I choose IIT Delhi or IIT Madras for engineering physics?

SD
Souvick Das Posted On : March 30th, 2023
Software Engineer at Microsoft

I can attest to the fact that Engineering Physics at IIT Delhi and IIT Madras is the perfect blend of Physics and Electrical Engineering one could ask for.

You can opt for both physics as well as electrical courses as your electives. Your final year project can be in any one of these departments and you are free to choose provided that there is a good balance between science, mathematics, and engineering.

Most students of Electrical Physics eventually go for Electrical as you design your course instead of getting stuck on a mandatory curriculum.

At IIT Delhi, there is more focus on Physics than Electrical and for those interested in the same, this course is bliss.

I am getting computer science engineering at GNDU Amritsar and biotechnology at NIT Jalandhar. Which one should I prefer?

SB
Sonal Bansal, Posted On : November 10th, 2021
studied at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (2017)

The choice mainly depends on the individual as both disciplines are entirely different. Firstly decide if you want a career in the corporate industry or not. Biotechnology is a very good subject with numerous opportunities, but it lags a bit behind in the Indian market.

On the other hand, there is a huge demand for CSE graduates both in India and abroad. Due to the immense popularity of and sudden rise of IT firms, there are many opportunities. You will never have to struggle to get a job in a reputed company.

Placements are better for CSE graduates than Biotechnology graduates. Choose the one that suits your interest.

Should I go to IIT Patna CSE or drop this year?

SD
Samir Dasgupta Posted On : June 22nd, 2023
Studied Computer Science at Indian Institute of Technology, Patna

It's illogical to consider giving up on such a good opportunity of joining IIT Patna CSE and taking a drop year. Don't let the fact that IIT Patna is a second-generation IIYT dissuade you from joining it. CSE from any IIT is a golden opportunity and should be considered without any hesitation.

IIT Patna has been here since 2008 and has grown a lot ever since its establishment and is still expected to improve every year. The placements of this branch in itself are a testament to its excellence.

Number of students registered

74

Number of students placed

73

Placement Percentage

98.65%

Highest CTC

INR 82.05 LPA

Average CTC

INR 35.57 LPA

Median CTC

INR 32.85 LPA

Additionally, the students of this branch are achieving great heights in all the competitions and have been offered paid internships in various companies and top foreign universities. The environment is academic-friendly promoting research and other opportunities. The seniors are very dedicated to guiding you in every step.

I dont think taking a drop year is a wise decision as there is no certainty of improved rank. So, its better to join the CSE branch of a new IIT than to take a drop year unless you are certain of a better rank.

Which branch should I choose, MNC in IIT BHU, IIT KGP, IIT Guwahati, or IIT Kanpur?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 6th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

If you have an interest in Computer Science, then MNC in IIT BHU is an excellent choice as the program has more CS courses than Math. There are various other reasons that make this course an excellent choice

  • IIT BHU has an environment conducive to coding and research.
  • The curriculum is flexible with a wide variety of electives to choose from and explore all fields
  • The programming clubs help hone your programming skills to the fullest
  • The placement scenario is excellent and recently a student was offered a package of 1.29 crore by Microsoft with the average package being 30 lakhs.
  • The usual average package is always above 20 LPA
  • Most CS companies offer similar job profiles to MNC students as well. Some of these are Microsoft, Oracle, Samsung, Uber, Intel, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs, etc.
  • Being an old IIT, it has an extensive alumni network
  • There are great clubs and committees to promote extracurricular activities.
  • TECHNEX, one of the oldest techno-management fest of India is organized by IIT BHU and its sports fest Spardha is the largest sports fest of India.

Basically, if you are inclined towards CS, then MNC at IIT BHU is better than both MNC at IIT Kanpur and CSE at newer IITs. MNC at IIT Kanpur is more inclined towards Math whereas the newer IITs lack the necessary infrastructure and opportunities.

What should I take: ECE in NIT Jalandhar or electrical/mechanical in PEC Chandigarh?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Former Trainee Decision Scientist at Mu Sigma (company) (2019–2020)

You should choose ECE in NIT Jalandhar over Electrical/Mechanical in PEC Chandigarh. NIT is not an NIT solely because of the label. If you are perplexed, come to campus. You will be so taken with the campus that you will forget about the other factors.

There will be numerous opportunities available to you. Companies come to the NIT J campus all year. Even if you are an average performer with the ability to express yourself, you will have no trouble finding work. Aside from small events held every other week, NIT J hosts two National level Fests each year, which will allow you to explore your technical, managerial, and artistic sides.

People are caring and giving. Mech is a challenging but rewarding department; you will enjoy your time here. The only thing keeping NIT J down right now is that it is relatively new, so it has a smaller alumni base, but it is rapidly growing. Finally, NIT Jalandhar is preferred over PEC.

Can I get into Computer Science in Chitkara University with 56 marks in JEE Mains and 70% in CBSE boards?

AS
Anuj Sahu Posted On : May 22nd, 2021
B.TECH Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, Chitkara University (2019)

If you’re willing to join Punjab campus with 56 marks in JEE Mains and 70% in CBSE boards, it would be extremely difficult.

It would be best for you to go to the Baddi campus with that much score. Equal opportunities are provided to students of both the campus. People tend to believe in the notion that Punjab campus is superior to Baddi campus as the former was established first. However, this is not true. It all comes down to your learning skills. The better you are, the more options you are provided to choose from and to polish your coding skills.

To know more about the admission you can get in contact with the institute.

Do INTEL recruit from BITS Pilani Chemical engineering?

RR
Rohit Roy Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Studied at XLRI Jamshedpur (2019)

Chemical Engineering at BITS Pilani offers amazing placements in other fields such as IT/CSE/ETC and others. But one of my friends studying chemical engineering there said he is quite uncertain about it.

Top-notch leading electronics companies such as Intel have their base in the USA with 40% of its engineers as chemical engineers. Intel in India does not have a lab in which chemical engineers work. They have desk work in India.

But if you pursue your higher studies and apply for a job in the USA then you might get selected in the USA.

What is the average package at IIT Hyderabad for engineering science?

SN
Sagar Namdev Posted On : May 15th, 2023

The average package for Engineering Science at IIT Hyderabad cannot be determined as it has been recently launched. The branch is an excellent choice for those who are unaware of their area of interest and inclinations.

The curriculum is well-structured and industry relevant. In the first and second semesters, you will be taught common courses from all the branches. In the 3rd semester, you will be required to complete projects from all branches. Lastly, you will be required to opt for a branch of your interest that you will be studying in the 4th year.

The placements of the branch you have chosen and the actual branch will be the same. For instance, if you opted for CS, you will be eligible to sit with students of the CS branch for placements.

The degree awarded will be BTech in Engineering Science and your chosen branch.
