Thapar University Merit Scholarships – BE/B.Tech Students

Merit Scholarships to the first-year UG students will be awarded on the basis of All India Rank

(AIR) in JEE Mains 2025 for the year 2025-26 with the criteria mentioned against each scholarship:

In the case of BTech (Biotechnology) and BTech (Biomedical Engg.), students admitted on the basis of JEE Score/PCM shall only be considered while deciding the total admitted students in these branches. Any fraction will be converted to the next whole number e.g. if 10% of admitted students come to 11.2 then 12 scholarships will be given. 339 (approx.) All eligible students 30% of TF Minimum 8.50 CGPA in all the preceding semester(s) and should not have any backlog in the year of consideration and must have passed all the courses offered in the semester(s) prior to the year of consideration.
Merit Scholarships-VI (C) (For Lateral entry Students admitted in 2nd year of BE/BTech) Aggregate Marks > 60% but less than 70% at Diploma level. All eligible students 25% of TF Minimum 8.50 CGPA in all the preceding semester(s) and should not have any backlog in the year of consideration and must have passed all the courses offered in the semester(s) prior to the year of consideration.

Important Note: In order to calculate the aggregate marks at 10+2 Level for Scholarship, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English (Mandatory) are the four subjects that will be considered. Chemistry can be replaced by Biology, Biotechnology, or any other Technical Vocational subject, that was considered at the time of admission. For scholarship in Bio-medical and Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Mathematics, and English (Mandatory) will be considered.

Notes for Mert-Cum-Means Scholarship- Lateral Entry

  • LEET Students admitted in the 2nd Year through lateral entry will be eligible to apply for the TIET MERIT-cum-Means Scholarship on the basis of criteria mentioned at Sr. No. 3 i.e.Mert-Cum-Means Scholarship- Lateral Entry.
  • Only 2 (maximum) LEET students will be selected under this category.
  • LEET students will not be considered normal students of 2nd year who are applying for TIET MCM Normal & Special.
  • From 3rd year onwards, these students can apply MCM with other normal students with the criteria of CGPA ≥ 7.50.

Thapar University Scholarship – ME/M.Tech. Students

The candidates admitted in M.E./M.Tech. will be eligible for the scholarship as per the following:

Scholarship from AICTE

  • Candidates with valid GATE scores will be considered to receive scholarships only if approved and the amount released by AICTE or any other funding agency (applicable only for intake approved by AICTE)

Scholarship from TIET

  1. Candidates with valid GATE scores and who are getting scholarships from AICTE or from any other funding agency as mentioned at S.No. (I) above, shall also be eligible for an additional scholarship of Rs. 5000/- per month from TIET.
  2. Candidates with valid GATE scores and who are not getting scholarships from AICTE or from any other funding agency as mentioned at S.No. (I) above, shall be offered a scholarship of Rs. 12,400/- per month by TIET.
  3. ME/MTech Candidates who are not GATE qualified shall be offered Rs. 10,000/- per month for 10 months in an academic year.
  4. A minimum of 70% (65% for SC/ST) of marks in a qualifying degree will be required to avail of these scholarships. For continuation of Scholarship in the second year, a minimum 8.00 CGPA at the end of the first year will be required with no backlog.

Thapar University Scholarship- MSc Students

The candidates admitted in MSc. will be eligible for the scholarship as per the following:

The candidates admitted to MA will be eligible for the scholarship as per the following:

Thapar University Scholarship- MCA Students

10% of the admitted strength of the MCA course at Thapar University are given scholarships based on their performance in academics. The scholarship amount for the Thapar University MCA is awarded in the second semester based on performance in the first semester. The scholarship amount for the second year will be awarded on the basis of the student’s performance in the first year.

  • Eligibility: The eligible students should not have an AGPA less than 8.00 and should not have any backlog in the year of consideration and must have passed all the courses offered in the semester(s) prior to the year of consideration.
  • Value of Scholarship: INR 40,000 Per Annum

Thapar University Scholarship Eligibility

  1. Only those students will be eligible for the award of Institute merit scholarships who have cleared all the courses prescribed for the respective programme in the year of consideration.
  2. Merit Scholarships-I, Merit Scholarships-II, Merit Scholarships-IV(A), Merit Scholarships-IV(B) of B.E./B.Tech. shall be awarded to the students as per the prescribed criteria in the above table.
  3. Merit Scholarships-III, Merit Scholarships-IV(C) covering 10% of the students’ strength (other than over and above intake) of B.E./B.Tech. shall be awarded every year on the basis of AGPA earned in the preceding year and the criteria mentioned in the above table.
  4. In case a student is upgraded through the December Test in 1st year, he/she will not be eligible for a merit scholarship in 2nd year on the basis of his/her performance in 1st year.
  5. In case an FN/NRI student or IEP student is selected for merit scholarship-III in the second year or subsequent years, he/she will be given award amount as per the tuition fee charged from Indian students of the same batch.
  6. The student who has been awarded a merit scholarship by the Institute is entitled to receive a stipend or any financial assistance from any other source. However, if the student is awarded any stipend or financial assistance from any other source, he shall immediately communicate the same to the Dean of Academic Affairs (DoAA).
  7. There will be no income limit for the guardians/parents of the students for the grant of merit scholarships.
  8. In case a student is eligible for more than one scholarship/free ship, he/she shall be awarded only one scholarship/free ship as per his/her preference.
  9. Merit scholarships will be awarded only if the number of students registered in a discipline/program is at least five.
  10. IEP students whose parent branch is different than the IEP branch, will not be considered for the TIET Merit Scholarship. Only those cases will be considered for Merit scholarships whose parent branch and IEP branch are the same. In case a student returns to his normal course from the IEP course, he may be given the benefit of a scholarship, provided the student will submit an undertaking that if he again goes to the IEP Course, he will return the entire scholarship benefit to the institute. Also, the student will not claim scholarships from previous semesters when he/she was an IEP student.
  11. In case any normal student who has been awarded the scholarship in the 1st and 2nd year joins the IEP course later on, he/ she will have to return the entire scholarship amount back to the institute.

Thapar University Scholarship Selection

  1. The award of merit scholarships for B.E./ B.Tech., LEET, MCA and M.Sc. programs shall be announced every year by the DoAA.
  2. If the student declines (or is not awarded a merit scholarship for certain reasons) it shall be awarded to the next student on the approved list.
  3. The merit scholarships shall be tenable for one academic year.

Thapar University Tie Breaker for the continuation of Scholarship

In case of a tie at AGPA, it shall be broken by considering the number of A+ grades secured by the students during the period under consideration for the calculation of AGPA. If the number of A+ grades secured by students are the same then the tie shall be broken by considering the students’ performance on the basis of CGPA. If the CGPA is also the same, the tie shall be broken using the percentage of marks obtained by the students in all the courses of the last two semesters. If, however, the tie still exists then it will be broken by considering the merit of the entrance examination taken at entry level.

Thapar University Withdrawal of Scholarship

If a recipient of a merit scholarship is found guilty of gross misconduct his/her case after due warning shall be reported by the DoAA for withdrawal of merit scholarship and a decision in this regard will be taken by the Deputy Director.

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology‘Class of 1965’ scholarship Equivalent to the interest generated on the amount donated by the 1965 batch 01 One scholarship, value of INR 50,000 (approx.) per annum will be awarded to BE 3rd year student on the basis of AGPA (minimum 8.00) earned during the 2nd year of study and the merit of the project proposal submitted by the students of Civil / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering. Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology‘Class of 1962 Scholarships” Equivalent to the interest generated on the amount donated to the account by the class of 1962 subject to a maximum of ₹50,000/- each p.a. 04 3 Scholarship will be awarded to BE 2ndyear students (one each from Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) and one Scholarship to BE 3rd-year student of Electrical Engineering on the basis of CGPA (minimum 7.00) earned during the previous year of study and means (students having Gross Family Income ≤INR10.00 lac are eligible to apply). Kanwaljit & Zenaida DhirFamily Scholarship Equivalent to the interest generated on the amount donated to the account by Mr Luthra subject to a maximum of INR 50,000/- p.a. 01 The scholarship will be awarded to BE 4th year female student of Electrical Engineering on the basis of CGPA (minimum 7.00) earned during the 3rd year of study and means (students having Gross Family Income ≤INR 10.00 lac are eligible to apply). Blessed 87Charitable Society Scholarship (Class of 1991) INR 50,000/- per annum 02 One scholarship is to be paid to male and female students each of the 7th Semester (final year) of any stream on merit cum mean basis. Students must be from the Patiala campus. Other details will be displayed in the scholarship notice on the TIET website. Means: Gross Family Income ≤INR 10.00 lac and Merit ≥ 7.0 CGPA after 6th Semester.

Important Notes:

  1. For Government scholarships, students must check their eligibility criteria from the scholarship portal and have to make online registration on the Government Portal. Eligible students after registering on the portal have to submit the application form online on the portal. After applying for the scholarship on the portal, students have to submit a printout of the application form along with a copy of all documents to the Scholarship Section, DOSA office for checking and verification. The institute will forward the cases to the concerned agency after the verification of all documents as per agency guidelines. (depending upon the issuing agency.)
  2. For the Punjab Government Scholarship, students have to check the eligibility conditions and other guidelines of the scheme from the Punjab Government Scholarship Portal (Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Portal) and have to make online registration on the portal. Eligible students after registering on the portal have to submit the application form online on the portal. After applying for the scholarship on the portal, students have to submit a printout of the application form along with a copy of all documents to the Scholarship Section, DOSA office for checking and verification. The institute will forward the cases to the concerned agency after the verification of all documents as per agency guidelines
  3. At least one scholarship for a 3rd-year student out of scholarships at Vinod Luthra, Sudershan Bhateja, Vijay Goel and Shyam Lal Taneja Scholarship (3rd Year Mechanical), Vinod & Vinay Luthra Family Scholarship (3rd Year Civi)l, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology‘Class of 1962 Scholarships” will be awarded to a female engineering student.
  4. No scholarship shall be offered to students admitted/upgraded in the December Test.
  5. Students nominated by the Government of India are also awarded Scholarships by their respective Governments.
  6. A sponsored Industrial House scholarship would also be available.
  7. In case of any change regarding the amount or eligibility for the Government scholarships mentioned in the above table, the latest circular shall be applicable.
  8. For availing of Government scholarships, an Aadhaar-enabled bank account or linking of an existing bank account with an Aadhaar number is required at the time of applying for a scholarship for direct transfer of scholarship amount to the beneficiary, as per the guidelines issued by the Government from time to time.
  9. All the eligible SC/ST, OBC, PwD students etc. should submit their scholarship forms along with all other relevant documents in the Scholarship Section in the DOSA office, after applying online at respective web portals for the academic year on or before the last date of submission of application form. The last date of the scholarships will be displayed on the respective web portal of the concerned scholarship schemes by the Govt. agencies. Students can apply for one scholarship only.
  10. As per the guidelines of the Government agencies, attendance through the Biometric system is mandatory for reserve category students who are eligible for scholarships from these agencies. The location of the Biometric system for taking attendance will be displayed on the notice boards of the Institute.
