IIM Shillong hosts 14th Annual Convocation Ceremony

Date: April 06, 2023

On April 2nd 2023, IIM Shillong conducted its 14th Annual Convocation ceremony, during which five doctoral scholars were awarded PhD degrees. Additionally, the ceremony saw the conferring of MBA degrees to 236 students from the PGP-2021-23 batch, 43 students from the PGPEX batch of 2022-23, 16 students from PGPWE2020-22, and 47 students from the PGPWE2021-23 batch. The PGP-2021-23 batch is a two-year full-time residential program, while the PGPEX batch is a one-year full-time residential program.

During his welcome address, Shri Shishir Kumar Bajoria, the Chairman of the Board of Governors, congratulated the students for their achievements and highlighted the significance of skill development in shaping India's future. He encouraged the students to utilize the knowledge and experiences gained from IIM Shillong to make a positive impact on society. He also mentioned that the students are the products of the "New India," which has attracted 950 billion dollars of foreign direct investment since 1947, with 532 billion dollars received in the past three years alone. He stated that India's growth has been driven from the bottom-up and highlighted that the first trillion-dollar GDP took 67 years, while the second took only 8 years and the third took just 5 years. He further mentioned that India has risen from the 10th largest economy in 2015 to the 5th largest, surpassing countries like Russia, Italy, Brazil, France, and the UK, and is on the brink of overtaking Germany for the fourth position. The Chairman emphasized that 65% of India's GDP is driven by domestic demand, and India is the world's youngest country, with about one billion young Indians whose average age is 29 years. He concluded by stating that the students have a crucial role to play as young Indians in India's growth story.

The event was graced by Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology & Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as the Chief Guest (through virtual mode), and Shri Gaurav Swarup, Co-Chairman & Managing Director of Paharpur Cooling Towers Ltd, as the Guest of Honour.

During his speech at the 14th convocation of IIM Shillong, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his gratitude for being the Chief Guest and congratulated all the graduating students. He acknowledged India's fortune in experiencing remarkable global growth, with initiatives like Digital India contributing to the country's progress. He also highlighted that, unlike other countries such as China and the UK, India continues to thrive and emerge as a global leader. Shri Chandrasekhar strongly believes that India is the country of the decade and urged the students of IIM Shillong to utilize their education to contribute to the country's progress and create a positive impact on society. He further emphasized that New India presents enormous opportunities for young Indians to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals based on their hard work and abilities. Finally, he wished all the graduating students a bright future. The convocation ceremony witnessed the participation of 238 students, who received job offers from 63 recruiters across various fields, including Consulting & Strategy, Finance, General Management, Human Resources & Operations, IT & Analytics, and Sales & Marketing.IIM Shillong has reason to celebrate as the graduating PGP batch achieved impressive results, with a gender makeup equally split between 45% females and 55% males. The average CTC of 26.96 LPA reflects the high quality of education and training provided by the institute, while the median CTC of 26.09 LPA indicates that the majority of students secured strong job placements. Additionally, the highest CTC of 71.30 LPA is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the caliber of the students and the institute's network and partnerships. Overall, the graduating students of the PGP batch at IIM Shillong have accomplished a great deal, and the institute should be commended for its role in their success.

At the conclusion of the convocation ceremony, the graduating scholars and students, led by their respective program chairs, took a Pledge that instilled in them a sense of pride and accomplishment. This Pledge serves as a reminder of their achievements and inspires them to make their mark in the corporate world, armed with the skills and knowledge imparted by IIM Shillong. It's great to see such a strong sense of commitment among the graduating students, and the Pledge is a fitting way to mark the end of their academic journey and the beginning of their professional careers.


Indian Institute of Management Shillong hosts Business Leadership Summit x Learning on the Green Turf

Shillong, India. 7th March 2023 Indian Institute of Management Shillong organized Business Leadership Summit x Learning on the Green Turf. Business Leadership Summit (BLS) is the annual flagship event of IIM Shillong. It hosts industry stalwarts across domains, including Consulting, Finance, Marketing, Systems & Analytics, Human Resources, and Operations. The event is a joint effort by various clubs and committees of the institute, and the sessions conducted are enthralling and cover the latest, most important industry trends. The theme for this year’s event was “Youth, Managerial Competence and National Growth”.

The event began with an Inauguration Ceremony on the 4th of March, with Mr. Dhruv Sharma, Senior Economist at World Bank, and Ms. Dhuwarakha Sriram, Chief of Generation Unlimited, Youth Development and Partnerships at UNICEF India, as the Keynote Speakers. They covered essential topics on Indian economic conditions and the development of opportunities for the Youth of the Nation for better growth and success of the Nation. Day 1 saw Panel Discussions across Marketing, Systems & Analytics, and Human Resources domains. The Marketing Panel had Divya Karani, Board Director, CEO Media South Asia at Dentsu; Shardul Bist, Head – Marketing (FMCG – Nutrifix/Sebamed) at Mother Dairy; Esha Arora, SVP Marketing at Info Edge India Ltd and Rohit Lamba, VP Sales and Marketing, Head - Branding at Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. Prof. Guhesh Ramanathan was the Panel Moderator. The students witnessed an intriguing discussion on digitization, generational changes, and the steps to take if a campaign goes wrong. For the Systems and Analytics panel, the speakers were Vivek Sahabadi, Head of Data and Analytics at Navi; Swati Jain, Vice President of Analytics at EXL; Nitin Gupta, Senior Director, Head – Enterprise Analytics, Data and AI at VISA and Hardik Somani, COO and Co-Founder at Sapio Analytics. Prof. Basav Roychoudhury was the Panel Moderator. The theme for this discussion was around insights and growth of AI, biases that could come up as AI continues to grow, and skill development of individuals in the field. The HR panel had eminent speakers like Anuja Ghosh, Head HR at SBICAP Ventures Ltd; Ganesh S, CHRO at Emeritus and Eruditus; Sajjad Ahmed, Senior Director HR at Capgemini; Vikram Mhaske, CHRO|Director HR, Legal Affairs and EHS at Rheinmetall and Venkat Sundaram, VP Learning and Development at SAR Group (Livpure, Livguard). Prof. Sitanshu Sekhar Das moderated the discussion, which focused on how organizations today enhance employee experience.

Day 2 started on a solid note with the Consulting Panel. The speakers were Tushar Chakraborty, Director at Deloitte India; Nilabha Dey, Director at KPMG India; Suraj Prasad, Senior Director at IQVIA; Anupam Dutta, Startup Advisor and Ex-Partner at PwC and KB Unni, Senior Advisor and Partner at an Independent Consulting Firm, Ex-SVP & CTO at McKinsey. Prof. Parijat Upadhyay was the Moderator for the session. The Panel discussed transformation, digital disruption, and reasons to join Consulting in a rapidly growing India. The Operations panel had Reena Evans, Director of Operations at Swiggy; Anish Azeez, Head of Logistics Operations at Sterlite Technologies Ltd; Abhilekh Suryavanshi, South Asia Regional Transportation and Logistics Head at Cargill and Ranjan Sinha, Senior Project Manager at Envision Enterprise Solution America Inc. For this session, Prof. Rohit Joshi was the Moderator. The insightful discussion focused on technology and human capital in the Indian Context in this domain and the impact of COVID-19 on the entire sector. For the last panel discussion of BLS 2023, the Finance panel took to the stage. The speakers for this session were Sanjiv Bhasin, Director at IIFL Securities Ltd; Tirthankar Patnaik, Chief Economist at NSE India Ltd; Vivek Mavani, Owner of Vivek Mavani Financial Services and Prof. Sharad Nath Bhattacharya. Neil Borate, Deputy Editor and Head of Personal Finance at LiveMint, moderated the panel discussion. The panelists exchanged ideas on moving from conventional to unconventional finance in the modern economy, and the students gained thorough insights.

The two-day event helped broaden the minds of the young, aspiring managers who will be the future of our Nation. Experts from all domains brought excellent ideas to the stage and led thought-provoking discussions, making the Business Leadership Summit 2023 a grand success.

G20 Side Events on “Climate Finance” under Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG)

February 3, 2023, IIM Shillong, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis is hosting, G20 side events on "Climate Finance" under the Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) in collaboration with Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and North Eastern Council (NEC) Shillong. The event is planned to be scheduled over two technical sessions. “Mobilization of Financial Resources for Climate Action” is the theme of the first session, and "Financing for Early Stage Climate Technology: Challenges and Way Forward" shall be the focus of the second session.

Indian Institute of Management Shillong launches its student-run investment fund

26th December 2022, Shillong: Niveshak, the Finance and Investment Club of the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, has completed the first round of funding for their student-run investment fund, the Niveshak Investment Fund (NIF), a diversified equity portfolio that aims for growth through a focused and optimally diversified portfolio strategy. The fund's primary objective is to practice, implement and apply classroom learning and education to build security analysis, portfolio management, and business valuation skills while comprehensively understanding the risks associated with the investment into the capital markets.

NIF will open doors for students to be investors and get involved in learning more about the practical aspects of the stock market.

For the students managing the fund, it will be an opportunity to get hands-on experience in fund management and apply the concepts learned during the rigorous MBA program.

The presence of faculties and students graced the Niveshak Investment Fund launch. During the fund launch, Prof. Sharad Nath Bhattacharya, IIM Shillong, said, "I have a vision that this fund will grow to have different branches- social ventures and different kinds of theme-based investments, which can possibly prompt more students to contribute to the fund and make it more inclusive, along with providing them an avenue to apply their classroom learnings."

Niveshak Investment Fund raised a whooping ₹12.5+ lakhs in the first round of fund collection with 230+ investors, crossing a corpus of ₹14 lakhs. For the fund, it is the first time they have raised investments from the vast community of IIM Shillong.

IIM Shillong and Clark University Sign MoU: Student Exchange & Collaborative Research on the Cards

Shillong, 12th December 2022: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIM Shillong and Clark University, USA, was signed to promote student exchange programmes. The scope of the MoU also covers sharing of academic research, faculty, and professional staff members, between the two institutions.

Dr. Alan Eisner, Dean and Professor, School of Management, Clark University, and Mr. Jayantanuj Das, Graduate Admissions Counsellor, Clark University, visited IIM Shillong to sign the MoU. 

Prof. DP Goyal said “the collaboration between IIM Shillong and Clark University, USA would give IIM Shillong students access to international research and study opportunities as well as international job placements. It will assist in raising the institution's profile in the worldwide market, boost the calibre of students at IIM-Shillong, and attract more foreign companies for hiring IIM-Shillong pass-outs. The collaboration's objective is to provide participants with the information they need to adopt an outcome-based learning method, which will teach them how to start, run, and grow their enterprises in the real world.”

This MoU, and the many others signed till date, will give faculty and learners at IIM-Shillong increased opportunities for travelling to, and working and studying in globally-reputed management institutes. This is one of the numerous advantages of internationalising higher education in India, along with language training, orientations and preparatory courses, collaborative research projects, information sharing about conferences and workshops, and mutual support. Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Inaugurates IIM Shillong's New Campus

Shillong, December 18, 2022: Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. IIM Shillong was established by the then Ministry of HRD (Now Ministry of Education) as the 7th IIM, that could establish itself as an Institute of National Importance and had been serving in many ways for the development of the North Eastern Region besides being known for its academic prudence in management education. 

The State-of-the-art infrastructure in its new campus will have facilities that will open up many opportunities for hosting academic programs for both national and international students and management development engagements. 

IIM Shillong’s Knowledge Centre in the new campus will be one of the most fully-automated libraries in India, with more than 40 databases accessible to students, scholars and faculty members as E-resources. It will also provide access to students, faculty, and local policymakers and bureaucrats to more than 17,000 E-journals. The campus will also provide high-speed internet access via optical-fibres, and will have sports and recreation centres, such as football and cricket grounds, and basketball courts.

Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his speech, expressed that "Professional institutions like IIM Shillong will be beneficial for NE region. The presence of such institutions will make way for ways and means of livelihood".

Shri Shishir Kumar Bajoria, Chairman Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, said on the occasion 

“Today is a historic day for IIM Shillong as the honourable prime minister inaugurates the 120-acre new campus. Because nature and education go hand in hand, the campus—known as the campus in the cloud - is located in the lap of nature and offers education at its finest."

Prof. DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong, said on the occasion, “I thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for gracing the occasion with his presence and inaugurating our New Campus. I on behalf of IIM Shillong fraternity am extremely grateful, to our Hon’ble PM for mentioning about IIM Shillong and how it can contribute for the development of the NE region, which was an inspiration for us to work even harder. IIM Shillong is a think-tank, that serves the entire north-eastern region in addition to being a business school. This New campus will enable us to enrol more students, do more research, and work harder and more efficiently to achieve the prosperity on India's North-Eastern states, an aim that is very high on the Hon'ble PM's priority list."

With a vision of integrated perspective of research and academic capabilities, envisioned by our hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji in the Global VAIBHAV summit 2020, IIM Shillong signed MOUs with 16 International universities and shall be working towards global collaborations. 

Established in 2007, as the 7th IIM and starting its 1st Academic program on 4th July 2008, with an objective to offer world-class Management Education and Research in the country. The mandate of the Institute is to impart all-around education to meet the demand for well-trained, high-caliber, innovative, socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and compassionate management professionals.

With 63 students enrolled in the Post-Graduate Programme (PGP) in 2008 IIM Shillong has grown to enroll 309 students and produce over 2,500 graduates now working for prominent companies all over the world. IIM Shillong Inaugurated 15-Day Pakhwada on Women’s Rights with the Theme – “Building Relationships with Respect and Dignity”

The session will feature leaders from industry, government, and society who will examine various ways and means for eradicating discrimination against women.

Shillong, November 25, 2022: IIM Shillong today launched its Discrimination Against Women Pakhwada with the theme, Inclusion: Building Relationships with Respect and Dignity. It is a 15-day event that will be held from November 25 to December 10.

Worldwide, laws and regulations ensuring women’s rights have been enacted, but much still needs to be done. 

The inaugural ceremony started by Prof. Vishakha Bansal, Presiding Officer, Internal Complaints Committee welcoming the chief guest and in her welcome speech, she told the audience about the context in which theme of the Pakhwada was decided on. Speaking on the theme, Prof Bansal said how any relationship between men and women have to be based on a solid foundation of mutual respect and dignity.

The inauguration ceremony of the event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Smt. Idashisha Nongrang, IPS, Director General, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Shillong, Meghalaya, who inaugurated the Pakhwada. In her inaugural speech, Smt. Nongrang spoke about how society and societal values play on the minds of people and are a critical factor in mainstreaming of women. 

Smt. Nongrang continued that people’s thoughts have to be positive and accept the inclusiveness of women, which will result in true women empowerment. She informed the audience that India currently has 56 statutes to bring about and further strengthen women empowerment. She also suggested that everyone should be aware about these statutes, which will then educate people on women’s rights.

Prof. DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong, addressed the gathering at the inaugural ceremony and put forth his thoughts on how women are today contributing in all spheres of life and at all levels. He said that IIM Shillong, in collaboration with the Government of India, has started a number of programmes to empower women. 

The audience at the ceremony also watched a video on women’s empowerment initiative in IIM Shillong. A vote of thanks was then presented by Ms Golda L Saiborne, Member, Internal Complaints Committee at IIM Shillong at the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony.

SUSCON IX – IIM Shillong Concludes the International Conference on Sustainability

The conference—one of the primary ones in the country to set the agenda of sustainability—has been graced in the past by towering figures such as Bharat Ratna Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, Padma Bhushan Dr. Sundarlal Bahuguna, Jadab Payeng, the Indian Forest Man, and Dasho Karma Ura, president of the Centre for Bhutan Studies and the Gross National Happiness (GNH) Research.

November 11th, 2022, Shillong: SUSCON, the IIM Shillong's flagship event, is more than just a conference or academic initiative; it is a movement that has created a forum for conversations and debates on sustainability at the local, national and international levels.

Collaboration, Compassion, and Co-Creation was the conference's topic this year. Over the course of three days, eminent speakers presented their knowledge, experiences, and views on this theme. Out of the roughly 150 papers that were received, 41 papers were chosen. 48 participants delivered papers at the conference on the following sub-themes:

In his welcome speech during the opening ceremony, Prof. DP Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, emphasized that the conference would provide a forum for discussions on sustainability. Dr. Mrityunjay Athreya, a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, spoke on the topic of "Our Shared Global Sustainability Dharma" and emphasized the importance of addressing the global crisis of climate change while proposing two workable solutions, namely climate compensatory funding and green technology. Shri Dasho Karma Ura, the president of the Centre for Bhutan Studies and Gross National Happiness Research (Thimphu, Bhutan), offered an alternative viewpoint on sustainability by fusing it with concepts from Buddhism while referring to general happiness. On the other hand, Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, an Indian conservation biologist, emphasized the necessity of planning development operations in a sustainable manner.

Prof. Sanjeeb Kakoty, the chairperson of Suscon IX, expressed his concerns about the growing exploitation of resources and inequality in their distribution and noted that SUSCON is a platform where people from different specializations come to find solutions to various ecological concerns. Another Chairperson, Prof. Sanjoy Mukherjee, also described SUSCON as a movement dedicated to the cause and spirit of sustainability.

Major Indian PSUs GAIL (India) Limited and State Bank of India (SBI) supported the conference as conference partners, while the Centre for Bhutan Studies and the Gross National Happiness (GNH) Research, the Council of Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), the European Spirituality in Economics and Society (SPES) Institute, and the Council of Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) supported the conference as knowledge partners and Springer Nature supported the conference as the publishing partner.

Shillong, 13th October 2022: The Indian Institute of Management Shillong is geared up to organise the mega symposia Series on “Improving Mobility in Shillong” between 14th to 26th October 2022.

The intent of the symposia series is to come up with feasible and positive long-term solutions for traffic management in Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong.

During the 13-days long brainstorming symposia series, detailed discussions will be held on traffic management and along with eminent keynote speakers and intellectuals from different range of sectors, the various departments of the government of Meghalaya will also be participating to bring out the solution to the long pending ordeal of congestion everyone faces every day.

3rd November 2022, Shillong: In keeping with the institute's mission of sustainable development, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong inaugurated its ninth edition of the three-day International Conference on Sustainability, also known as SUSCON IX today on November 3, 2022. The conference is being held in hybrid mode with participants from all around the world attending online and from within the campus.

To advance a holistic developmental paradigm, the theme of SUSCON this year is "Collaboration, Compassion and Co-Creation". The goal of SUSCON is: “to bring together the brightest minds working on sustainability from across the world.”

Participants in the event will engage with some of the conference's renowned speakers. They will actively engage in contemporary concerns while using a variety of viewpoints to explore fresh interpretations, applications, and evaluations of sustainability. They will also have the chance to actively support sustainability in and beyond their immediate contexts.

Prof. DP Goyal, Director IIM Shillong in his welcome address mentioned that the conference will provide a platform for deliberations on sustainability as a form of celebration of the country's progress.

Chief Guest Padma Bhushan Dr. Mrityunjay Athreya Globally renowned Management Thinker, Educator and Consultant attended the conference online as did Guest of Honour Shri Dasho Karma Ura, President of the Centre for Bhutan Studies and Gross National Happiness Research (Thimphu, Bhutan). Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Indian conservation biologist and Founder and CEO of Aaranyak, Special Guest, was present at IIM Shillong. The event was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by all the present dignitaries. 

Dr. Athreya, in his address, spoke on the topic ‘Our Shared Global Sustainability Dharma’ and shared his insights through a Powerpoint Presentation. Speaking about the need to combat the global crisis of climate change, he suggested two feasible solutions, namely Climate Compensatory Funding and Green Technology which can be adopted by various countries for a sustainable future. He stressed the need for the world to come together as one, as solving the problem of climate change is not a national or regional but a global issue.

The Guest of Honour Shri Dasho Karma Ura, President, Centre for Bhutan Studies & GNH Research Bhutan, provide a different perspective on sustainability by combining it with Buddhism and spoke in detail about this relationship while referring to happiness in general. 

Dr. Talukdar speaking from his experience of wildlife management stressed the need to plan developmental activities in a manner that is less hazardous to the environment, which in turn can solve many local and global environmental issues. 

Prof. Sanjoy Mukherjee, IIM Shillong faculty and Chairperson of SUSCON in his speech said that SUSCON is a movement and a commitment to the cause and spirit of sustainability. Prof. Sanjeeb Kakoty mentioned that SUSCON is a platform where people from different specializations come to find solutions to various environmental problems. 

The inaugural session was followed by a paper presentation session which witnessed the presence of keynote speakers like Prof. Tan Sri Dzulfikli Abdul Razak, Rector, International Islamic University, Malaysia, Prof. Laszlo Zsolnai, President - European SPES Institute Professor and Head, Business Ethics Center, Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary and Prof. Ove Daniel Jacobsen Professor of Ecological Economics Business School Nord University, Bodo, Norway. The three-day conference in the next 3 days will witness a series of technical sessions and paper presentations circling the theme of sustainability. The conference is being held with the support of conference partners GAIL (India) Limited and the State Bank of India (SBI). IIM Shillong Hosts EmergE– The Annual Entrepreneurship Summit 2022

31 OCTOBER 2022, Shillong: IIM Shillong’s Students hosted the annual Flagship entrepreneurship summit – EmergE 2022, on October 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday), 2022. 

This year’s event, themed on ‘Harnessing E-Dreams’, was held entirely offline, after a gap of two years. The event included speaker sessions, workshops and business case competitions in the fields of Marketing, Finance, Analytics and more.

Harnessing the Entrepreneurial spirit was the theme of the event. The chief guest of the event was Mr. Shivansh Awasthi - IAS Officer in charge of PRIME Meghalaya. The Diya lighting ceremony inaugurated the 2-day event. At the inauguration ceremony, Professor Sanjoy Mukherjee gave a brief inaugural speech on the 7 mantras every budding entrepreneur should follow to be successful. Professor Rohit Dwivedi focused on thinking about start-ups in a new way in his inaugural speech.

The panel discussion was then started by founder of ALSiSAR Impact, Anuj Sharma, co-founder of BrightBlu, Santosh Ram Somasundaram, programme head of PRIME Meghalaya, Flo Oberhofer, and managing director of Kolkata Ventures, Avelo Roy who talked about the need for long-term social projects in the Indian economy was highlighted during a panel discussion on "Channeling Entrepreneurship". They all spoke about their own entrepreneurial experiences. They talked about starting a business, identifying interests, what goods could be marketed, what difficulties the idea could solve, how to put together a team of investors and co-founders, and other issues. Discussions around topics like privilege v/s intelligence, equality and equity, and the social duties of budding entrepreneurs also took place.

The co-founder of Ninjacart, Mr. Sharath Loganathan, and Mr. Avelo Roy, managing director of Kolkata Ventures, serial tech entrepreneur, investor, and TV host, discussed how having an idea is not enough but the logistics and technicalities are also important. Every beginning presents a chance for learning. The two-day conference not only helped students by sharing their knowledge, but also provided businesses, investors, and entrepreneurship enthusiasts with a forum to connect and advance the overall objective of advancing the start-up culture in India. Initiatives should be started to promote entrepreneurship and impart entrepreneurial skills in order to support aspiring student entrepreneurs.

On the second day of EmergE, participants from top B-Schools got the chance to put themselves in the shoes of Entrepreneurs and the investors, and understand sense of entrepreneurial decisions and the challenges. Jitender Sharma, Founder & CEO of HairOriginals, Jash Shah, Co-founder & CEO of Get-a-whey, Ravi Kabra, Co-founder, CEO of Skippi Icepops were in the judgement panel. 

Overall, the event saw the enthusiastic participation of students and aspiring budding entrepreneurs who helped make it a success and benefited from the chance to present their ideas to investors and learn from the experience of industry leaders. Tyngkai Cultural and Welfare Organization organised a major cultural event where about 25 artists performed various folk forms of India's North Eastern region.

20th August 2022, Shillong The annual alumni reunion of the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, (IIM-S), Melange 2022, will be held at the institute's Nongthymmai and Umsawli Campus from Saturday 20th August to Sunday 21st August 2022.

Melange 2022’ will feature a host of ice-breaking campus events (like Mock Kopda, God Sellers, Hark Back) and other interactive sessions based on different career verticals to facilitate conversations between the alumni and current students.

The Melange 2022 is being conducted in the wake of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong’s belief in being connected with its students even after they graduate. While the institute has been conducting annual reunions for the alumni of its flagship MBA program, this time IIM Shillong will conduct the same for the students who graduated from it's Post Graduate Program as well as the Post Graduate Program for Executives.

28th August 2022, Shillong. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, IIM Shillong, and Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), Government of Mizoram on Friday (26 Aug 2022) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance human resource development in the state of Mizoram by helping organizations to create curricula, plan courses, and build capability.

The agreement was signed at Aizawl between Prof. DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong, and Dr. Vanlaltanpuia, MLA, Chairman of the MYC in the presence of Mr. Atul Kulkarni, member BOG, IIM Shillong, Zothantluanga, MLA, Vice chairman, Manpower Development Board; R Lalramnghaka, IAS Secy Higher & Technical Education; Chingthanmawii, Deputy Adviser, Planning Department

Following the agreement, a meeting was set up at which the team had a meeting with Shri Zoramthanga, the Honorable Chief Minister of Mizoram.

Mr. Atul Kulkarni, member BOG, IIM Shillong said, “We need to look at the aspirations of the youth, job market and equip youths. We need to stress on Entrepreneurship. The IIM Shillong will help build the groundwork and serve as a catalyst for focused research and decision-making with regard to skill development within the larger economic framework.”

IIM Shillong as a Research and Policy Knowledge Partner by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mizoram Youth Council (MYC), the Government of Mizoram, aims to support Mizoram's human resource development, assist the government of Mizoram and MYC in particular in identifying skill gaps, offer capacity-building programs for government employees, and support Mizoram's economic development by encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship in promising industries.

Describing the MoU as a far-sighted approach Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong said, “By working together with the Government of Mizoram, IIM Shillong (Dr. Kalam Centre) hopes to develop value-added skills in Mizo youth and encourage them to be competent and entrepreneurial. It also hopes to develop a framework for effective and result-driven youth empowerment, particularly in the areas of management development, entrepreneurship development, and capacity building programs.”

Prof. Goyal further said “IIM Shillong is dedicated to fostering cutting-edge knowledge, a vision of expansion, and the mobilization of infrastructure for providing high-quality management education and research in the North Eastern area of India, it is a great pleasure to be cooperating with (MYC), Government of Mizoram.”

The Mizoram Youth Commission was set up by an Act of the Mizoram State Legislature. It has been given legal authority to advance, investigate, and improve youth welfare. The Commission focuses its efforts on offering coaching to the All-India Services and Allied Services, State Services and job placements, Skill training and vocational courses, employment generation, and other youth programs.

Shillong, 3rd Sept 2022: The Centre for Development of the North Eastern Region (CeDNER), IIM Shillong, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, is offering a 40-hour weekend online certificate course for aspiring North Eastern Region women entrepreneurs. The course commenced from 03-09-2022 and will continue till 16-10-2022 conducting every Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Sanjeev Ningombam, Convener of CeDNER, IIM Shillong highlighted the initiatives taken under CeDNER on the areas of promoting livelihood, entrepreneurship, community development etc. He outlined the design and structure of the course. Shri Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Secretary of National Commission for Women on his inaugural address mentioned various initiatives taken by NCW for development of women of India. This course is aimed at motivating women of north east to take up entrepreneurship and to train business models, tools and strategies. Smt. Kanchan Khattar, Legal Advisor of NCW mentioned about the special interest of Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi ji’s vision of empowering women of India. She encouraged participants to make the best benefit from this course that is offered from the best B-School of the region. The course will have sessions of Organisation Behaviour, Marketing strategies, Innovation, Startups, raising finance, Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Business models, Experiential learning, Case studies etc. The course will be taught by experienced faculty of IIM Shillong and Successful women entrepreneurs of North East. 

The Certification Program for Women will offer personal and professional development opportunities with a focus on management practises, growth opportunities, the development of effective leadership skills, and support through formal mentoring on the business idea and peer networking.

The Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CeDNER) formerly known as The Accelerated Learning Centre (ALC), of the Indian Institute of Management Shillong has been constituted right from the inception of the Institute and is involved in organizing both short term and long-term programmes relevant to the local community and society of the state and the region. 

In an earlier interview, Dr. DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong, said, “Collaboration between IIM Shillong and the National Commission for Women not only aims to accelerate efforts to promote women entrepreneurship but also build confidence among the women entrepreneurs from both urban and rural areas. NCW will be sponsoring the course, which will be delivered by IIM Shillong faculty to all selected participants. The course is designed to assist aspiring female entrepreneurs in launching their own businesses while learning from the eminent faculty at IIM Shillong. While being mentored, participants will work on developing a business plan and will present their entrepreneurship dynamics to the mentors.”

Professor Goyal further commented, “Our vision is to organize this one-of-a-kind opportunity for young entrepreneurs, businessmen and women, business executives, and officers from the region to take advantage of training in skill development at various stages of their business and entrepreneurial activity.”

The National Commission for Women was established as a statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 (Act No. 20 of 1990 of the Government of India) to assess legal and constitutional protections for women, suggest corrective legislation, make it easier to resolve grievances, and advise the government on all policy issues affecting women.

26th August 2022, ShillongThe Indian Institute of Management, Shillong formally concluded its 2nd Edition of the virtual International Marketing Conference (IMarC) 2022 today. The two-day conference was preceded by a two-day workshop, that gave the research scholars a great opportunity to connect with and learn from some of the greatest researchers in the world. 

Prof DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong opened the session, and Prof. Subhadip Roy, IIM Ahmedabad delivered the keynote address in the inaugural ceremony held on August 24th, 2022. The Chief Guest on the 2nd day of the conference, Prof. Nripendra Rana, Professor, College of Business and Economics, Qatar University delivered the Valedictory Speech.

Speaking at the event Prof. Subhadip Roy said, Developing countries like India are emerging as major contributors to the global industry's rapid growth. In this situation, the factors that affect inclusive marketing are of particular interest to academics, researchers, and marketers.”

Prof. Roy continued to explain that “the Conceptual, quantitative and qualitative survey-based, qualitative experimental, and quantitative secondary data, that should all be used in research. The goal of this study is to integrate ideas from information systems and marketing research into a framework of varied economics, society, and culture.”

The conference was a participatory event. Students and scholars from all throughout the nation delivered papers during the conference. There was discussion on a wide range of subjects like Inclusive Marketing, Contextual Research, The Efficacy of Customer Relationship Management, Digital Marketing, Brand Orientation, Contemporary Research in Marketing and many more. 

Prof. DP Goyal, Director IIM Shillong said, “the conference aims to explore what has driven productivity, economic integration, migration, employment, and living standards. We must prioritize each person's needs while adopting an all-inclusive strategy. Whether we simply need to grow or diversify should be clear to us”.

In order to comprehend the bigger problem that the service is aiming to address, he proceeded to stress the importance of contextual research and observation. 

“While elaborating on the importance of research and the three "I"s of innovation, inclusion, and integration he explained that consumers, practitioners, and other stakeholders should be aware of the standards for the research”, he further said.

Mr. Sushant Kumar from IIM Raipur won the IMarC 2022 Best Paper Award for the paper titled “We trust you! Role of non-coercive power of shaping trust in channel relationship”. 

In addition to extending a warm welcome, Prof. Nripendra Rana, College of Business and Economics at Qatar University, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the educational conference that examined the many facets of the contemporary and multidimensional era. 

Prof. Rana continued by saying that one should never stop working because every task completed would eventually be recorded in a journal.

This conference intended to bring together research scholars and academicians to examine unique viewpoints that can assess the processes that will support futuristic ideas with an ethical and inclusive lens in order to continue highlighting the need for equality and relevance.

22nd August 2022, Shillong. IIM Shillong alumni gathered to launch "Melange 2022," a two-day alumni reunion event that took place from Saturday, August 20th to Sunday, August 21st, 2022.

The Alumni committee successfully hosted the Alumni Meet, where alumni across batches gathered to celebrate and remember their time as students at IIM Shillong, as well as to honour long-lasting friendships. Many people recounted their entrepreneurial and corporate journeys, while basking in their occasional nostalgia.

IIM Shillong's Alumni Relations Committee thanked Prof. DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong for enabling them to organise the event and for his ongoing support and direction in creating such a memorable evening.

Several alumni attended the event and shared their memories of their time at the college. Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong believes in staying in touch with its students even after they graduate. While the institute in the past years held annual reunions in different cities for the alumni, this time IIM Shillong hosted the alumni meet at the institute's old campus. 

Professor DP Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong, cherished the nostalgic moment while welcoming the alumni. He stated that students are the heart of the institute and will remain so even after their graduation. They represent the institute everywhere they go.

"IIM Shillong is a family, it values each stakeholder's contribution to the institute equally. As alumni, students play an important role in this because they add value to the institute by fusing their professional experiences and contributing to the growth of the institute. According to Professor Goyal, if students are progressing, IIM Shillong is progressing. 

A special cultural evening was organised for the alumni at the Orchid Resort at Mawkasiang where the alumni once again mingled with their batchmates, the faculty and other alumni. All faculty members collaborated to make the event a success.

The conference will be preceded by a two-day virtual pre-conference workshop on August 22nd and 23rd, 2022. The Workshop will focus on SLR and Meta-Analysis, Basics of Confirmatory Factor Analysis & SEM, CFA and SEM in R using Lavaan, Qualitative Analysis to provide a platform to share knowledge and to enlighten about novel advancements.

The conference will feature many distinguished academicians, researchers, scholars as well as representatives from the industry and start-up firms. Prof. Subhadip Roy (IIM Ahmedabad), Prof. Bipul Kumar (IIM Indore) and Prof. Biswajita Parida (IIT Delhi) among others will grace the occasion. Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, successfully inaugurated its ongoing Business Management Certificate program for Defence Officers on Friday 5th August 2022 at the IIM Shillong campus. In order to reduce the knowledge-action gap and manage the altering dynamics of the military and commercial sectors, the 6-month Certificate program intends to give the executives a thorough business management exposure to analytical, strategic, and entrepreneurial thinking.

The inaugural ceremony started with an address note by Prof. Vibhas Amawate, Chair, MDP & Consultancy, on an auspicious note with the invocation and lighting of the lamp. 

Following this, the ceremony was addressed by the Chief Guest, Air Marshal Dilip Kumar Patnaik, AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding in Chief (AOC-in C), Eastern Air Command with his auspicious Keynote.

Air Marshal Dilip Kumar Patnaik, AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding in Chief (AOC in C), Eastern Air Command, “while sharing his own experience of imparting executive learning, told the participants that this is a great opportunity to further their education from IIM Shillong while working in the defence. In order to become leaders, he advised participants to learn by giving their best shot and to adopt different worldviews. 

 He continued, that a happy worker is a performing worker and the "FAUJ" is a very different area in itself from the corporate world. In order to learn it is important that they unlearn what they already know in order to absorb the information, the faculty exposes them to. Studying at IIM Shillong in very pleasant weather has special advantages. He went on to describe how the program appeals to defence authorities, exposes learners to challenging real-world business scenarios from a variety of industries, organizations, and management specializations, and is beneficial for the country by relying on information from IIM Shillong.”

Through interactive lectures, case studies, sessions with industry experts, management games, simulations, and student participation, the course seeks to emphasize experiential learning to the Indian Defence Forces, which are among the best in the world and are recognized for their competence, prowess, morality, size, and technology. 

Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director, IIM Shillong explainedhow the program is appealing to defence officers. This program will build on the skills defence officials already possess as a result of their years of excellent service to the nation, allowing them to utilize the classroom activities and interact with peers to further enhance their skills. The program offers an opportunity to update and refresh one's skills using the newest, quickly developing technologies. It is a specialized curriculum designed to equip defence commanders with the skills, knowledge, and understanding needed for a seamless transfer into the business world. Dr. Goyal stressed to everyone in attendance that they should approach the six-month course like students, without taking into account their respective positions or titles and try to understand and learn from one another. He continued, "IIM Shillong provides a variety of methods by deliberately blending lectures, case studies, discussions, group projects, field trips, reading, and discussions."

Prof. Sitanshu Sekhar Das, Program Coordinator, BMPDO delivered the closing address with a vote of thanks and the ceremony was concluded.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis of IIM Shillong organised the 2022 edition of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam annual lecture series to commemorate the 7th death anniversary of the late former president, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. 

Former chairman of ISRO Mr. AS Kiran Kumar and Dr. SP Aggarwal, Director, North Eastern Space Application Centre were virtually present to pay homage to Dr. Kalam.

Mr. AS Kiran Kumar, Scientist and former chairman of ISRO during his lecture on the topic 'ISRO's Space Journey: A Saga of Innovation and Delivery' said, “Dr. Kalam worked and contributed to the development of the Indian Space Research Organisation. He believed in the capability of science & technology to address the specific problems the country faces. He took up a drive to visit a range of places to meet and inspire almost one crore students across the country. During his interaction with the students, he used to share about his work and the ways India needs to grapple with the problems.”

Mr. Kumar further shared that Dr. Kalam had always wanted and encouraged individuals to be self-reliant. He said, “Dr. Kalam outlined his vision and listed the various in which India needed to develop core competencies, including agriculture and food processing; education and healthcare; ICT; infrastructure; dependable and high-quality electricity; surface transportation for the entire nation; and self-reliance in key technologies. Also, he shared how science and technology allowed us to explore the solar happenings we could also discover the Sputnik Orbit path with Science.”

While concluding his speech, Mr. Kumar said, “Mindful and innovative use of accessible technologies to address social problems is needed.” 

 Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam had always believed in the value of knowledge, critical thinking, and, most importantly, self-belief. The Missile Man of India exemplified India's greatest qualities by blending various cultures, disciplines, and people to create a life story that motivated 1.4 billion Indians.

The Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CeDNER), IIM Shillong in association with the National Commission for Women is organizing a 60 hours Real-time (Online) Certificate Program in General Management for aspiring women entrepreneurs of the North Eastern Region (NER).

The Centre for Development of North Eastern Region (CeDNER), of the Indian Institute of Management Shillong, was established from the very beginning of the Institute and is responsible for organizing a unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs, businessmen and women, business executives, and officers of the region to avail of the opportunities of training in skill development in various phases of their business and entrepreneurial activity.

Collaboration between IIM Shillong and the National Commission for Women will not only fast-pace the efforts to uplift women entrepreneurship but will also give confidence to the women coming from urban, as well as the rural region. The Master Class will commence on weekends from 03/09/22 to 16/10/22, and applications are being accepted from 15 July 2022 till 12 August 2022. At the end of the course, students will be awarded a Course Certificate from IIM Shillong.

The National Commission for Women was set up as a statutory body in January 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990 ( Act No. 20 of 1990 of Govt. of India ) to assess the legal and constitutional protections for women, suggest corrective legislation, make it easier for grievances to be resolved, and offer the government advice on all issues of policy that impact women.

The Collaboration aims to foster cooperation, exchange of scholars, and the sharing of best practices in management, educational psychology, research, and instructive leadership.

IIM Shillong and EADA Business School signed an agreement on 11th July, 2022 at Barcelona, Spain by which the two institutions formalized the commitment to permit the exchange of scholars, professional staff members, students, and academic information between the two institutions.

The collaboration will benefit both current and future IIM Shillong students by facilitating international exposure, particularly for PGP and PGPEx students, and will encourage cooperation between the two institutions for academic advancement and innovations.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, and the ALBA Graduate Business School, Athens has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14th July 2022 to work together on faculty and student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and other academic and scientific endeavors. Prof. DP Goyal, Director IIM Shillong and Dean and Professor Kostas Axarloglou, ALBA Graduate Business School, Athens, signed the MoU.

The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong hosted the commencement ceremony where 309 post-graduate programme (PGP) in management (2022–24), 5 Ph.D., and 11 Ph.D. Working Professionals were enrolled.

The First Director of IIM Shillong, Prof. Ashoke K. Dutta was invited as Special Guest who expressed his satisfaction in making his dreams come true.

With the invocation address, the ceremony was graced and followed by the welcome address by Director, IIM Shillong Prof D P Goyal.

Dr. Anurag Batra, made an insightful and engaging speech while addressing the students about pursuing entrepreneurship by sharing their previous academic and professional experiences. He emphasised the value of time in life once more. He thinks that time is our most potent weapon. Dr. Batra concluded his discussion of the difficulties and secrets of success in the business world by wishing everyone luck and urging them to make the most of their life.

Addressing the graduates, Prof. Ashoke K. Dutta, the First Director of IIM Shillong, explained the importance of clinical research in his speech to the graduates. Additionally, he guided the graduates to start with a company, be lifelong learners, astute observers, and passionate about solving societal challenges sharing his personal experiences while arguing that everyone must follow the rules and that one should never defy the law. He asserts that those who can manage with inclusivity and sustainability are the ones who will own the future and urged them to use the resources at hand in a productive way as he closed his remarks.”
