Dr.A. Shenbagavalli is a Professor and also the Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at National Engineering College, Thoothukkudi. She has more than 30 years of experience as a teacher and more than 15 years of experience in the field of research.

“Offering the right freedom to the students for choosing what they want to study”

Along with the theoretical, there is a demonstration session with open source tools. The content delivery is done by the college faculty and industry experts. Choice based system is one of the best practice using which students are given the freedom to choose the subjects they want to study as well as choosing the faculty under whom they would like to study.

What are some valuable insights into the program that you are offering at your institute/department? 

“We keep the program constantly updated according to the requirements”

Few industry-based courses are offered as one credit and three-credit elective courses in the curriculum of the UG programme – B.E(ECE) at NEC. Objectives of these courses are to give an insight to the students about the industry need. These courses are complemented with hands-on training using the latest tools and techniques. 


How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver the program to the students?

“Collaborative learning through mandatory programs”

To train the faculty and me as well, we have certain programs like the Industry Know-How Program. There is also a knowledge sharing session that takes place among the faculty members. Industry experts visit the college and conduct interactive sessions to educate the teachers on the latest trends and technologies. This in turn benefits the students.

How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?

“Keeping the industry people involved as far as possible”

The industrial experts are identified through Alumni. Guest Lectures with the industry experts as speakers is arranged for the students as well as the faculty. A few other initiatives are:

  • Establishing Industry - incubation centres on the college campus. 
  • Providing internship for the students in this incubation centres. 
  • Inviting industrial experts as Board of studies members 
  • Involving them in curriculum and Syllabi framing
