Dr. Vibhav Kr Sachan has been working as the Professor, Dean (Research and Development) and Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at KIET Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He has obtained his Ph.D. degree from Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi. He received his M.Tech and B.Tech degree with honors from U.P.T.U. Lucknow and B.I.E.T. Jhansi respectively. He started his career as Lecturer of Electronics and Communication Engineering at KIET Group of Institutions in August 2001. He has 20 years of academic experience and during this tenure he has taught various subjects at UG and PG levels and has authored 26 books, edited 04 conference proceedings and written 08 chapters in different books. He has supervised 6 Ph.D. Thesis, 15 M.Tech. Scholars and number of B.Tech. students. He has published 41 papers in reputed International journals, 8 papers in National journals and 49 papers in proceedings of International and National Conferences. He is on the editorial board of different International and National journals. He has also received awards like Dr. Dr. CV Raman Award, Dronacharya Award and Letters of Appreciation for his contributions as Additional Head of Department and Coordinator of Administrative Assignments by the Director General of KIET Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad. His current research interest includes wireless sensor networks, communications and signal processing.

Being a Head of Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students and management?

"To develop department by ensuring excellence in all its activities"

As a Head of ECE Department, I am responsible to lead, manage and develop the department to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities.

What's the importance of imparting practical knowledge when it comes to teaching students?

"Practical exposure is very crucial to strengthen subject knowledge"

I believe that having practical knowledge of concepts is an important aspect of science and education. It includes a range of activities and is also used for a range of purposes, such as: illustrating a concept or idea to help students generate arguments from evidence in the process of knowledge construction.

Which best practices are offered by the department to students to help them gain necessary skills?

"We encourage the ambiance of collaborative learning and open communication while teaching"

To help our students develop the required skill set, we use a wide variety of practices. Firstly, we make sure to create a good classroom culture supplemented by flexibility and patience while teaching our students so that fruitful discussions could take place. Along with this we encourage our students to do more and more practice of topics they learn in classrooms. We also use the mode of Information and Communication Technology and encourage collaboration between students and between teachers and students. Lastly, sometimes we teach beyond syllabus to develop a good understanding in students about various aspects of a subject. 

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

"We draft and update it after rigorous consultation with all the stakeholders"

We draft and update the curriculum of our college keeping in mind our goals which we have set for our college and students growth. Next, we keep a regular track on our faculty and students skills that are sought after. We also take the latest industrial and job trends into consideration and accordingly include new programs and courses after rigorous analysis and consultation with students, faculty and industry experts. 

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from your department?

"We full full support and guidance to students for both the things"

We provide every kind of help and support to our students from the very first day of their course so that they can secure a good job after finishing their Graduation and Postgraduation. Because having a job brings a lot of benefits such as working in a corporate environment gives you a perfect opportunity to gain experience of the real world. And you learn skills like teamwork and leadership. And when it comes to higher education, we provide an ambiance to students where they can have a good conversation with others. We also guide them on a regular basis about how to prepare for competitive exams.

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world? 

"By making learning fun and acknowledging their accomplishments via rewards"

To make our students capable of facing challenges of this competitive world, we offer them an environment of positive competition, create varied lesson plans, offer them rewards for their accomplishments, encourage them to set realistic goals and lastly make lectures a bit interesting by including fun activities.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

"We assign case studies and research projects to our students and also conduct professional visits"

We conduct different kinds of co-curricular activities in our college such as giving students various research activities, case studies, field work and encouraging them to find solutions to some real world issues to develop their thinking capacity. And we also invite industry experts and guest speakers to share their experiences and expectations with us and to make our students aware about the corporate culture.

What are the challenges you faced to uplift the education quality of your department?

"Unavailability of required faculty, funds and safe environment was definitely a challenge for us"

We actually faced different kinds of challenges at different levels such as unavailability of required trained professionals to teach our students. We also faced issues while maintaining a healthy and safe environment for students, while developing curriculum and collecting funds to educate students.

When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

"To fulfill students requirements and bring best business value for college"

When I joined this college, my vision was to fulfill student needs by creating an educational environment in which they can attain a variety of goals. My next objective was to ensure excellence in every work assigned to me to maintain a high standard of integrity and performance leading to the achievement of academic and career goals.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of the industry? 

"Because it comprises of professional visits, guest lectures and technical activities"

The curriculum of our college is backed by activities like industrial visits for students, training programs as and when required and practical exposure of concepts through our different technical clubs. We also assign projects to students after college hours so that they can utilize their existing skills and learn new one.

How does your college enhance the skills of faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards? 

"By providing them required trainings and support for research activities"

We provide appropriate training to our faculty members using different training platforms as per their needs and industry requirements. We also give them full support such as installing necessary software in research labs to carry out research activities. Lastly we offer them industrial visits in different organisations on a regular basis.

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

"I ensure the ambiance of transparent communication, good values and also review teaching methodology"

I use a variety of strategies actually with this respect such as I build relationships through open and respectful communication, encourage students to get adapted to the given environment, manage sensory stimulation, provide students prompts and cues while teaching them. Additionally, I use the process of teaching, reviewing, and reteaching and also develop social skills in students.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead? 

"Keep upgrading yourself and always follow your passion"

I would like to advise my students to seek appropriate internship opportunities while studying, because internships ultimately help to strengthen subject concepts. Also keep upgrading your knowledge and skills, stay focused, maintain a balance between your personal and professional life and always pursue your passion, don't listen to others while choosing your career.
