Dr. Abhinav Juneja has been working as the Head of Computer Science and Information Technology Department and as a Professor at KIET Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He has an amazing teaching experience of 21 years educating Undergraduate and Postgraduate Engineering students. He has done his Doctorate in Computer Science and Engineering and has more than 55 publications in national and international journals/books and conferences having reputed indexings of SCI, Scopus and ESCI etc. He has edited 2 books on emerging areas of machine learning and related technologies. He is reviewer of various journals of Computer Science and Engineering and also a member of ACM and IAENG.

Being a Head of Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students and management?

"It is to offer best growth opportunities to students and ensure they gets placed in good companies"

As the Head of Department, my prime responsibility is to provide the best learning resources and environment to students. And from the management perspective, I need to ensure that every student gets a good Placement in reputed organizations and earns not only a degree, but also becomes a successful person in life.

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"By enforcing outcome based learning environment in college and assigning projects to students"

Our faculty works really hard to bridge the gap between industry and academia and various measures have already been devised for the same including more focus on project based learning, outcome oriented education. Lastly, industrial visits and guest lectures are organized by us on a regular basis. 

Which best practices are offered by your department to students to help them gain necessary skills? 

"We conduct lot of experiments to strengthen our students concepts and involve them in all college activities"

We start involving students in college academic and non-academic activities from the time they join us to pursue their dream courses and build a better life for themselves. And emphasis is given on doing more practical experiments to learn any concept in more depth because our objective is to educate students beyond curriculum.

How do you strategize and upgrade the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

"Curriculum designed by the University is followed by us and short term courses are added in it regularly"

We follow the curriculum designed by the University we are affiliated to, and hence updates regularly happen in it as per changing industrial requirements. In addition to this, our institute and department regularly offers a wide variety of value-added courses to interested students who want to up-skill themselves in a particular field. 

How does your department prepare students for placement and higher education?

"By educating them about what exactly the industrial expectations are in today's time"

Students are made clearly aware about the exact requirements of the corporate world since inception and our department works with students throughout their learning journey to imbibe the technical and interpersonal skills needed for a successful career.

How do you help your students to deal confidently with this competitive world?

"By encouraging them to work on their weaknesses and guiding them whenever they get stuck somewhere"

Our philosophy is to develop our students in such a way which can clearly differentiate them from the masses and they can clearly and confidently face the competition of the outside world. We regularly motivate our students to identify their strengths, work on their weaknesses, to participate in industrial events and take real time projects where they can utilize their knowledge. And as and when required, we keep nurturing them with the help of dedicated mentors and faculty who help them realise their true potential and vision for life.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

"A wide variety of co-curricular activities are organized by students clubs of our institute"

Our Department has established different clubs to conduct co-curricular activities for skill enhancement of students. And students themselves handle these clubs and we assist them whenever required, this not only enhances their problem solving skills but also improves their leadership potential. 

What challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your department? 

"Defining strong evaluation methods to assess students is a hurdle for us presently"

I firmly believe that there is an immediate need for reforms in the evaluation pattern of students as they should be evaluated through the outcome of the learning and not just alone by marks they get in exams. Hence practically making and executing such strategies which can evaluate our students in a better way is a challenge for us currently. 

When you joined this college, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

"It was to make my students technically proficient and ethically strong individuals"

As a Head of the Department, I regularly interact with my students and faculty and have provided an open, friendly and trustworthy communication ambiance so that they can talk to me about their academic issues and queries without any hesitation. In addition to this, I keep modifying my teaching methodologies as per changing industrial requirements, development and students needs to make the classroom learning more interactive and fun for students.

Any valuable advice which you would like to give to the students to have a prosperous career ahead? 

"Have faith in yourself and keep upgrading in your skills"

From my past experiences and educational journey of 21 years, I have interacted with a wide variety of students and have seen them getting success. Hence I would advise my students to believe in their skills and capabilities, because knowledge with confidence would help you achieve everything you have dreamt of. Keep learning and keep doing hard work and never leave any opportunity unattended and explore the world to the fullest.
