NITIE Mumbai offers a full-time and part-time Doctorate Fellowship program as equivalent to PhD. The program is offered in 3 main fields i.e. Management, Engineering and Environment Management which is further specialized into many courses. The duration of NITIE PhD is a minimum of 2-years and a maximum of 5-years. The PhD program motivates the student to become an excellent research-level individual. PhD of NITIE is recognised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

• The PhD program in Management is specialized in Operation Management, Production, Operations & Decision Sciences, Industrial Safety, Human Resource Management, Finance, Project Management, Technology Management, Marketing, Economics.
• PhD in Engineering is specialized in Manufacturing and System Management, Industrial Engineering, Information Technology and Systems.
• PhD program in Environment Management is specialized in Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Systems, Information Technology, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Environmental Engineering, Organisational Behaviour, Decision Sciences, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Finance & Accounts.
• The program consists of Course Work, Literature Review-cum-Pre Registration, Credit-cum-Progress-Seminar, Pre-Synopsis seminar, Synopsis Submission, Thesis submission and final viva-voce exam.
• The maximum time period for submission of Thesis is 5-years or 4-years from the date of registration.

NITIE PhD Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for full-time and part-time candidates is as follows:

Full-Time PhD Eligibility:

• Candidates must have a Master’s Degree or equivalent in the relevant field with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognised board of University.
• Candidates who are appearing for the final exams are also eligible.

Note: Eligibility for acquiring Financial Assistance is to have a valid score of GATE/NET/CAT Entrance Exam. CAT Exam 2022 is on November 28 , 2021 . 

Part-Time PhD Eligibility:

• Candidates must ahve a Master’s degree along with 2-years of Experience in the Industry.
• Candidates have to fill the Sponsorship Form available on the Official Website of NITIE.

NITIE PhD Admission Guidelines

Admission selection majorly focuses upon the 3 stages of screening as mentioned below:

Stage I: Initial Screening & Shortlisting

The first stage includes Initial Shortlisting based on the applications, eligibility and research proposal. Candidates who are shortlisted in thsi stage will receive an email and/or online notification.

Stage II: Selection Process for Sortlisted Candidates

Candidates selected in the first stage have to further appear for

(i) NITIE Admission Test and Writing Skills Test: NITIE Admission Test consists of 3 sections namely Analytical Skills, Logical Reasoning and Research Aptitude. For the Writing Skills Test, candidates have to write a summary of 150-200 words of Research/ General article.

(ii) Research Presentation and PI: The Research Presentation is based on the Research Proposal followed by PI. The interview examines the students based on subject knowledge, motivation for doing research, communication skills and overall assessment. 

Stage III: Merit List

The final merit list is prepared on the basis of performance in NITIE Admission Test, Writing Skills Test, Past Academic Achievement, Research Presentation and PI.

• However, the Mouse Pointer over Programs > Fellow > Overview.
• Search for the option of ‘Apply Now’ and Click on it.
• Enter Personal and Educational Details in the form.
• Candidates have to submit their Research Proposal (Maximum 1500 words).
• Submit the Required Documents along with Application fee of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC / ST / PWD Candidates).
• Candidates can save the Information for future use.

NITIE PhD Course Details

NITIE offers a Doctoral Level Fellowship Programme, of five years which is available for Sponsored Candidates in Full Time and Part Time Modes. It shapes individuals in a package such that they become competent for career in Academics and other areas.

Credit Requirements

Fellow Candidates have to complete a minimum of 12 Courses. If Additional Courses are to be admitted in the First Year of Fellowship Programme, then it should be added. Minimum Credits are to be earned through Seminars conducted by the University.

• Research Enable Courses: Building Research Skills

During the first Year of Fellowship Programs, a total of 7 Courses should be completed by the Candidate in these Courses. These Courses consists of Methodology, Statistics-I, Qualitative Research and Technical Writing, Survey Research, Review of Industrial Engineering and management Special research skill Courses.

• Foundation Courses: Building perspective

During the first Year of Fellowship Programs, a total of 2 Courses should be completed by the Candidate in these Courses.These Courses consists of Macroeconomics, Technology, Business and Environment.

• Stream specific courses: Building specialization

During the first Year of Fellowship Programs, a total of 3 Courses should be completed by the Candidate in these Courses. At least 2 Courses should be from Major and 1 from Minor Area should be there.

NITIE PhD Financial Assistance

Fellowships are also available for Regular Candidates in which they can clai Financial Assistance by being Eligible. If they are not, they would not get Financial Assistance. Candidates will receive INR 25,000 during 1st and 2nd year of the Fellow programme and 28,000 INR during 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the Fellow programme as per MHRD guidelines.

Eligibility for Claiming for Financial Assistance:

• Master’s degree in Engineering and valid score in GATE.
• Master’s degree in relevant field with valid score in GATE/NET/CAT.
