 The program is supported by study in mathematics, science, and engineering. This allows students to design hardware and software solutions for a wide variety of application domains. Students gain hands-on experience in the laboratory courses accompanying classroom work, and develop design skills in course work beginning in the first two years. Design experience continues in junior and senior years in the areas of software engineering and in applications areas of the student’s choosing, culminating in the one semester Senior Design Project course.

The Program Educational Objectives of the Computer Science and Engineering program describe our graduates expected accomplishments during the first few years following graduation from the program. The Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate program educational objectives are that our alumni/ae:

  • practice as computing professionals (appropriate to the description of the Computer Science and Engineering program described above), conducting research and/or leading, designing, developing, or maintaining projects in various technical areas;
  • apply the ethical and social aspects of modern computing technology to the design, development, and usage of computing artifacts; and,
  • enhance their skills and embrace new computing technologies through self-directed professional development and post-graduate training or education.

The following Student Outcomes describes the skills imparted by our Computer Science & Engineering program:

  • An ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution
  • An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs
  • An ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal
  • An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  • An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society
  • Recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development
  • An ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice
  • An ability to apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in
  • An ability to apply design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity

Academic Eligibility:

  • Official high school transcripts including students’ senior classes, class rank (if applicable), and latest grades earned.
  • UConn requires official SAT or ACT scores. 
    • SAT scores are made optional beginning with students applying for Spring 2021 entry and continuing through the next two admissions cycles.
  • International applicants whose primary language is not English are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
