Ques. What is better, metallurgical in the old IIT (Kharagpur/Roorkee) or electrical in the new IIT (Ganghinagar/Mandi)?

● Top Answer By Aditi Goswami on 14 Apr 23

Both metallurgical and electrical engineering are highly respected fields of study. The choice between them will depend on your personal interests and career goals. The old IITS like Kharagpur and Roorkee has a long-standing legacy in metallurgical engineering, whereas the new IITs like Gandhinagar and Mandi have strong electrical engineering programs.  However, personally, I feel metallurgy in Kharagpur or Roorkee is a better option than joining EE in newer IITs. Here are a few points that support my stance  The exposure, culture, opportunities, peer groups, and overall campus life you will experience at IIT Roorkee cannot be compared to that of newer IITs which are still growing and have a long way to go. The branch does matter to a certain extent, but if you look at the bigger picture, the Institute’s brand and opportunities overshadow the drawbacks of a less preferred branch. Those who are desperate can always opt for a branch change at the end of the first semester. Ultimately, the choice between metallurgical engineering at an old IIT and electrical engineering at a new IIT will come down to your personal inclinations and career goals....Read more

Ques. Which is a better choice among industrial systems engineering at IIT Kharagpur and electrical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar?

● Top Answer By Mitali Khadanga on 16 Mar 23

Ans. - IIT Bhubaneswar is a young institute with immense potential for growth and accomplishment. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur is a well-established institute with a long-standing reputation. If you are seeking an institute with outstanding campus life and facilities, then IIT Kharagpur is the perfect fit for you. If you are uncertain about your branch of study but confident about your ability to compete, you can consider opting for a branch change after your first year by earning a high GPA. Keep in mind that this option is not an easy one. Considering the scope of job and academia, Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar may be a better option for you, even if you are unaware of the current placement scenario. Students have been receiving better offers over the years, indicating positive growth. In the end, your decision depends on your interests and what you want to study. Both of these institutes are excellent places to pursue either of these streams, with their respective strengths and opportunities....Read more

Ques. Which branch should I choose: B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Roorkee or Dual Degree (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Kharaghpur?

● Top Answer By Senjuti Gupta on 12 Apr 23

Both BTech EE from IIT Roorkee and Dual Degree EE from IT KGP are great programs for those interested in core fields. You will have to maintain a good score throughout and support your resume with some additional projects. The only problem for those who target non-core industries is during internships wherein companies prefer BTech students over Dual Degree students.  Placements are more about your academic and non-academic achievements than your degree name. However, it’s important to note that your degree should align with the industry in case of core placements. The students of both programs stay together and have the same campus life and there isn’t much difference. All I feel is that Dual Degree specialization offers you a kind of flexibility to choose from a variety of specializations. ...Read more

Ques. Which is better - metallurgy at IIT Kharagpur or electrical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar?

● Top Answer By Priti Roy on 09 Jul 21

The answer to this question is determined by what you are passionate about. A large number of students choose to go for electrical engineering. This branch guarantees a lot of lucrative placements. You can also hone your skills while working. My friend graduated from IIT Bhubaneswar and he thinks it is a great institute for pursuing electrical engineering. The only thing missing in new IITs is exposure and strength. IIT Kharagpur is an old IIT and things are very organized there as the old ones are more often than not. You will have more industrial connections and you can hone your skills in coding. You can enhance your knowledge of artificial intelligence and IoT among topics that are trending. Most Indian students do not have much passion to work in companies based on core metallurgy. If you are concerned about your placements then the circuit branches like CSE, ECE, EE, EEE are better than the rest of the branches. Categories Metallurgy at IIT Kharagpur Electrical at IIT Bhubaneswar Course Fee 8.38 lakh 8.52 lakh Highest CTC 18 LPA 15.8 LPA Average CTC 8 LPA 9 LPA Recruiting Companies Tata Steel, American Express, Capital One, EXL Services, etc. Bosch, TCS, Phillips, Havells, etc. Electrical engineering involves a lot of mathematics along with physics so it is difficult. Metallurgy, on the other hand, includes physics, chemistry. Despite being a relatively easier course, if you happen to lose interest, completing the program can really become a chore. Both courses take a lot of effort to complete so choose wisely....Read more
