LPU Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

The candidates seeking admission must qualify in the following.

  • Candidates must have a Master’s degree with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks with a relaxation of 5% for SC/ST students.
  • To get a Ph.D. in engineering disciplines applicants must have a relevant Post Graduation degree in Engineering.
  • However, students are selected based on their performance in the Entrance Test LPUNEST. The Entrance exam can be considered for both admission and Scholarship.

LPU Ph.D. Admission 2024

Admission to the Ph.D. program is done on the basis of the candidate’s performance in LPUNEST followed by an interview. The Candidates are selected based on their performance in the written test (70% weightage) and interview (30% weightage). Students who have qualified in NET/JRF/CSIR/ICAR/SLET/GATE/GPAT/SPM or fellowship holders are exempted from attending the written test.

LPUNEST Pattern

The paper is divided into two parts.

  • Paper-I consists of Teaching and Research Aptitude and Paper II consists of program-wise questions
  • Each paper consists of 40 objective questions each counting to a total of 80 questions.
  • The duration of time for the exam is 90 minutes.

LPU Ph.D. Syllabus

Coursework is mandatory for all Ph.D. students. During the one or second semester, the coursework must be completed by the Candidates prescribed by the University. The coursework consists of three courses

  • Course-I: Foundations of Research and Publication Ethics
  • Course-II: Research Methodology
  • Course-III: Research Writing and Presentation

75% of minimum attendance is mandatory for the candidates during the course. Candidates must obtain 55% marks in individual courses each to secure the degree. Thesis submission and Seminar presentation are mandatory for the candidates in order to evaluate the process of getting a degree. The thesis work is followed by a viva voce examination conducted by the examiners. So overall performance is calculated for issuing the degree.

LPU Ph.D. Scholarships

The categories of scholarship are based on performance in LPUNEST (Ph.D.). The cut-off for each category will be announced along with the result of the respective schedule. The scholarship details are as per the following table:

Note: Applicant seeking test (LPUNEST (Ph.D.)) exemption on basis of, UGC (NET/ JRF)/ CSIR (NET/ JRF)/ ICAR (JRF/ SRF) examination/ SLET (Punjab only)/ GATE/ GPAT/ ICAR (NET), Teacher Fellowship holder or passed M.Phil. Program (in Regular mode only) may appear for test LPUNEST (Ph.D.) in order to avail of the scholarship as mentioned above. The result of the scholarship for Ph.D. applicants will be declared along with the Ph.D. Interview results. Scholarships up to 90% of the program fee are offered to research associates in centrally funded labs, Professionals working in Industry/Corporate/Teaching, and candidates with various research achievements.

Ques. Can I apply for a Ph.D. with a distance learning Graduation at LPU?

Ans. Yes, you can apply for LPU to get into Ph.D. You can apply for all the disciplines available for the program except for the Engineering disciplines. So you meet the provided eligibility criteria to apply.

Ques. If I won’t be able to complete the coursework in the first or second semester of LPU Ph.D., What is the alternative?

Ans. It is mandatory as mentioned by the University to complete the course work initially itself. The reason behind your lagging should be genuine and valid. Then the management considers and excuses you with an alternative.

Ques. What is the duration of a Ph.D. at LPU for MPhil research scholars?

Ans. The Ph.D. program is offered for a minimum duration of three years to a maximum of six years. There is no change in the duration for any students irrespective of Graduation. Moreover, the duration is also the same for all disciplines.

Ques. What about publishing the research paper during the Ph.D. program at LPU?

Ans. The candidates must publish at least a research paper in journals. It is mandatory for everyone to publish it with two paper presentations before the submission of thesis work. Through this, the students will be analyzed for their overall performance.
