No, there is no such dress-code in IIT Bhubaneswar. But there are few basic rules regarding dress code like other colleges IIT Bhubaneswar expects the girls to follow. You should not attend the classes wearing something which may be perceived as inappropriate for the classroom environment. Other than that girls are free to wear what they want in the hostels.

But, there is a certain dress code for certain events in the college. In convocation, IIT Bhubaneswar asks its degree recipient to maintain a proper dress code. Also, the CSE first-year course curriculum doesn't really require a laptop, so there is plenty of time to figure out what laptop you want. You can do all your academic work that an IIT CSE curriculum demands with any standard laptop which has 8GB RAM, at least 1 TB HDD, Intel i5 8th Generation, 7- 10 hours battery backup, optional graphic card. Yes, the main new campus hostel will accommodate M.Tech students. Due to severe cyclonic storm 'Fani', the main campus of IIT Bhubaneswar which is at Argul took huge damage. But the authorities acted quickly on renovation and from May 2019, M.Tech students were accommodated at the permanent campus in Argul along with other students.

There are accommodations for both boys and girls in Brahmaputra Hall of Residence and Ganga Hall of Residence respectively. Hostel rooms are on a single-occupant basis. Hostels are equipped with basic facilities like Wi-Fi, Basketball Court, Volleyball Court, Badminton Court, Table Tennis, and Carrom, etc. Inside the campus, there are ATM facilities available 24 hours. There is also a small shopping complex from where students can buy their daily necessities.

IIT Bhubaneswar has a permanent campus of 936 acres established in 2008. Most of the campus buildings have been up and running since 2015. There are separate hostels for boys and girls and all the accommodation has been shifted to the new campus, which is 30 kilometers away from the old campus. There are enough numbers of lifts, washing machines, Geysers, Water Purifier cum cooler in every wing. There are also common rooms (with TV sets), library and gym facilities inside the hostel itself. As of 2019 two more boys hostel have been established. There are separate buildings for first-year classes and a lab complex that has been made for students. It has reported that the campus buildings were completed by January 2017. The outdoor sports activity areas are not completed yet but most of the new IITs have the same situation. All the new admissions are accommodated in new campuses and sports complexes are on verge of completion. Each of the academic buildings has good facilities like a central cooling system, CCTV for security, etc.

The proposed design for the campus is taking its shape and students are happy with the infrastructure of IIT Bhubaneswar. After completion of the Student Activity Centre, the place would be a bliss for students.
 

Hostels in IIT Bhubaneswar are pretty much well maintained, as is the case with most of the new IITs. Hostel facilities are available for both girls and boys. There is a single room allotted for every individual. Each room has all essential amenities, such as a bed, study table, chair, and a cupboard. Washing machines and water purifiers are also available on each floor. There is also a Lift facility for 8 storey hostels. For safety measures, CCTV cameras are installed in the outer premises of the hostels. Canteen facilities are available inside hostels and other places within the campus premises. 

Hostels are equipped with 24*7 Internet facilities through LAN and Wi-Fi for academics and research purposes. There are also common rooms inside the hostels which have small libraries (other than academics) and labs for using high-speed Internet. All hostels have proper gym facilities. There are also courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton and table tennis, Lawn tennis, etc. ATM facility is available inside the hostel and as well as on campus. A small shopping complex is also there inside the campus for basic and academic necessities like books/stationery to tech gadgets. 

The campus contains a well-built guest house, where parents/relatives of the students can stay during their visits. There is also a pharmacy inside the campus for medical emergencies. 
 

All students who have registered for full-time courses in the institute have to live in the

hostel. The rules and regulations of the institute govern the hostels.

• In the beginning, for at least six to eight months, as a fresher, you will live in double-occupancy rooms. This is to make sure that you and other fellow newcomers are not affected by homesickness and isolation.

• IITs attract students from a broad variety of backgrounds from across the nation. It promotes cross-cultural relationships. This will help you to socialize and create a sense of security with others.

• All the allotted rooms have a set of furniture and fittings in each room. They consist of a bed for each inmate as well as a table, chair, ceiling fan with a regulator, and light fitting.

• From the second year onward, you will be able to live in separate rooms with single occupancy in the hostel. The basis for such an allotment is to encourage students to focus more on their studies.

• Throughout your stay in the hostel, you are not allowed to exchange rooms or furniture and fittings with other students. To do so you should get an allowance from hall management.

• The hall management consists of the warden, assistant warden/wardens, the council of wardens or hall councils, and hall managers.

There are few things that may help if you are planning on joining IIT Bhubaneshwar’s Electrical

Engineering batch. This requires a high interest of the student in Calculus because it involves a lot of use of Maths in itself when compared to Physics. It usually contains subjects such as Power Systems, Control Systems, and Thermodynamics, etc.

There has always been a stereotype that Mechanical Engineering is better suited for male than female students. Girls are pushed to take other courses like Electronics or Computer Science because they are said not to possess the physical strength required for the fieldwork in Mechanical Engineering. Even in top engineering colleges, it is seen that the male to female gender ratio is 140:10 which is fairly low as compared to other branches.

The choice of a branch to pursue should entirely depend on the individual. If a female candidate is interested to pursue Mechanical Engineering, she should be able to make that decision without apprehension. We are in the 21st century and it is high time we free ourselves of stereotypes which cause hindrance in maintaining gender equality through society. 

Mechanical Engineering doesn’t always need the aspirant to work on the field as it opens up opportunities for other fields too like Machine Design and CAD, Robotics and Mechatronics, Structural Analysis, etc. However, an individual, be it any gender, should be able to choose their career freely even if they are interested in pursuing a career in fieldwork after studying Mechanical Engineering.

IIT Bhubaneswar provides a strong faculty base and learning environment for students to pursue M.Tech. Many students were selected in Google Summer of Coding (GSoC) in 2018. Many freshers started competitive coding from the very beginning, working on projects and contributing to open source.

IIT Indore has a placement rate of 99%. Out of 89 students who participated, 88 received job offers. The top recruiters included Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and Arcesium. The highest salary package offered was 43 lakhs per annum and the average was 16 lakhs per annum in 2019 placement drive.

IIT Gandhinagar had over 80% placement rate in the 2019 placement drive. More than 70 companies participated in the placement process. The top recruiters were KPIT, Goldman Sachs, ITC, IOCL, HPCL, and ISRO. The highest salary package offered was 40 lakhs per annum and the average was 8 lakhs per annum.
