How is the electronics and communications program at IIT Bhubaneswar, with respect to the faculty and placements?

Anam ShamsSohini GuptaB.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

The first batch of Electronics and Communication Engineering students of IIT Bhubaneswar graduated in 2020. ECE placement at IIT Bhubaneswar has been quite good. However, the number of core companies visiting the campus placement was less compared to the software companies. Only 10% of the students received core placements. The rest of the batch got placed in software companies. Some of the major recruiters that visited the campus placement are Microsoft, Oyo, HSBC, Razorpay, etc.

The faculties of Scool of Infrastructure (Civil) have good industrial experience. The professors are also quite helpful.

How good is the CSE branch and faculty at the IIT in Bhubaneswar ?

Meghdeepa MondalAnushua RoyB.Tech CE from IITBBSR (2019)

IIT Bhubaneshwar is at the 22nd rank in the NIRF 2020 ranking. However, there are many other IITs like IIT Madras, Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, and Kanpur among others, which are ranked higher than IIT Bhubaneshwar.

Looking at the parameter of placement in the CSE branch, it is quite impressive with a placement rate of 100%. Some reputed companies were present in the placement drives conducted in the college. In 2018, Adobe visited the college and offered the highest package, which was worth INR 38 lakh per annum. Similarly, Goldman Sachs had offered a package of 31.5 lakh to three students from the CSE branch.

The infrastructure required for the CSE branch is also quite well at IIT Bhubaneshwar. The college provides essential facilities like Wi-Fi network, computer laboratories, smart classes, library, and gymnasium.

The faculty is well-qualified and most of them are IIT alumnae and have Ph.D. The student to faculty ratio is 1 teacher to 40 students, which is not very impressive. However, the faculty provides students with elaborated notes and PowerPoint presentations to teach them in recreational ways.

Considering the academics and placement rate it’s clear that CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good.

Which is better for ECE in terms of faculty, infrastructure, etc.: IIT Bhubaneswar or IIT (ISM) Dhanbad?

Kirti GoyalDisha SethiB.Tech+M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar

For ECE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is a better option. The department has a good infrastructure. After the conversion to IIT, the labs are housed in the New Academic Complex. It is well-equipped with cutting-edge technology and facilities. Core Electronics companies such as Texas Instruments, HCL, etc. visit the IIT Dhanbad placements. Non-core placements are also good. Amazon, Microsoft IDC, Adobe Systems, Goldman Sachs, etc. recruit ECE students too. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 12 - 15 LPA.

Who are the best professors of IIT Bhubaneshwar?

Neerendra SinghMuskan ShethStudied Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2017)

IIT Bhubaneswar has a lot of talented professors at its service which has till now produced around 2000+ research papers. Some of the professors worth mentioning are as follows:

  1. Dr. Rajan Jha: He is from the School of Basic Science working in the physics department and would most probably teach you in the first semester itself. He’s done his Ph.D. from IIT‌ Delhi. Your whole journey of the college becomes a lot easier if you get a teacher as inspiring as him with his unmatched teaching style.
  2. Prof. Sujit Roy: He’s done his Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur and further studies from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and Hokkaido University, Japan. He basically is one of those professors who’d give you your pending fruits of qualifying the JEE Advanced, by fulfilling your dreams of studying in a class filled up with enthusiasm and curiosity. He would definitely make you fall in love with the subject
  3. Prof. Joy Chandra Mukherjee: He’s done his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He belongs to the branch of computer science and engineering and teaches Data structures to the first-year students. He is one of those professors who are not that strict with the rules of attendance and even conducts open book examinations. He is always open to students with their queries.
  4. Dr. Rajesh Kumar: He’s a professor from the School of Basic Science in the Mathematics department. When you talk of a teacher, he has every box ticked in front of his name. With most of the students finding the calculus and graphs boring, it’s his teaching methodology that never lets go of any student’s attention.

The list might have passed over some of the names but the fact that being qualified enough to teach in a premier institute such as IIT Bhubaneshwar itself tells the quality of the faculty.
