Remarks :
The entrance exam was BITSAT and it is scoring overall if time management is done wisely. To be eligible you must have be matriculated pass and physics, chemistry and maths as the main subjects in your intermediate for most of the courses and for B. Pharma. course you must have biology as your subject apart from physics and chemistry. BITSAT application will be available on the Bits admission website one or two months before the exam the most important thing there is no reservation policy in BITS and this is one of the best parts of any institution. BITS admission is very robust and sophisticated sometimes as it comes in iterations that prevail after the campus opening for the freshers which I think need to be analysed and should be refined. There is an application fess which in my case was three thousand rupees and has increased over the subsequent years. The applicant should have a minimum of 75% in intermediate and 60% in each of the subjects PCM/B to take admission.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course because I was interested in the manufacturing and management domain overall. I wanted some dynamic career options which I was not able to get if I pursued coding as a profession. Faculties are qualified and have done their masters/Phd/Research from either iits or any international highly ranked institute. Faculty to student ratio is really good. It depends on the branch you are in like in manufacturing it is around 1 faculty per 30 students and also it depends on the courses you take after choosing your branch. The teaching methodology is good and most of the faculties use slides for their respective courses and the same is provided to students after the topic is completed. Exams are conducted on a regular basis, we have both mid-semester examinations and comprehensive/end-term examinations which have more weightage than mid-term exam examinations. These examinations are on a little difficult side compared to regular evaluations like tutorial tests/quizzes etc.
Internships Opportunities :
There are different companies that offer different roles in summer internships this year. Some of them are Adobe, Amazon, BCG, Hindustan Unilever Limited, JSW, Schlumberger, P&G etc. Stipends offered by them vary largely on the roles assigned for example, quant roles saw the highest stipend of around fifty-four lakhs offered by Tower Research Capital, London. The software development engineering role saw a stipend of around 2 lakhs, the same goes for the data science role and some offers were made in research and development and supply chain management roles by Hindustan Unilever Limited and some other core domain companies. Projects of the tasks depend on the roles offered to students. For summer internships most of the companies have a cgpa criteria of a minimum of seven but it majorly depends on the domain you are applying for Hindustan Unilever limited has a cgpa criteria of 6.75 for the supply chain management domain.
Placement Experience :
Placements our college is one of the best in the country and may be among the best 5 engineering colleges in india after top iits. For campus placements, students are eligible in the fourth year or just after the third year. There is a great chance of getting a pre-placement offer during the SI(Summer internships) but summer internships are a little hard to grab as there a high cgpa criteria compared to placements if the same company is offering a role. Almost all the multi-national company visits and take at least 2-3 students and almost all the students who sit for placements get placed in some or the other company. The highest packages offered are more than a crore but only one or two students are able to grab it and as far as the average package is concerned it was around 19 lakhs last year. More than 98% percent of the students who sit for placements get placed. My plans are currently not oriented towards the placement as I am thinking of an MBA after graduation.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fess hike policy is real and every student has to deal with it, though there are scholarships for merit and merit cum need on the basis of family income. There are various internship opportunities such as SI etc. We have an internship program in BITS which is part of the degree program known as practice school which happens two times in the course you opt for as a major. The first practice school happens just after the completion of the second year and the second practice school happens either in the seventh or eighth semester depending on your choice and allotment of the practice school station. Allotment of the practice school station is highly influenced by your cgpa before the semester you are applying for the practice school. As far as the stipend is concerned someone rarely gets a stipend in practice school but in second practice school there is a high chance of getting a stipend. There are two types of scholarships in bits namely, MCN(Merit cum need) scholarship and merit scholarship.
Campus Life :
Bits Pilani annually conducts 4 major fests namely, OASIS(second largest college cultural fest of india), Apogee( our technical fest), BOSM(Bits official sports meet) and Inter-bits(a sports fest for all three Indian bits campuses). Oasis is generally conducted in the month of October/November, apogee in the month of March/April, bosom in the month of September/October, and inter-bits in the month of April. Bits has one of the biggest libraries among the universities in india comprising more than three lakh books of all genres including almost all publications and authors. Or library does have research articles and publications of different scholars and has a large seating capacity of more than 1,200 students at a time. Classrooms are equipped with the latest teaching tools and smart boards as well as blackboards with nice air conditioning and speakers in every classroom. Bits have a large playground known as gym grounds and Sac(Student's activity centre) where the gym is located.
