THE SHADES OF SXC

Remarks :

Candidates who had Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology or Biotechnology in their class 12 are eligible for applying in this course. The merit score is calculated by taking an average of marks in PCMB+ marks in Biology+ marks in Chemistry. The application form is available on the college website around the month of June and they charge Rs 1000 for filling it up. They have reservations as per the government reservation norms and separate reservations are there for Christian students.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is designed in a very elaborate manner keeping in mind the possible diverse interests of students. The faculty members are extremely qualified, helpful and motivating. One can expect quality education from them. Most of them teach via a combination of PPT and board work methods. Routine internal assessments and vivas are conducted to check the progress of the students. The end-term examinations are easy to overcome with flying colours if one follows the class properly. In short, if one follows the professor's advice properly and studies diligently then he or she can shine brightly in the upcoming days. The college is very particular and punctual when it comes to conducting exams and declaration of results.

Placement Experience :

The course in which I was enrolled had no placement options after Bachelors. So, after completing this Bachelor's course most of us enrolled in a Master's course while some went to pursue an MBA. However, there is a placement cell in our college. Students from various departments who are interested in getting jobs after completion of their degree can register there and explore the options available.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure is a bit high. The total cost of this 3-year graduation degree was approximately 370000. We were not given any institutional scholarship. There is no scope for getting on-campus jobs for this course. However, we have an Entrepreneurship Development Cell run by our college where we can go and share our start-up ideas and thereby get funded to fulfil our dreams.

Campus Life :

The Campus life at SXC is amazing. We have a lot of facilities available inside which include a Central Library, a stationary shop, a cyber room, a gym, a TT court, a large playground and a Gymnasium. The classrooms of our department are spacious, airy and well equipped with digital boards and air conditioner. There are many clubs which help the students to engage themselves in some extracurricular activities other than studies. Some of these clubs are XADAM, XTC, Science Association, Literary Society and so on. Various sports tournaments are organised inside the campus. Several fests are held within the campus throughout the years XAVOTSAV is the main annual fest of SXC held in February. Apart from this few of the Clubs have their individual fest. The Microbiology Department organises an event every year named Modern Trends in Microbiology which is a 2 day international webinar with a cultural program included in it.

Interview Experience :

No, there are no such tests or interviews conducted for the course I mentioned. Our selection is based completely on our class 12 performance. The subjects that are considered for getting admission to BSc Microbiology course are Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology or Biotechnology. The formula used for calculating the merit score is Avg of marks obtained in PCMB+ Marks obtained in Chemistry+ Marks Obtained in Biology. The cutoffs are usually a bit high. If a student secures 285 out of 300 on the basis of the above-mentioned formula then they are on the safer side. However, these cutoffs may vary from year to year.

Placement Experience:

Students get placement offers in the first year of M.Stat. In general, however, most students prefer to go abroad for higher studies. Students who sit for placements mostly get placed in Finance and Analytics companies, typically in Business Analyst, Risk Analyst and other roles. ISI has a 100% placement record for B.Stat- M.Stat students. Companies like Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Co., JP Morgan & Chase, Amazon, etc. come for placements. Last year, the highest package offered was 56 lpa with the package being 28 lpa. M.Tech CS had the highest overall package at 89 lpa.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I want to explore the world that's why I chose this course. The student ratio is not accurate but approximately it would be approximately 36:17. The only qualification benchmark is your marks and the teaching process is very efficient. The difficulty of the exam depends on the student.

From the fifth to sixth semester students are eligible to do internships and get placements. For sixth-semester students, it is compulsory to take an intership as it is part of the assignment and we get marks for it. Almost 70-80 percent of students get their placement from college.
