Akshat K Bansal's Review On Thapar Institute Of Engineering And Technology - [Thapar University], Patiala | collegedunia.com

You should come to THAPAR

Remarks :

There were two ways to enter the institute. 1. Class XII board result (PCM score) 2. JEE main rank I took the admission. You will find the application form on the official website of Thapar, during the starting months of the year, put your details, and later after your board result just upload your score or after your jee result.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I wanted to pursue Computer engineering, it is a bit different from computer science engineering since Computer engineering is a bit more inclined towards hardware but most of the things are still the same. In lectures, the ratio is 1:150-200 In labs, the ratio stands at 1:30 We have a semester of around 5 months, and two major exams each sem i.e. midsem and endsem. Before both, we have sessionals and lab evaluations probably of around 10-20 marks. They are quite easy to pass by studying just a week before exams

Placement Experience :

In your 3rd year companies start inviting students for interviews. Basically almost all the companies you can think of come here. That is the best part of Thapar. If you are in the computer-related branch you will be placed with a minimum package of 8-9 lac per annum, with no upper limit. I'm planning for placement.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Fees are too high here The semester fee is around 2.5 lac and keeps on increasing each year. But Thapar gives a lot of scholarships to the following categories: 1. Top performers (on the basis of CGPA) 2. Family income less than 10 lac and a decent CGPA. 3. Socially backward classes.

Campus Life :

Campus life is quite chill here. the hostel time is around 8-9 p.m. The campus time is around 7-8 p.m. Talking about the college fest - it is 'saturnalia' which occurs around November - December. It's not that great but also won't disappoint you. The library at thapar is the best library you can get in India or maybe it has some ranking all over Asia too. There are tonnes of books here and a lot of aesthetic sitting areas. There is an area for sports basically all sorts of games are there, even you can get the equipment issue for some hours without any cost.

Hostel Facilities :

There are many hostels, Single seater[AC/Non-AC], 2/3/4 seater[AC/Non-AC]. The food of some hostels is too good and for some it is average. Wifi is provided in all the hostels. Other facilities such as Gym, Laundry, and Common areas are also in all hostels. The cost depends on the type of room you want, the range is between 40,000 to 60,000 for hostels per semester and 20,000 to 25,000 for the mess. No additional cost for gym or laundry services.
