Lavesh Gupta's Review On IIT Kanpur - Indian Institute Of Technology - [IITK], Kanpur | collegedunia.com

Clubs, Societies & Culture

Remarks :

To take admission to BTech Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, you need to qualify for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. The general rank cutoff for the course is around 1300 AIR in JEE Advanced. The admission is done through JoSAA counselling. Reservations like GEN-EWS can really help students who come from an economically humble backgrounds. The JoSAA counselling program is very nice.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because it was the best that was available at my JEE rank. I also looked for potential opportunities for circuital branches at IITK and found out that there are sufficient internship and placement opportunities. The student-faculty ratio is quite high due to the recent increment in IIT seats. All the professors are highly trained and hold various degrees like MTech, PhD etc.

Internships Opportunities :

SPO and SIP make it possible for students to get an internship in the second year and third years. There are different clubs that hold summer and winter projects and help the students develop industry skills during their vacations.

Placement Experience :

4th years in their 7th semester sit for placements. Big companies like Jane Street, all of FAANG, and Flipkart visit the campus and around 800 offers are made in the first three days. The highest package was 4 Crores and the average is 30LPA.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure is as rigid as any other engineering college. However, IITK provides many scholarships through the SSPC - Senate Scholarships and Prizes committee, which includes reimbursement of tuition fees and in some cases Free Basic Mess.

Campus Life :

The annual cultural fest Antaragni is one of the largest fests in Asia. So, is Techkriti, the annual technical festival at IITK. Both Antaragini and Techkriti are conducted in May or April of the year. PK Kelkar library has tons of books with new books getting added every week. Classrooms are equipped with projectors and sound systems.

Hostel Facilities :

Rooms have a little less size but it's manageable. A table, chair, bed, shelf, almirah, and notice board is provided. The mess menu is quite nice and changes every month. The hostel rent is affordable but the mess charges are quite high (13k)

A placement year can give students inspiration for final-year projects and dissertations. It can also help develop your soft skills, such as being able to work in a team and the ability to solve complex problems, which are all valuable assets for both your academic and professional career, as Jasmine experienced.

Placement Experience:

The students become eligible for placements from the sixth semester itself. Companies start visiting the college in the mid of the sixth semester. If you are from a computer background then be assured of 100% placement. Other courses available are MBA, BCA MTECH integrated etc. Mostly every student gets placed to maintain the reputation of the college. It has an average package of 500000 per year. After getting the degree I'll be working in the software field

The placement at my colleagues is good. We are eligible for placements from the 7th semester. The companies that visited my college are Infosys, HCL, Dot square and many more. I don't have any information about that offers. The highest package of my college is 25 lpa and the average package of my college is 3 lpa. 70-80% of students get the placements. My plan after getting the degree is to start my own startup.
