Yes, NIT Calicut is better than VNIT and COEP. If you are getting your desired branch at NIT C go for it. It has better brand recognition and offers better placements and opportunities. NIT Calicut placements 2022 ended with an average CTC of INR 13 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 67.6 LPA.
Which one is better for computer science and engineering and why: VNIT Nagpur, NIT Calicut, or NIT Rourkela?
Among these, NIT Calicut is the best option for Computer Science and Engineering. On an overall scale, it is better compared to VNIT Nagpur and NIT Rourkela. One of my acquaintances who has graduated from VNIT has asked me to choose my institute by keeping the following points in mind.
- VNIT for metallurgy would be a suitable choice for you if you don’t have a particular liking. Apart from that, the metallurgy of VNIT holds an enviable position in India. The syllabus for metallurgy is vast and involves a lot of memorization.
- If you want CS and unfortunately end up not getting it, the next logical step would be to choose IT. The syllabus of IT and CS are almost the same. In the big picture, it will have little importance if you complete your B.Tech from VNIT or NIT Raipur. You will have a degree and you will not regret the decision you made.
IT has a lot of scopes. Later down the road, if you want to continue with your higher studies, you will be capable of switching to almost any department pertaining to computers. IT from NIT Raipur is an excellent choice.
The scope in the metallurgy sector is limited nowadays. It is obviously your call, though. There is vast scope in IT like research, job, etc.
Which is the best NIT among SVNIT Surat, MNIT Jaipur, VNIT Nagpur, NIT Rourkela, NIT Calicut for CSE?
For CSE, NIT Calicut is the best option among these NITs. It offers better placements and career opportunities. According to the recent highlights of NIT Calicut placements the average CTC offered for CSE students is around INR 17 LPA+. Around 100% of students from the branch get placed each year. Which is better, VNIT Nagpur or IIIT Allahabad, for the ECE branch?
One of my acquaintances has a better opinion on the same. He says that if you opt to take admission at IIIT Allahabad, then you are more likely to have better opportunities in the IT field.
- Mostly, the students of ECE are thoroughly engaged in coding and are known to study ECE because of reasons that center around only graduating.
- While, on the flip side, in VNIT Nagpur, the students pursue ECE because they are interested in it.
- However, the placements of IT field are more likely to surpass the number of placements seen in ECE fields. This is because the core hardware companies relatively do not share the same amount of trust with the freshers.
- If you want to obtain a better salary package after graduating from a B.Tech course, then going for IIIT, Allahabad can be a superior option.
- While, if you relevantly want to pursue your career in most of the core ECE companies, then it is suggested that you opt for VNIT, Nagpur.

Which should be preferred, CS at VNIT or EEE at NIT Surathkal?
You are comparing two different branches; Computer (CSE) and Electrical (EEE). If you are naturally inclined towards a particular branch, then you should choose it no matter the institute. - NIRF Engineering Ranking 2020 – VNIT Nagpur is ranked 27 while NIT Surathkal is ranked 13.
- Academics – In this regard both are equal. Some professors are good and some are really bad.
- Extra-Curricular Activities – NIT Surathkal is way better than VNIT Nagpur. You will always find some activity happening on the campus. VNIT Nagpur does not have any such activities being conducted regularly.
- Campus location – VNIT Nagpur is actually better than NIT Surathkal. Although the Surathkal beach which is right beside the college looks good in photos, the same cannot be said in person. The VNIT Nagpur campus on the other hand is clean and green.
- Workshops – At VNIT Nagpur most of the workshops organized by the clubs are paid while at NIT Surathkal most of them were free and open to all.

- VNIT is best in terms of campus life. There are ample hostel facilities for the students.
- Students can interact and socialize with people not only from Maharashtra but from all over India.
- There are almost eight batches for the department with 60-90 students.
Student Activities- VNIT excels in expectations than COEP & VJTI with myriad festivals, clubs, and extra-curricular.
Research after Bachelors’- Lots of VNIT students get themselves into research work after their graduation. However, there is no available information for VJTI and COEP.
Considering all the aspects listed above, VNIT seems a better choice for mechanical engineering than COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai.
