How good is IIT Roorkee for an MTech in VLSI?
VLSI is an excellent branch for those opting for Master's in IIT Roorkee. Apart from CSE, VLSI is the only branch offering high packages to its MTech students.
Most students are offered internships at Intel which are most likely to get converted to PPO under excellent performance. Some of the companies that offer the highest packages are Intel (23 LPA), Qualcomm (25 LPA), Texas Instrument, Samsung Semiconductor, etc.
Most MTech Electrical students tend to go for VLSI because of the huge packages. VLSI jobs have excellent job locations such as Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, etc
Thus, VLSI has a great scope not just in IIT Roorkee but other newer and older IITs too.
How is the placement of IIT Roorkee VLSI compared to IITG VLSI?
It’s difficult to compare IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati as both are institutes with excellent infrastructure and educational opportunities. As far as VLSI placements are concerned, both have almost the same companies visiting for placements with similar packages. The only advantage Guwahati has over Roorkee is airport connectivity. However, Roorkee too has a winning element which is its larger alumni base in comparison to Guwahati.
Most semiconductor companies like Qualcomm, INTEL, Samsung, TI, NVDIA, NXP, and ON Semiconductor visit both institutes with similar job profiles. However, Micron Semiconductor visits only IIT Madras, IISc, and IIT Bombay.

NIT Surat.
You will have plenty of time to prepare here. You can take admission and prepare for whatever you want at the NITs listed above. There aren't many subjects to choose from. Even keeping 75% attendance is not a problem. So go ahead and do it.
What is the current scenario of placements for VLSI in IIT Roorkee and IIT Hyderabad?
For VLSI, IIT Roorkee and IIT Hyderabad both offer good placement packages. Intel, Qualcomm, Semiconductor, NVIDIA, Samsung Semiconductor are the major recruiters for VLSI at IIT Roorkee. As per the IIT Roorkee VLSI placement of the last few years, the salary packages range between INR 7-20 LPA.
The placement rate for the VLSI branch at IIT Hyderabad is around 100%. According to IIT Hyderabad placement 2019, the median CTC for the VLSI branch was INR 12.50 LPA.
How is VLSI in IIT Bhubaneswar?
VLSI in IIT Bhubaneswar is good both in academics and in placements. The teaching standard is very good as most of the faculties are Ph.D. holders. The placement statistics of the university have been excellent so far and it's actually increasing each year. In 2019, 68% of the M.Tech batch have been placed with core and other sectors. The highest number of job offers received from core companies. A total of 89 companies visited the campus during the placement drive. The average salary offered in 2019 was 11.44 Lakh per annum, whereas the highest domestic CTC went up to as much as 39 Lakhs per annum.
