The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It is an entrance exam for admission to the PG and Fellow Programs in Management courses. This will be valid for several management institutes all over India including the IIMs.

Eligibility

  • The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results are also able to apply.
  • These candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if they submit a certificate from the Principal / Registrar of their University stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Candidates should keep in mind that the minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure shortlisting by IIMs.
  • Candidates must maintain a valid and unique email account and a phone number throughout the selection process.

Reservation:

  • Scheduled Caste (SC) - 15.00%
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 7.50%
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates belonging to the “non-creamy” layer - 27.00%
  • Differently Abled (DA) - 3.00%

Exam Pattern

CAT is a computer based test which consists of 100 objective type questions.

There are 3 sections of the test:

  • Quantitative Ability (QA)
  • Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC).
  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR).

Your CAT rank will determine your admission in certain colleges. They also consider the candidates overall academic performance, and work experience, if they have any. These are some of the basic things you should know about the CAT entrance examination.
