Do you need coaching for GMAT or one can excel it with self study for admission in India (ISB Hyderabad and other top colleges)?

Sreyoshi Dasgupta Posted On : February 8th, 2023

I do agree that coaching makes the preparation journey a whole lot easier and smooth. It's a necessity in case you come from a non-Engineering or non-Mathematics background. Moreover the GMAT exam is all about the strategic approach at which the coaching institutes excel at. Their easy yet effective teaching methodology saves your time and reduces your stress considerably.

One of my friends with a non-engineering/non-mathematics background got offers from 3 International B Schools. However he was prepared for GMAT only after his office hours and yet got the offers. Still he claims that the stress and time invested would have been considerably less had he joined a coaching Institute.

Since you are targeting the top B Schools let me tell you that GMAT is just a stepping stone. Your application is a much more impactful criteria as it comprises your career and MBA essays.

Whatever route you choose, remember persistence is the only way you will get through.

Is the TNEA (Anna University, Tamil Nadu) paper easy to crack?

SK
Saro Karuppiah Posted On : December 16th, 2022
Studied at Sri Sakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology

The simple answer to this question is yes, it is indeed quite easy to crack TNEA. This is because I know a friend who had not studied at all and started preparing just before the exam. He did not even understand the difficult concepts and yet managed to score 197.5/200. He shared what steps he took to crack the exam

  • He studied exactly according to Blueprint

  • He learned the previously asked questions

  • He skipped all the difficult topics and focussed on mastering the simple ones instead

  • He learn the key points well as marks are allotted for key points mainly

  • All the one-word answers usually come from the back of the chapter so he studied them well.

  • Since there are no practical tests you get almost full marks in practicals at Anna University

So we can say cracking the exam is not that difficult but understanding the concepts is.

What is the key to score 98+ plus percentile in the CAT? If I can get IIM Calcutta, how am I going to arrange the fees of 30 lakhs?

GS
Gurmukh Singh Posted On : December 15th, 2022
MBA in Marketing, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2020)

There is no specific way to score 98+ percentile. The only key is to find your weak areas and work on them. Yet I have compiled a list of tips that might help you in your journey of preparing for CAT.

  • Prior to preparing for the exam, give one or two mock tests to identify your weak and strong areas. This will help you focus more on the areas you are weak.

  • Don’t set unrealistic goals like 98 or 99. Set a goal that you are confident you can achieve else you will end up getting demotivated and disappointed.

  • Don’t join coaching classes or turn to CAT experts unless you find it almost impossible to understand the concepts on your own. This is because classes will consume a lot of time and you might not get time to practice the concepts you have learned.

  • Gather the best study material and self-study.

All these tips will not guarantee a 98+ CAT score but they will surely improve your score to a great extent.

PS
Pallavi Singh Posted On : November 21st, 2022
BA English(Hons) from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2015)

One of my brother's friends cracked BHU UET for B.Sc. in Biology. He scored 280. He had studied for AIPMT. This helped him a lot as this course is very much like that of BHU UET BSc in Biology.

The level of questions is not very difficult and consists of basic facts. Some require practical knowledge and skills as well. Mainly, your concepts need to be clear. Some simple additional tips are:

  • Check the marking scheme of the exam you are appearing for beforehand

  • Attempt the questions you are confident in first

  • Manage your time while writing the answers

  • Solve previous year's papers and sample papers. This will help you a lot.

The entrance exams at BHU are usually easier than people think. It all depends on how confident and well-prepared you are.

The paper is divided into five sections:

Below are the few things that are required to be done:

  • Examine the previous year's question papers. You can obtain them from the DSE Photocopy Shop.
