Which one is better: UIET Chandigarh's IT or CCET's CSE?

SS
Sumit Sengupta Posted On : June 8th, 2021
B.E. Mech Engg. from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (2019)

UIET and CCET are colleges situated in the same city. This makes them quite similar. The only varying factors are placement and campus life. I have my friends in both of the colleges and they have mentioned a few points which may help you to find a better college out of both.

  • As the location of both the colleges is beautiful, both of the colleges get equal points here.
  • The campus life of UIET is lively and you will get to enjoy university life there. Moreover, I have heard from my friends that students from CCET come to UIET campus to hang out and enjoy the ambiance. The students of CCET have to come to Punjab University for many formalities. Thus, UIET wins a point here as well.
  • UIET and CCET have almost the same average package yet, UIET is seen offering a somewhat higher amount than CCET. The placement record for IT at UIET is unbeatable.

Now, let’s look at the recent placement statistics of CCET and UIET.

Parameters UIET CCET
Average CTC 6.45 LPA 4.07 LPA
Highest CTC 31 LPA 7 LPA

Go through these factors and choose the college according to your requirements and expectations.

Which is better for the future: PEC civil or UIET Chandigarh CS?

SD
Sneha Diwan Posted On : May 5th, 2021
B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (2020)

The choice must be done purely based on your interest. If you are not that interested in coding and if you take a lot of time to understand the core language, there is no point in opting CS even if it's in high demand. Once you enjoy what you are learning you will succeed in your job position. Otherwise, there is no point in being hung up in a course which you don't enjoy and for four years or even for the rest of your life.

Quick stats 2021:

Particulars

PEC (Civil)

UIET Chandigarh (CS)

Entrance exam

JEE Main

JEE Main

Cut-off

13882-27254

945 - 46660

Total fees

6.39 lakh

82,197 (1st year)

Placement rate

80%

85%

Highest CTC offered

45 LPA

30 LPA

Average CTC offered

6-7 LPA

7 LPA

If you don't have a specific preference and you are okay with either CS or civil, then clearly assess college reputation, placement stats, and other opportunities in the respective fields which are briefed out below.

  • Both PEC Chandigarh and UIET offer 24/7 high-speed internet facilities at both academic blocks and hostels. Academic blocks are fully air-conditioned.
  • Labs are fully equipped with hi-tech equipment. Libraries are up-to-date with new books of international standards.
  • Food at hostels is pretty good and you can even opt for off-campus housing facilities. Both of these universities give priority to sports.
  • Both of them organize certain tech fests out of which 'PECfest' of PEC and 'Avishkar' of UIET are quite popular.

As a branch CSE is on top when compared to Civil. But when you compare PEC and UIET, PEC has an upper hand. Set your priorities straight and opt for the best college for you.

How is it possible that Chandigarh University students are getting higher or equal packages to PEC or UIET despite having such a low cut-off when compared to PEC?

AS
Abhay Sukla Posted On : May 5th, 2021
PEC Chandigarh

The package acquisition is not a college deed in the case of Chandigarh University. There are many factors that you need to consider whenever you want to compare placements in colleges.

UIET/PEC:

  • Both these are government colleges. UIET, being a new one is still rising and working. It has strict admission rules and academic procedures that follow AICTE’s rules.
  • It has an average of 100-120 students in every branch. The number of students is a bit lower in branches like Meta or BioT. So, you will see around 600 students in a batch of 20xx.
  • There’s no way anyone can get admission without clearing the counseling. There are no management seats and hence no pay to study. We should also note that UIET has no Home Quota.
  • This makes the admission more open to deserving candidates. Almost 80% of the present batch doesn’t belong to Chandigarh or places around.

CU or any other similar private college:

  • It might sound lucrative but the reality is that they don’t have any seat matrix. You can even check on a verified website, ask students and do your own research.
  • You will find that CU gives admission to N number of students where N is the number of students who can afford it.
  • The year 2018-19 saw 2000 Engineering students getting admission but the batch of 2020 had 2600 students in CSE with just 60 students in Electrical.

Placements:

  • UIET/ PEC: There are almost 70-90% placements in different branches. These numbers are now going down very drastically not because of the companies which offer placements, but because many students don’t want placements. UIET has funded more than 8 startups out of the college in the past 4 years. PEC also has a significantly greater number of placements. 20+ elite companies and other 50+ local startups visit both these colleges, along with few mass recruiters.
  • CU: Tough they claim huge campus placements, which is true, they have never displayed or claimed the people placed or even their exact placement statistics. CU holds 3-4 pool placements where anyone, even the ones outside the campus, can come for placements and if they get placed, they are said to be placed from CU. Moreover, the genuine placements are divided among engineering and MBA students. UIET doesn’t have MBA. CU hasn’t shared the average placement records either. They would probably be very low, seeing their records, maybe around 2-3L, but definitely not more than that.

Now that you know all the facts, you must also know that a college hardly matters. What matters the most is what you wish to make of yourself. You can get a 20-40L package from CU/UIET/PEC if you want to work for it. You can even become an entrepreneur.

BE from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (2018)

It all depends on your long-term plans and interest in the subject. If you are interested in a particular branch, then definitely you can pursue it. The college will only be with you for 4 years, but the knowledge you get will be with you for the rest of your life.

The following table gives a brief overview of the institutes:

Categories

Production Engineering at PEC

Metallurgy at PEC

CSE at UIET

Course Fee

6.39 lakh

6.39 lakh

82,197 (1st year)

Highest CTC

14-16 LPA

17.75 LPA

30 LPA

Average CTC

5-6 LPA

7.5 LPA

7-8 LPA

f you plan to choose and pursue a career in civil service or other competitive tests, then you can go for metallurgy or production in PEC. Also If you want to pursue a career in computer science, you can enroll in CSE at UIET without giving it a second thought.

Harpreet Saini Posted On : April 12th, 2022
BE Computer Science, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (2020)

For IT, AIT Pune is the better option. It offers better placement opportunities. As per the recent placement highlights, AIT Pune highest package is INR 39 LPA. The average CTC stays around INR 7 LPA.

Being located in Pune, it also has a locational advantage. It’s easier to get internships and job opportunities.

Amit Mishra Posted On : July 3rd, 2021
B.E. from Panjab University, Chandigarh (2019)

I have a few friends from IIIT Una, so I think I can give you some insights about the institute.

IIIT Una a newly established institute and is monitored by NIT Hamirpur. Both share the same campus, classes, hostels, etc. But they have separate placements.

Based on what I heard from my friend I will say it is not wise to choose such a new institute. But the decision is yours. Here are some parameters based on which you can judge the institute.

  • Class schedule
  • Library
  • WiFi facility
  • Peer group
  • Funds allotted for various competitions
  • College reputation

Here is a brief outline of the two institutes.

Average CTC

4.5 LPA

6.45 LPA

Should I take IT in UIET Chandigarh or ECE in NIT UK?

RB
Rani Bharadwaj Posted On : July 6th, 2021
Studied at NIT Trichy (2019)

Assuming that you opted for IT in UIET Chandigarh, let us move fast forward to three years and look at how your career might shape out:

  • You can easily get placed in companies like Deloitte, ZS, or any other consultancy firm with salary packages of around INR 6 to 7 LPA if your communication skills are good.
  • If your communication skills are not good enough, you can expect to be placed in IT companies or any start-ups based in Chandigarh city itself. You will be offered salary packages of around INR 3 to 4 LPA.
  • However, since big IT companies like Paytm, Amazon, Flipkart, etc., do not visit the campus during the placement drives, there are fewer chances of you getting placed in a good IT company.
  • Now, assuming that you opt for ECE at NIT UK, you will probably have to sit for the same IT companies and accept the offers.
  • This is because there are very few ECE core sector jobs in India and it is pretty difficult to find one.

Wipro, ZS Associates, TCS, IBM, etc.

Infosys, Bosch, Adobe, Accolite, etc.

I will suggest you opt for ECE at NIT UK solely because of the NIT tag that you will be getting. Being a NITian, myself I can say that it will be of benefit to you in finding a job or even if you want to go for higher studies like MBA or MS.

Are there joint placements for UIET Chandigarh and UIET Hoshiarpur?

KS
Kaustav Sen Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Computer science engineer from UIET, Hoshiarpur (2021)

Some of my friends attended UIET Chandigarh and UIET Hoshirpur, so I have some information regarding the placement at these institutes.

As both the colleges UIET Chandigarh and UIET Hoshiarpur are part of Punjab university, the students visit the Punjab University for placements. Companies do visits there. Sometimes students of UIET Hoshiarpur have to visit UIET Chandigarh for placements. The students of both colleges are given different slots.

But both the colleges have their own placement cells. The placement depends on these placement cells. The companies like Infosys and Sufi visit both colleges. In such cases, the placements take place on the same date and at the same time.

Hope this clears your doubts.

KS
Karandeep Sinha Posted On : August 4th, 2022

NIT Jalandhar is better than UIET Chandigarh. It is an institute of national importance and offers better academics and placements. Major recruiters such as Amazon, Flipkart, Oracle, etc. recruit students through NIT Jalandhar placements. In 2022, the highest CTC offered was INR 44 LPA.

But if you are getting your preferred branch at UIET, choose it. You will get decent career opportunities from both institutes.
