• Placement in BITS Hyderabad is much better than IIIT Guwahati. Being in Hyderabad, the institute has a lot of location advantages which further aids in placement. Sometimes, the placements in BITS Hyderabad are even compared to that of IITs.

Here is a brief overview of the recent placement statistics at both institutes.

• The fee of BITS Hyderabad is higher than that of IIIT Guwahati, which is a point students need to consider before applying for the institute.
• IIIT Guwahati is a much newer institute and is in its growing phase at present. So, there is no guarantee of placement in the institute.

Although the placement of a student mostly depends on the student’s potential and hard work, the institute definitely plays a role in it. And, considering the above points, electrical and electronics engineering at BITS Hyderabad is definitely a better choice.

CSE/ IT is a preferred branch but the colleges offering these streams need to be compared on the basis of the following parameters Fees, Seats, Placements, Number of companies visiting the campus, and Cut-off.

Course Fees:

• NIT Surathkal has a fee range of Rs. 4.94 Lakh for computer science/ information technology

• NIT Trichy provides the course at Rs. 5.24 Lakh.

• DTU provides both courses within a primary range of Rs. 7.81 Lakh.

• BITS Hyderabad provides a computer science course at Rs. 15.66 Lakh

• IIIT Allahabad has a fee range of Rs. 15.66 Lakh.

Eligibility & Cut Off scores:

The eligibility for CS/IT at all the institutes is set as 10+2 with a minimum of 60% and JEE Mains score except for BITS Hyderabad which accepts BITSAT scores for admission. The cut-off score varies accordingly.

Placements:

• NIT Surathkal offers 100% placements with a record of an entire batch of 98 students. Primary recruiters are Capgemini, Genpact, Samsung R&D, Wipro Ltd., and CitiBank Ltd.

• NIT Trichy offers 95% placements in the sector of technology and operations. The top recruiters are HCL, Genpact, Wipro, Zoho, and Tech Mahindra.

• DTU offered 433 job offers in core engineering and technology firms focusing around 131 IT firms. 158 job offers were made along-with 122 students placed successfully.

• For BITS Hyderabad 120 companies participated from the IT sector, the majority of them were leading players like Adobe, Google, Microsoft, and Linkedin.

The other factor that is to be concerned is definitely the ranking and reputation of colleges in the marketspace. Both the NIT’s are exemplary performers in the field of engineering. IIIT focuses primarily on information technology. BITS in comparison to all is a private institute that can be a little behind in the race compared to major government institutions.

Presidency University, Kolkata is a better to place to study economics than BITS, Goa, or Hyderabad. Presidency University, Kolkata is well known for its economics department. It also has an excellent subject record.

In the national ranking too Presidency University comes at the top. One of my cousins studies at Presidency University, Kolkata. And he vouches for the Economics degree provided by the institute.

Taking into consideration various factors like fees, faculty, it is safe to say Pracidency University is the better alternative.

But if you are looking for placement after graduation, then joining Presdancyi will not be a good idea. Although their Economics dept. Is well-renowned, they don’t offer placements after graduation. You will have better placement opportunities at BITS Goa.

BITS is the better choice among all as CSE has more scope than ECE. And NIT Surathkal is an old institute with a better placement record than IIT Bhubaneswar. 

Since BITS Hyderabad is the newest among all other campuses and it certainly is a little behind in terms of faculty, infrastructure, etc. But when compared on a national level it is on par with any other institute. It provides the students with a prime location to look for internships and also provides an edge to them if they are opting for off-campus placements. Although the institute provides students with decent opportunities for on-campus placements also. Around 200 companies visit the campus each year and around 94% of the student secured a job through campus placements with an average package of around 5-6 lakhs per annum and the highest package offered was as high as 14 lakhs per annum.

NIT Surathkal is among the top NITs of this country. The placements of students of this branch are also good although NIT Trichy and Warangal have better placement records. The average placement package offered at this NIT is around 14.15 LPA and 100% placement was observed for B.Tech batches in last year’s placement drive.

ECE is one of the new branches that started at IIT Bhubaneswar starting from 2016. Hence the first batch of students will graduate in 2020. In 2019, the average CTC offered in this IIT was 11.44 LPA. Many core companies, software companies, PSU’s, etc. hire electrical engineers from IIT Bhubaneswar hence one can assume the same trend to be followed for electronics and communication engineering also but the result is yet to be seen.

BITS Hyderabad, a private renowned technical and science institutes of higher learning in India, after the IITs and NITs. One of the 4 campuses of the BITS Pilani university, it offers BE and ME courses for CSE.

IIT Tirupati is an autonomous engineering and technology education institute and it was ranked 25 for Engineering by JEE cutoff 2019. Admission to the B. Tech CSE program is through the Joint entrance exam (IIT-JEE-Advanced).

Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) at the present ranked 58th amongst top engineering colleges in India by NIRF rankings 2019 and offers BTech and MTech courses for CSE.

Placements:

BITS Hyderabad:

• The Institute possesses a 100% placement record with 375 companies visiting the campus in the previous year. Over 400 students got placed successfully.

• Top companies that visited the campus were TCS, Dell, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.

IIT Tirupati:

• As of the 2020 stats, 70 out of the 91 registered students are placed in reputed companies with an average package of 9.18 LPA.

• Top recruiters were AECOM, Afcons, Ashok Leyland, Cushman and Wakefield, JSW, Genpact, TCS, etc.

SVNIT, Surat:

• Some of the highest recruiters are HSBC, Microsoft, Bharat Petroleum, Vedanta, Tata, Samsung, JP Morgan, Kohler, Saint-Gobain, Bajaj, etc.

• As of the 2019 stats, out of 739 students, 503 students got successfully placed with a median salary of 6,67,000 INR.

BITS Hyderabad, which is affiliated under BITS Pilani, ranked 30th by NIRF amongst top engineering colleges in India, is very well renowned for computer science. While IIT Tirupati and IIT Palakkad were recently established and haven't been ranked yet by NIRF. On the other hand IIT Dhanbad, previously known as ISM is ranked 15th according to NIRF for engineering.

• IIT Tirupati and Palakkad- Both these campuses are under construction as of now and students have to stay in a transit campus. Hence, all facilities cannot be availed yet.
• IIT Dhanbad- One of the oldest and largest colleges in the country. Has a huge library with over 1 lac books physically and many more digitally.
• BITS- It is spread over a lush 200 acre space. 3 Huge Fests are organised every year which see a footfall of around 3,000. Various events and competitions are also organised round the year which help in holistic development.

Placement

The first batch of both IIT Palakkad and Tirupati graduated in 2019, hence detailed placement data is not available. BITS Hyederabad has around 95% placement rate for CS Branch while it is around 90% for IIT Dhanbad.

Computer Science is one of the most sought after specializations in the current industry. Though IIT Dhanbad is one of the oldest institutes in the country, it is more so renowned for Mining and Mineral engineering. BITS despite being a private college is widely preferred due to the opportunities presented and course structure.
