Civil and CSE are two distinctive courses so it’s difficult to determine which college is better.

The campus of IIT Bhubaneswar is well developed, but there are still constructions going on. The academic section is with highly equipped labs, projector classrooms, Wi-Fi facilities, etc. Placements in college are often good. The average salary packages offered is around 11.4 LPA. In 2019, 89% of placement was recorded from Civil Engineering. The teachers are very qualified, skillful, and knowledgeable.

One plus point of BITS Hyderabad is that Hyderabad is the IT hub and it might not directly influence placements, but they get a lot of exposure to the IT companies around. Brands like Google and Amazon are building the biggest office departments in India at Hyderabad, which is tremendous news for the campus. Also, a lot of companies visit the Hyderabad campus. In BITS you get a chance to study in an established college with established curriculum and top-class faculty in CSE.

The quality of research that’s being carried out there in every field of engineering is of top-notch. BITS Hyderabad has better infrastructure than many good IIT’s. Almost every student gets a placement with average salary package of 11 LPA. BITS has a higher industry recognition than newer IITs, which means the probability of getting recruited as a manager in the industry from the latter university is better than from the former engineering university.

If you are comparing only the institutes then with IIT Bhubaneswar, you will get an IIT tag that offers certain advantages. As for which college to choose, should depend on your preference of course.

BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus is a private academic institution that has been ranked at 18 by QS India rankings in 2019. It offers over 30 courses across 5 streams of study. IIT Hyderabad on the other hand is an institute of national importance and has been ranked at 8 for Engineering by JEE Cutoff in 2020.

Both the institutions are highly esteemed but vary in many ways. Let us take a look at some important features based on which students can make a choice:

BITS Hyderabad:

• The infrastructure is highly modern offering the best and most updated facilities be it in terms of the hostel and mess or the library and practical labs. 
• It also has multiple restaurants, bakeries, juice corners, medical facilities, beauty parlor, stationery stores, and much more.

IIT Hyderabad:

• The campus is comparatively smaller but still offers a great student experience in terms of its updated technology, practical labs, hostels, smart classrooms, seminar halls, and sports complex.

Placements:

BITS Hyderabad

• The institute witnessed a total of 90% placement rate in the recent placement drive.
• The highest package offered to the students was 14 LPA while the average salary was 5 LPA.
• The most recruited branch was CSE with top recruiters like Microsoft, Infosys, Sapient.

IIT Hyderabad

• A total of 80% placements were recorded by the institute.
• The students were offered the highest package of 53.79 LPA whereas the average salary was 16.74 LPA.
• The most recruited branch was IT with recruiters like Goldman Sachs, Land Rover, Bajaj.

BITS Hyderabad, which is affiliated under BITS Pilani, ranked 30th by NIRF amongst top engineering colleges in India, is very well renowned for computer science. While IIT Tirupati was recently established and hasn’t been ranked yet by NIRF.

• IIT Tirupati- The permanent campus, proposed to be spread across 530 acres, is under construction as of now and students have to stay in a transit campus.

Placement

BITS Hyderabad

It has an average placement rate of 94% for computer science. Top recruiters are Aditya Birla Group, Microsoft, Adobe, BeeHyv, Amazon, etc. Other notable features are:

• Highest CTC offered is 40 LPA
• Around 25% students receive PPOs from companies like Google, Dell, Spikewell, Microsoft in the pre-final year

IIT Tirupati

It is relatively new, hence much detailed placement data is not yet available. Major recruiters are Envestnet Yodlee, Bosch, TCS, Honeywell, etc.

• The average package was 9.6 LPA
• Highest CTC offered was 25 LPA

Both BITS and IITs have a brand value but Tirupati being a new institute, is yet to make its mark. Faculties at both the colleges are highly qualified. Computer science is the most sought-after skill in the present industry and hence if one works hard, he/she can excel.

Choosing a course should be based on your interest. If you are interested in a core profile in a product company after you graduate, ECE will give you the skill and knowledge to cater to the role. According to their placement highlights 2019, IIT Bhubaneswar has hosted about 89 companies and offered an average package of 11.44 lakh per annum.

BITS Hyderabad is one of the oldest colleges in terms of infrastructure and placements. The exposure and scope post taking a CSE course in this college gives you a wide range of options regarding a job. With the ever-booming IT industry, a CSE graduate will have an added advantage over others. You can also opt for a few electronics subjects if interested in the ECE course.

If you are interested in the field of research in the areas of Condensed Matter Physics and High Energy Physics, Engineering Physics in IIT Hyderabad will turn out to be a great option for you. The college hosts a variety of subject matter under the B.Tech course of Engineering Physics Department.

If we talk about statistics and past records, IIT Bhubaneshwar is a better choice.

IIT’s have the best faculties in the country. The level of research work and the flexibility IITs provide is exceptional. The companies that come for placement purposes are also distinguished from other colleges. The infrastructure at IIT Bhubaneshwar is developed and the campus is very well sustained for overall development.

Since Electrical Engineering has been from the start of IIT BBS, placements are great there. The placements for the early years were not that great but for the last 2 years, the situation is incrementing. In 2019 the placement rate for EE at IIT Bhubaneswar was 86%. The highest package went around 39 LPA by Adobe.

Placements at BITs Hyderabad have been relatively lower with median CTC around 5 LPA and the highest CTC around 14 LPA. Around 94% of the students got placed from the campus last year.

Both the brands are prominent ones, but the level of exposure and opportunities that you will get at IIT Bhubaneshwar may overpower that of BITS Hyderabad.

Both the colleges are ultimate in providing real-time education to the students. IIITDM Jabalpur is placed in #81 position while the BITS Hyderabad is #6 among the top engineering institutions. IIITDM Jabalpur

• The college enrolls students based on the JEE Main with a total minimum score of 75% in their intermediate.
• The cut-off of the college for the mechanical branch is 20,835 to 33,875.
• The fee at the college is 1.38 Lakhs. However, one can apply for scholarships in the 2nd year if they have scored well in academics.
• The total seats in the mechanical branch are 109. Out of which, 16 seats are for only females.

BITS Hyderabad

• The college enrolls students based on the performance in the BITSAT exam. Also, it requires 10+2 scores with a minimum of 75%.
• The fee at the college is 4.23 Lakhs.
• Last year, the cut off for admission in Mechanical engineering was 275.

Placements:

IIITDM Jabalpur

• The highest salary of the campus is 23 LPA. Whereas the average salary of the students is 9.9 LPA.
• The company visiting the campus are BMW, Renault Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, DRDO, BrahMos Aerospace, Capgemini, Cognizant, etc.

BITS Hyderabad

• The campus has a 100% placement rate. Each year over 300 companies visit the campus. Out of which almost 475 students get recruited.
• The highest salary of the college is 14 LPA.
• The companies visiting the campus are ADM Agro, Hyundai, Intel, IBM, Facebook, Infosys, TCS, ICICI, Aurobindo, Flipkart, Research-based companies, Pharma companies, etc.

This is all about the mechanical engineering course in both the colleges. One can choose the best college that suits based on the various aspects mentioned above.

Here we are comparing a public institute with a private one, and therefore there will be areas in which IIT-H will hold a better rating than BITS-H and vice versa. Let’s see how both the colleges perform on various aspects-

NIRF Rankings- As per latest NIRF rankings, IIT Hyderabad has been ranked as the 8th best engineering college in India and the 22nd overall. While BITS Hyderabad has been ranked 30th for engineering and 27th overall.

Course Fee- IIT Hyderabad has comparatively lower fees for its courses than BITS-H, which is one of the benefits of a public institute and a private institute normally charges a high fee for its courses.

Infrastructure- BITS Hyderabad is the newest BITS Pilani campus and therefore provides well-furnished classrooms, modern laboratory equipment, and is a well-equipped one. While IIT Hyderabad also being a relatively newer IIT has good infrastructural facilities, but BITS-H definitely holds a stronger position in this aspect.

Placements-

IIT-H: As per the latest placement data of IIT-H, in 2020 the highest package received was 60.41LPA and the second phase is yet to be completed. IN 2018-19, IIT-H recorded the highest package of 53.80LPA and an average package of 18LPA. Some of the major companies visiting the college are Accenture, Bank Of America, ISRO, Qualcomm, Infosys, Cap Gemini, Amazon, and many more.

BITS-H: As per the 2016-18 data, around 94% of the total students get placed every year. The maximum salary offered has been 14LPA, 3.6LPA being the minimum, and 5LPA being the average. Around 200 companies visit the college every year for recruiting the students. IBM, ICICI, Ola, TCS, Intel, Flipkart, Facebook, KPMG, L&T, Amazon, and many more are some of the top recruiters in the college.

So, both the colleges have advantage over the other in some aspects but both are good and well-recognised institutes of the country. An admission in any of the two would not be a bad investment and you should make your choice as per your suitability and resources.

IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019 and BITS Hyderabad ranks 39th in the same category by NIRF 2019.

IIT Bhubaneswar has a dedicated placement cell, a total of 120 students were placed with the CSE department observing placement percentage of 100%. The undergraduate placement recorded 90% offers. The Electrical Engineering department has seen 86% placement in the year 2019. With an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum for big companies like TATA Steel, TATA Advance System, Thermax, INTEL technology, etc.

BITS Hyderabad has a placement cell to groom students for interviews, etc. The CS department has been offered 16 lakhs per annum by companies like Microsoft, Adobe, etc.

You can opt for CS in BITS Hyderabad than opting for EE at IIT Hyderabad because computer science in BITS Hyderabad will open many scopes and are offered with a better salary package than Electrical Engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar.

Well, before answering this question, the heartiest gratitude to all the candidates who have cracked this toughest engineering entrance in India.

The main thing is that you must decide why do you want to join IIT. Is it only for the IIT tag, or you want to follow your passion?

The tagline of IIT is obviously important, but it works only if you are studious towards your dream. Otherwise, it becomes worthless as well as you will ruin the reputation of these institutes, that IIT.

Another important thing to be considered that if you are outstanding in CSE and gets the chance in IIT Dhanbad, then you will be to do more research, over-viewing the facts, like infrastructure and facilities of both of these institutes. However, BITs is generally better, and one of my friends was there for BITSAT 2017; the institute is really awesome.

Additionally, IIT Dhanbad is the old IITs, but it is still an IIT, and it gives the student a great height regarding their future career perspectives. It is properly funded still now and will be better in next year’s. But you should not expect a better life here than BITs Hyderabad. The main thing that should always be remembered is that good institutes always lead to a confident pathway, but you have to go alone in this pathway to fulfill your passion.

Thus, you must choose your branch first; after that, you can move forward.
