Which college is better for PGDM Finance SIESCOM or N L Dalmia, XIME, Bangalore or NDIM, New Delhi or UBS, Mumbai?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

You can consider XIME Bangalore as your first choice, then SIESCOM and NL Dalmia as your second and third choices, respectively. It is better not to consider NDIM or USB since they are bad at academics and placement support.

XIME has a decent placement package, a good academic history, well-equipped classrooms, a resourceful atmosphere, and experienced scholars.

So, take a wise decision, and all the best for your future.

Which is better for computer engineering, IIT Hyderabad or BITS Hyderabad?

SB
Sachin Beriwal Posted On : May 16th, 2023

It’s highly illogical to measure IIT Hyderabad, the fastest-growing new IIT with a private institute BITS.

  • Only top rankers with JEE Advanced ranks in the range of 500–5500 get into IIT Hyderabad while those who don’t get through JEE Advanced or have ranks of 8000+ easily get good seats in BITS Hyderabad.
  • BITS Hyderabad is BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, not BITS Pilani.
  • The average package of IIT Hyderabad is almost par with that of IIT Delhi and Bombay, while the average package of BITS Hyderabad is much lower.
  • IIT Hyderabad has a Fractal Academic System, under which there is regular testing and grading throughout the year. Also, you can fill your academic palette with the courses of your choice.
  • The courses are industry relevant and updated, unlike older IITs.
  • Owing to the Japan Collaboration, IIT Hyderabad students regularly get internship offers, job offers, and higher study and research opportunities in Japan.
  • IIT Hyderabad frequently collaborates with IIIT Hyderabad for Hackathons, Coding Competitions, and other stuff.
  • IIT Hyderabad is still in its development phase and BITS has a much better campus than IIT Hyderabad.

I feel IIT Hyderabad is the better option for CS in comparison to BITS Hyderabad.

Should I join IIM Shillong? How good is it compared to other older IIMs, especially for finance?

KN
Kedar Nath Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Shillong (2019)

You are asking whether you should take it or not so I will assume that you are planning to take a drop year otherwise. However, preparing and attempting CAT again is not a cakewalk. It requires a lot of determination and motivation and still does not guarantee that you will get a call from an old IIM.

IIM Shillong is rather a good choice for finance. You can contact some of its alumni to get more information on the same. Since your profile is good, Indore is also a good option for you.

But if you are adamant about joining the old IIMs, then focus on one single goal. Getting maximum percentile in CAT. Start preparing as soon as you decide to drop the year. Anything above 99.7 will guarantee you a call from one of the older IIMs. I have seen many people attempt CAT 3-4 times just to get into their choice of IIMs.

It all comes down to your determination. Like I said, dropping a year requires a lot of determination, so choose this path wisely. Else consider the various other options you have.

If IIM KI is 8/10 (ABC being 10/10) where does IIM Shillong and IIM Trichy stand?

SC
Sarat Chandra Posted On : January 13th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

Here are my ratings for the IIMs

  • IIM Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta: 10
  • IIM Lucknow: 9
  • IIM Kozhikode and Indore: 7.9
  • Other second-generation IIMs: 7.6
  • New third generation IIMs: 6.8

The above rankings have been done on the basis of age, placements, and research. I don’t think these factors are enough to rank IIMs.

Another major parameter of comparison is the duration of the establishment.

  • First generation: (est before 1984) Ahmedabad Bangalore Calcutta Lucknow
  • Second generation: (est. before 2000) Indore and Kozhikode
  • Third generation:  (est. around 2009) - Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Trichy, Udaipur, Kashipur, Shillong
  • Fourth Generation: New IIMs (after 2014) - 7 IIMs

Most of the FT rankings and online rankings are based on this parameter. In reality, every IIM has top-notch faculty, infrastructure and placements m. Yet the new IIMs will take some time to reach the top.

Which college will be better for me, NIT Trichy (production engineering) or NIT Jalandhar (CS, IT)?

LK
Lakshay Kaushik Posted On : December 8th, 2022
B tech from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2017)

Comparing the two NITs we know NIT Trichy has a better ranking than NIT Jalandhar. It also holds a stronger brand name. Unless you are extremely interested in Software, I suggest Production Engineering is a better choice. Some points to prove my opinion are:

  • NIT Trichy ranks in the top 15 engineering institutes in the country from a placement perspective.

  • More companies visit for campus placements like Amazon, Microsoft, Flipkart, and Cisco.

  • NIT Trichy has an upper hand in faculty, infrastructure, competitive environment, peers, resources, curriculum, labs, and alumni network.

  • Many finances, banking, consulting, etc. based roles are offered at NIT Trichy and these opportunities are considerably low at mid-level NITs such as NIT Jalandhar.

  • Post Graduation, if you wish to switch sectors then the brand name of NIT Trichy will help you along the way.

So don't lose a much stronger brand simply because of a simple stream issue. Years down the line, your credibility will be determined by the brand of NIT Trichy solely and not by production engineering at NIT Trichy.

Which is better, IIM Bodh Gaya or SIBM Bangalore?

PS
Paridhi Sharma Posted On : February 15th, 2023
Bcom Hons at University of Delhi (2018–present)

The brand of IIM is well-respected and will continue to hold weight in the future. IIM Bodhgaya is a relatively new institute and has the potential to grow further in the coming years. While SIBM Bangalore may have slightly better placement opportunities, graduating from IIM Bodhgaya will be a great achievement and you will be proud to say that you have studied at an IIM.

It is important to note that both institutions have a strong culture of study and competition among students. However, if you have the determination and belief that you can score higher on the CAT exam and have strong academics, it may be worth considering giving it another shot for the chance to attend a better institute. It's important to weigh all the options and consider the long-term benefits before making a decision. Ultimately, the choice is yours and it's important to choose the institution that aligns with your career goals and aspirations.

Should I choose chemical engineering at BITS Goa or a computer at PES University?

AM
Aisha Mathur Posted On : September 30th, 2020
B.Tech Civil Engineering & Management Studies, PES University (2018)

It depends on how passionate you are in either of the fields. If your interest lies in Chemical engineering, you cannot go wrong with BITS Goa. Being ranked 30th for engineering in India by NIRF 2020. BITS offers a BE degree in Chemical engineering and has a faculty-student ratio of 1:15 with highly qualified and experienced professors.

If you are inclined towards Computer science, PES University must be your priority. Ranked 93 for engineering by NIRF in 2020, PES offers a B.Tech degree in CSE as its flagship course. It has well-experienced and qualified facilities withholding 76 on-campus teaching staff and several visiting professors from National Institutes.

The tabulation below gives a brief overview of both the Institutes:

Particulars

BITS Goa

PES University

Fees

3,99,475/year

3,30,000/year

Total seats

60 (Chemical engineering)

660 (CSE)

Highest package

15 LPA

48 LPA

Placement rate

53% (Chemical engineering)

99.14% (CSE)

Admission:

BITS Pilani Goa:

  • BITS Goa conducts an entrance exam namely BITSAT for admission in BE.
  • For admission in the Chemical engineering branch, 254 was the closing score in BITSAT 2019.
  • The branch offers only 60 seats, thus making the process highly competitive.

PES University:

  • Besides accepting K-CET and JEE main test scores, PES University conducts its own entrance exam- PESSAT for B.tech admission.
  • KCET rank under 450 andwas considered as a cutoff for B.tech CSE admission in the first round previous year.
  • A rank under 600 in PESSAT can also fetch a seat in the CSE branch at PESU.

Placement statistics:

BITS Goa:

  • Overall 160+ companies worldwide participate in the recruitment process every year. Top recruiters include Amazon, IBM, TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Accenture.
  • Placement rate is around 50-60% with 30 students being placed this year with an average CTC of 7.5LPA
  • Core companies visiting the campus are very few which includes Schlumberger, Cairn, Exxonmobil, UOP Honeywell, Shell.
  • Highest CTC offered to date for the CE branch is 15LPA.

PES University:

  • 100+ companies participated in the campus recruitment process in 2020.
  • 11 students were placed from the CSE branch in Microsoft this year, with an average CTC of 39.2 LPA.

Both BITS and PESU are prestigious Institutes in India that offer quality education. The deciding factor here is the field in which you dream to build your career. It is to be mentioned that opportunity is quite less for Chemical engineering students when compared to CSE at BITS or anywhere in India in general. But if you are passionate about the subject you should go for it.
